Well done to all of you who were able to open bank accounts - my thread was specifically about problems opening a bank account when on an Elite visa.
To reply to specific comments, Thailand Elite said that they couldn't help. My comments about the donations is to explain to the bank why I need the account. I'm not moving to Laos because of my banking problems! The regime for expats is a lot less intrusive (based on my own experiences when I lived there in 2012/13)
Elite Visa should open a bank account for you.
It's meant to be one of the benefits you get when you purchase it.

and go to Banking - looks like accounts can be open with Bangkok Bank and Kasikorn.

MORE evidence of prostitution found in Pattaya: Three arrested after raid on Walking Street bar
Image: รอบพัทยา Ok
Police have announced they’ve found more evidence of prostitution in Pattaya - this time on Walking Street, the city’s famous red light district.
On Saturday officers revealed details of a raid carried out on the Windmill GoGo that resulted in three people being arrested.
Police launched an undercover raid after receiving complaints the bar was being used as a front to sell sex to foreigners.
Police used a foreigner to go into the bar on Friday pretending to be a customer.
Image: รอบพัทยา Ok
Once inside the bar, the foreign informant was soon given a price of 4,000 baht to have sex with one of the girls who work there.
He was then told to take the girl to a private room. Once inside, he raised the alarm and the premises were raided by a team of officers who were waiting nearby.
The girl who was offered to the undercover informant was found to be underage. She was just 16 and 6 months old.
During the raid police found accounting books detailing customer transactions and attendance cards for the women who worked there. Condoms were also found.
A man and two women were arrested. INN News withheld their names but described one as being the mamasan. Those arrested face charges relating to human trafficking, prostitution and the procurement of underage women for sex.
The news comes after police last month declared they had found no evidence of prostitution in Walking Street.
A large contingent of police and military men along with staff from the Department of Provincial Administration carried out a large scale inspection of Pattaya red light area.
Later in June, officials raided the Coming Bar on Soi 6 where evidence of prostitution was finally found.
It was discovered that for a price punters could have sex with women who worked there in one of a number of special rooms located above the bar.
The raid on the Coming Bar resulted in the transfer of the acting head of the Pattaya police Pol Col Pongphan Wongmaneethet and four of his deputies.
Pol Col Pongphan was one of the officers who had proudly declared there was no prostitution in Walking Street.

Army chief visits Yala, inspects construction of Betong airport
Army Commander-in-Chief General Apirat Kongsompong on Friday visited Yala and inspected the construction progress of the Betong International Airport, which is aimed at pushing an economic and tourism boom in the deep South.
Apirat was accompanied by First Army Area commander Lieutenant Narongphan Jitkaewthae as they visited Army bases in Thanto and Betong districts of Yala and were received by Fourth Army Area commander Lt-General Pornsak Poolsawat.
Apirat’s entourage visited the 44th Border Patrol Police Taskforce in Thanto and met district officials and community leaders.
Apirat recalled being in charge of the two districts when he was stationed in the Fourth Army Area. He told the local people that he was happy to see Thanto experience a lot of development and sought their cooperation in keeping up its pace.
He said the areas would see further development once the construction of the Betong airport is completed.
The airport was initiated by Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha when he was the Army chief in 1995, said Apirat, adding that when it is completed in 2021, the central government would pour money in to develop Betong as a major tourism hub with many visitors to boost the area’s economy.
Apirat also told officers of the 44th BPP Taskforce to be always on guard although the security condition in the region had much improved. He said once the airport’s construction was completed, the BPP taskforce must step up protection for visiting tourists.
Apirat and his entourage then proceeded to visit the Betong airport, where he recalled Prayut visiting the site in 2005 before making the airport happen 20 years later, when in 2015 he allocated the budget for its construction under the development plan for the five southern border provinces.
Apirat said the new airport would be useful in three dimensions – for economic, security and international ties.
Initially, the airport would have just an 1,800-metre-long runway, but the government has already decided to extend the runway by 300 metres to allow more Airbus and Boeing 737 and 747 planes to land.
Apirat said that the location of Betong airport is more than 100 kilometres away from other airports, it would play a useful role in encouraging tourism to the region. He said the closest airport to the one in
Betong airport is in Penang, Malaysia.
Once the new airport is opened in 2021, it would be able to receive about 1 million passengers a year, or about 300 passengers per hour at rush hour. It would also serve as a trade gate for the region, Apirat added.

‘Confident’ Anutin visits hospital to talk up marijuana products
By The Nation
Minister-designated Anutin Charnvirakul yesterday repeated his stance to push forward his marijuana agenda – an announcement deemed by many to reflect his confidence that he will be given the public health portfolio in the new Cabinet.
The Bhumjaithai Party leader has reiterated the party’s policy to make marijuana a new economic crop, as well as sharing his ideas for commercialising the once-universally-illegal plant.
Anutin was speaking during his visit yesterday to a hospital in Prachin Buri province in Thailand’s eastern region. The visit was aimed at creating a better understanding with its staff about future projects related to marijuana-based products, he said.
Chaophraya Abhaibhubejhr Hospital has been known for its products based on alternative medicines, even producing a number of marijuana-based potions with permission.
Anutin has also been tipped concurrently as a deputy prime minister in an unconfirmed Cabinet list. A royal endorsement to formally recognise the new Cabinet is expected by the middle of this month.

Two women nabbed in vehicle-buying scam
Police announced on Friday that two women were arrested for allegedly talking nearly 100 people into handing over their vehicles and swindling them out of more than Bt30 million.
Immigration Bureau’s acting chief Pol Lt-General Sompong Chingduang identified the suspects as Pawarisa “Pattanan” Nakrod and Chomphunut Pongsathornpipat.
Chanthaburi immigration police officers helped with the arrest of Chomphunut, 32, after learning about the arrest warrant that was issued by Samut Sakhon Provincial Court on June 25.
Pawarisa, meanwhile, was nabbed in Chumphon province.
Sompong said the two women allegedly contacted people advertising the sale of cars they had bought on instalment schemes, offered to take over the payments and then disappeared with the vehicles
without making any payments. The vehicle owners then found themselves without a vehicle and owing loans.
“Investigations suggest that the suspects took orders from an investor based in Kanchanaburi province and that they were paid between Bt3,000 and Bt10,000 per vehicle,” Sompong said.
He added that these stolen vehicles were either sold in Thailand or neighbouring countries, or may also have been disassembled and sold as parts.
Sompong added that Chomphunut and Pawarisa were also wanted for many other alleged offences.

Hua Hin is pretty dead at the moment anyway. There aren't many people here Chinese or otherwise!
Generally I've noticed a bit of increase in Chinese tourists here over the years but by and large not that noticeable.

GENOA, Italy (Reuters) - Six seconds of controlled explosions wiped out the remains of a collapsed bridge in the northern Italian city of Genoa on Friday, paving the way for a new structure to replace the ageing viaduct that gave way last year, killing 43 people.
Explosives tore down two towers of the Morandi bridge as cannons shot water over the 20,000 cubic meters of steel and concrete to prevent huge clouds of dust engulfing the city.
The bridge collapsed on August 14 in heavy rain, sending dozens of vehicles plunging 50 meters to the ground below.
The collapse has made access to Genoa’s busy port more difficult and has also meant a lengthy detour for drivers wanting to head onwards to southern France.
The government of the anti-establishment 5-Star Movement and the right-wing League wants its rapid reconstruction, hoping to signal a departure from the corruption and inefficiency that have often plagued Italian infrastructure projects.
5-Star leader Luigi Di Maio and League chief Matteo Salvini, both deputy prime ministers, attended the demolition, after Infrastructure Minister Danilo Toninelli laid the first stone of the new viaduct earlier this week.
“Today not only the old bridge comes down, but the new one starts coming up,” Salvini said.
The reconstruction was assigned to Italian firms Salini Impregilo and Fincantieri. Designed by the renowned Genoa-born architect Renzo Piano, the new viaduct is planned to be inaugurated by the middle of next year.
It remains unclear whether the government will keep its promise to revoke the concession of toll road operator Autostrade per l’Italia, a unit of infrastructure group Atlantia which was in charge of the bridge’s maintenance.
Rome has accused the operator of serious failings in its upkeep of the bridge. Autostrade has denied wrongdoing, saying regular, state-supervised inspections had indicated the ageing viaduct was safe.
The revocation procedure started a few days after the bridge collapsed, but the coalition parties are now divided.

Immigration police arrest foreigners for a variety of crimes
By Kornkamon Aksorndech
The NationA Chinese man who was wanted in his home country for illegally operating an online gambling den with a sum worth 400 million yuan (or Bt2 billion) has been arrested, Immigration Bureau chief Pol Lt-General Sompong Chingduang said on Friday.
The arrest was one of several recent cases involving foreigners, Sompong said.In the first case, Chinese man Yunyong He had re-entered Thailand on April 27 under a new name of An He. As he tried to renew his visa, which expired on June 25, officials found that An He was the same man as the previously deported Yunyong He.
Yunyong had been prosecuted and jailed for 11 months for filing false information to officials and forging and using the forged documents to apply for a Thai national ID card before he was deported in 2016 and blacklisted from re-entering Thailand.
He re-entered Thailand on April 27 under a new name of An He.
In the second case, 32-year-old Chinese man Zhang Yifei was arrested in Phuket's Muang district on June 11.
Zhang was wanted in his home country for illegally operating a Bt2 billion online gambling den along with 17 previously-arrested compatriots but he managed to flee to Thailand.
In the third case, following a tip-off that foreign migrants had been working as masseurs at a spa for men in Soi Suan Plu 6 in Bangkok's Sathorn district, police rounded up 15 male workers. One was from Myanmar, two from Cambodian, eight from Vietnam, three from Laos and one stateless man. They now face charges of working without permission.
In the fourth case, 38-year-old David Sykora, from the Czech Republic, was arrested on June 24. He is a convicted thief who is wanted in his home country for a theft of goods worth 3,790 Czech koruna (Bt5,200).
In a fifth case, 39-year-old Aki Petri Johannes Vartianen, from Finland, was arrested on June 26, as per a request from the Finnish Police. He was sentenced to two-years and 12 days in prison for possessing and selling illicit drugs to customers while he was working as a body-building trainer there.
Sompong also said at the press conference that the biometric technology at international airports was not yet fully linked and immigration police still had to use other detection methods.
He expected the biometric system and all related records should be effectively applied at checkpoints by August.
