Assault on Kiev: Russian helicopters swoop above Ukraine's capital
CatCage replied to Chris.B's topic in The War in Ukraine
Lack of air power to take down the aircraft that are raining this on the city. It's time NATO stepped in and put a no fly zone over Ukraine and then moved on to end this madman's mad ambitions. -

Of course Finland sanctioned and approved it, do you think it flew through Finland without permission? Maybe you are interpreting the statement incorrectly. if Russia attacks a NATO/USAF aircraft that is patrolling its boarder gathering ELINT whilst in Finland airspace or anywhere else it could get quite nasty. Finland is making a statement that it has applied to NATO for membership. The base for RC-135s is in UK. -

Russia wont like this one bit, I hope it does not escalate with them taking action over what is presently none NATO airspace. The flight according to other sources originated from RAF Mildenhall UK -

Poland to send four fighter jets to Ukraine 'in coming days'
CatCage replied to Scott's topic in World News
Not gong to help very much in the present state of the conflict, they really need a squadron of A10s to take out tanks and other ground targets. The US has scheduled A10 for retirement and could easily spare a few of these potent ground attack aircraft so wonder what the problem is? -

Correct and launched from aircraft deep inside Russia so even if they had F16s to take down the launch aircraft they are not allowed to go there as it might upset them even more. That is one heck of an advantage and sounds rather like trying to fight with one arm tied behind the back to me. -

I always believed a military vessel has many more watertight doors and compartments than a civilian ship and can be all be easily sealed off in the case of any battle damage, sounds like they were all left open and then water even got to the engine room and back up generators. And then to cap it off not enough life jackets. On the face of it sounds like clear case for dereliction of duty by so many on so many levels.

Ex-Afghan Commandos Fighting For Russia In Ukraine Left behind after last year’s chaotic and deadly U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, former Afghan special operations forces (SOF) - trained by the U.S. and allied SOF - are now fighting in Ukraine on behalf of Russia, the last commander of Afghan troops told The War Zone Wednesday. They are among tens of thousands of former Afghan troops - including about 5,000 former SOF - who fled to Iran last year, many of whom are being recruited with offers of income and security for them and their families, said Haibatullah Alizai, who became the last commander of Afghan's army in the days before the Taliban took over last August. You can read our interview with him about that here. An Afghan SOF commander before taking over the entire Army, Alizai said former Afghan troops in Iran preparing to fight on behalf of Russia told him that some are already in Ukraine. He said he did not know how many. "A group of them has already deployed" to Ukraine, said Alizai. Looks like the Ukrainians have been targeting the Russian built pontoon bridge to cut off the Kherson garrison. Ukrainian forces struck at a key crossing on the Dnipro River late Thursday night local time and may have tried to hit it again on Friday. Video evidence of the scene appears to show that Ukraine targeted, at least in part, the makeshift pontoon bridge Russia had just completed and is seen as essential for both resupply and potential retreat of Russian forces in Kherson. The pontoon bridge, made of a series of barges, sits right beside the Antonovsky bridge that has been unusable for months due to repeated precision rocket attacks. You can read all about the completion of the Pontoon bridge and why it is so critical to Russia's operations in Kherson https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/ukraine-situation-report-russias-kherson-pontoon-bridge-attacked -
