  1. ASEAN NOW and Adblockers

Running any business costs money and needs a revenue stream in order to operate, without this money the business will close.

ASEAN NOW is no exception to this rule and costs money to operate. Our primary revenue stream is from banner revenue, without this we cannot afford to provide you with the service you want. It is no different from a cafe expecting you to pay for a cup of tea, in fact you would not even think about using a service or shop anywhere else without paying, in our case the banner advertisers pay for you - so it's an even better outcome for you!

Anyone that uses an adblocker deprives a business of revenue that they need in order to operate. As such with immediate effect we will be implementing a count down for users with adblocker, meaning they will have to wait 10 seconds before reading the content they want to read.

If you do use an adblocker, we would recommend you turn off your adblocker in order for normal service to be resumed. You may also select ASEAN NOW as an exception to your adblocker.

Help us run a business you can count on, everyday 24 hours a day by allowing us to operate commercially, turn off your adblocker.

Thank you for your understanding on this matter.

  7. What is true health?

If you are the typical person, you might define HEALTH as the absence of pain or sickness.

This is what most people think. But, in fact, the real definition of TRUE HEALTH, as defined by the WHO (World Health Organization), is when all physical, mental, and emotional aspects of a person are working together at full capacity and in complete harmony.

This means that most of us are not in TRUE optimum health. So what can we do to help. Well, studies have shown that good sleep is one of the foundations of good health and significantly affects longevity.

So first start with improving the quantity and quality of your sleep. Several hours of deep sleep are essential to repair cellular damage suffered during your waking hours.

This can be achieved by having a more regular life schedule where you go to sleep at a regular time.

Also, not eating big meals at night and reducing caffeine intake could help, as well as regular low impact exercises like walking and swimming.

Underpinning all of this is having a properly functioning nerve system, since nerves control and coordinate virtually all of your body’s functions. A comfortable and effective way to do this is having your spine biomechanics checked by a Doctor of Chiropractic.

Spinal irritation, which may not be symptomatic, can still affect your body’s function. You see, only about 10% of your nerves deal with symptoms like pain.

The greater portion, about 90%, deal with body FUNCTION, which directly impacts your overall health.

So checking your spine can have great health benefits beyond just getting rid of aches and pains.

  8. Still no news from Interpol members on Yingluck’s location

    n1.jpeg

The more than 190 members of Interpol seemingly still have no information to offer in regard to the whereabouts of former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra, who fled Thailand more than two months ago.

Pol Colonel Krisana Patanacharoen, deputy spokesman of the Royal Thai Police, said on Tuesday that none of the 192 member countries had informed the Bangkok Interpol office of any clues as to the location of the fugitive politician.

However, Thai police are gathering more evidence to send to Interpol in order to get a blue notice issued on her, he said, adding that they are continually coordinating with the international crime agency. The blue notice is used for requesting help to collect information regarding a criminal’s whereabouts or related crime activities.

“If she is located in any country, the Interpol member would notify Thai authorities immediately,” he stressed. It has been more than a month since the Bangkok Interpol office sent the request for a blue notice to the France-based agency.

Thai police requested Interpol’s assistance in late September after Yingluck was sentenced in absentia to five years in jail following her trial for negligence of duty in regard to her administration’s rice-pledging scheme.

The latest news of her whereabouts was disclosed by Thai authorities early last month, when they said that Yingluck had left Dubai for London.

Late last month, all four Thai passports held by Yingluck were revoked by the Foreign Ministry, as a result of which the former premier will no longer be able to travel from one country to another using those documents. Rumours have been circulating that Yingluck plans to seek political asylum in the United Kingdom.

Last week, the UK authorities informed Thailand that if she came to stay in the country, she would need to follow the normal immigration process, but there would not be an issue of political asylum.

Yingluck fled Thailand on August 23 and has been wanted since August 25, when she failed to show up to hear the final ruling in the negligence case against her. She was sentenced in her absence a month later to five years in jail. Yingluck has neither been heard from nor seen since she fled the Kingdom.

  9. Huge crowds gather for free "herbal remedies for cancer"

    CiHZjUdJ5HPNXJ92GP70gYD4hD4C0mKMVu.jpg

    Image: Thairath

There were huge crowds at the home of a self styled "doctor" in Prachinburi at the weekend.

"Dr Saeng" - real name Saengchai Haelerttrakun was handing out the latest batches of capsules for treating cancer.

He is not charging but the health authorities have made him label the "medicine" as a food supplement.

Thousands have descended on the home of "Dr Saeng" over the last nine years.

His herbal remedies have even encouraged criminals to fabricate his products and sell them to the gullible.

On Sunday hundreds of hopefuls came from Chiang Mai to his home in Muang district of Prachinburi - such is the demand that each time he hands out his wares a different area of Thailand is chosen to avoid a mad scramble.

But the health authorities are quick to point out that the capsules should not be considered a cure for cancer.

Testing has shown them not to contain steroids so they are considered OK for distribution.

But the department of public health has said they should be considered as a food supplement designed to improve general health for cancer sufferers.

While the public are advised to continue with more recognized treatment of cancer and its symptoms.

  10. Gang faking vehicle registration documents and plates busted in Bangkok

    dn1.png

    Image: Daily News

Police announced the arrest of two men in Bangkok faking vehicle registration documents and plates.

Arrested were 34 year old Chanon Phongpin and Suphat Ratnodom, 43, Daily News reported.

Police concerned with vehicular crime said yesterday at metropolitan HQ that the men were running a Facebook page advertising fake documents for registering cars and motorbikes that had been purchased illegally.

A sting had been set up that trapped the pair. Suphat was responsible for the finances and Chanon for taking orders and mailing the documents through the post.

There were plenty of takers - the bankbooks showed dealings between one and two million in value while the police put the total turnover of the gang in excess of 10 million baht.

Investigations continue to round up other members of the gang.

  11. Video: Monks behaving badly - abbot's assistant kicks fellow monk in head as he counts Loy Krathong "takings"

    tr1.jpg

    Image: Thairath

A video posted on Facebook was yet another example of the monkhood behaving like hooligans.

An assistant to an abbot at a Nonthaburi temple is upset with an underling as he counts money taken during Friday's Loy Krathong festival.

But the altercation - caught at a distance on CCTV - soon turns very nasty as the bigger monk kicks out at the other catching him around the neck, Thai Rath reported.

The monk goes sprawling to the floor and appears momentarily unconscious.

But after a few moments he recovers to continue the counting as the assistant abbot continues ranting.

A post in the comments section on a Facebook page said the incident happened in Ban Mai sub-district of Pak Kret in the area to the north of Bangkok.

The post claimed that the aggressive monk was into gambling on the underground lottery and cock fighting.

It claimed he had assaulted monks before and the clergy at the temple was suffering because of him.

At one point a very rude Thai swear word almost never used for monks was only half scribbled out indicating extreme dissatisfaction with the monk's behavior.

  12. Thailand to roll out biometric checks for SIM cards nationwide

    fingerprint-scan-650x336.jpg

BANGKOK (Reuters) – Thailand will introduce biometric checks nationwide for mobile telephone users to register their SIM cards from Dec. 15, the telecoms regulator said on Monday, in a bid to stamp out fraudulent electronic transactions.

The new rules require users to either have their fingerprints verified or their faces scanned.

The regulator first launched the system in June in Thailand’s troubled south where a separatist insurgency has persisted for more than a decade, killing more than 6,500 people since 2004.

Officials say insurgents in the largely ethnic Malay Muslim provinces of Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat have used pre-paid SIM cards to trigger bombs.

Biometric registration in the south was adopted for national security reasons but elsewhere in Thailand it is aimed at mobile banking security, regulatory official Takorn Tantasith told a news conference on Monday.
