Russia flew €140m in cash and captured Western weapons to Iran in return for deadly drones, source claims A Russian military aircraft secretly transported the cash and three models of munition - a British NLAW anti-tank missile, a US Javelin anti-tank missile and a Stinger anti-aircraft missile - to an airport in Tehran in August, the source told Sky News. Russia flew €140m in cash and a selection of captured UK and US weapons to Iran in return for dozens of deadly drones for its war in Ukraine, a security source has claimed. A Russian military aircraft secretly transported the cash and three models of munition - a British NLAW anti-tank missile, a US Javelin anti-tank missile and a Stinger anti-aircraft missile - to an airport in Tehran in the early hours of 20 August, the source told Sky News, speaking on condition of anonymity to share sensitive information. https://news.sky.com/story/russia-gave-eur140m-and-captured-western-weapons-to-iran-in-return-for-deadly-drones-source-claims-12741742
  3. Ex-Afghan Commandos Fighting For Russia In Ukraine Left behind after last year’s chaotic and deadly U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, former Afghan special operations forces (SOF) - trained by the U.S. and allied SOF - are now fighting in Ukraine on behalf of Russia, the last commander of Afghan troops told The War Zone Wednesday. They are among tens of thousands of former Afghan troops - including about 5,000 former SOF - who fled to Iran last year, many of whom are being recruited with offers of income and security for them and their families, said Haibatullah Alizai, who became the last commander of Afghan's army in the days before the Taliban took over last August. You can read our interview with him about that here. An Afghan SOF commander before taking over the entire Army, Alizai said former Afghan troops in Iran preparing to fight on behalf of Russia told him that some are already in Ukraine. He said he did not know how many. "A group of them has already deployed" to Ukraine, said Alizai. 4. Looks like the Ukrainians have been targeting the Russian built pontoon bridge to cut off the Kherson garrison. Ukrainian forces struck at a key crossing on the Dnipro River late Thursday night local time and may have tried to hit it again on Friday. Video evidence of the scene appears to show that Ukraine targeted, at least in part, the makeshift pontoon bridge Russia had just completed and is seen as essential for both resupply and potential retreat of Russian forces in Kherson. The pontoon bridge, made of a series of barges, sits right beside the Antonovsky bridge that has been unusable for months due to repeated precision rocket attacks. You can read all about the completion of the Pontoon bridge and why it is so critical to Russia's operations in Kherson https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/ukraine-situation-report-russias-kherson-pontoon-bridge-attacked

  10. Ukraine hits Russian Wagner mercenary HQ in east Ukrainian artillery has struck a headquarters of Russia's shadowy Wagner paramilitary group of mercenaries in eastern Ukraine, reports say. The attack in Popasna was reported by Serhiy Hayday, Ukrainian governor of Luhansk region, and several pro-Kremlin war reporters. The number of casualties is not clear and details remain sketchy. Photos said to show the damage were posted on the Telegram messaging service. Wagner has been linked to war crimes. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-62547403 BBC NEWS
  11. Shrouded in secrecy for years, Russia’s Wagner Group opens up On paper, the Wagner Group, a Russian network providing fighters for hire, does not exist. It does not file tax returns, its alleged backers deny any connection to it and officially, private military companies (PMCs) are illegal in Russia. “Mercenaries have no official status, so they don’t have the same rights or guarantees as an official representative of the armed forces, and payment is only after completing a mission,” Marat Gabidullin told Al Jazeera. “You finish the mission, get paid and you can go on vacation.” More: https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2022/8/10/wagner-private-group-now-an-extension-of-russias-military Al Jazeera.
  12. Inside the city of the damned: What's going on in Putin occupied Kherson A cloud of thick smoke hangs over the occupied city of Kherson in Ukraine. Its very stench is evidence of Russian war crimes, on a scale almost too sickening to contemplate. The smoke comes from mobile incinerators that are running night and day. Vladimir Putin's paranoid soldiers are burning the corpses of Ukrainian citizens tortured and murdered on suspicion of helping the resistance. And they are dispatching the bodies of their own comrades too — hundreds of them. The Russians are killed by the constant pounding of Ukrainian shells from artillery placements surrounding the city and by highly organised, secret units of freedom fighters. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11086027/Insider-accounts-obtained-veteran-war-reporter-expose-unimaginable-evil-Kherson.html MAIL ONLINE
  13. Ukraine Situation Report: HIMARS Knocks Out Strategic Rail Bridge Near Kherson The legend of U.S.-supplied M142 HIMARS and its rockets grew again this week as a Ukrainian strike knocked out the Antonivskiy Railway Bridge over the Dnipro River. Strikes earlier this week took out the Antonovskiy Bridge, which carries the E97 Highway over the river just a few miles downstream of the railway crossing. The two bridges near Kherson, as well as the dam at Nova Kakhovka upriver, are vital supply links to Russian forces across the river. Unfortunately for the Russians, they are known, fixed targets in HIMARS range. As such, the life expectancy on those targets, like Russian ammo dumps, isn’t great. High-resolution satellite imagery from Planet Labs shows damage to the bridge on the river's south bank from July 28. https://aseannow.com/topic/1267445-video-appears-to-show-russian-soldier-castrating-ukrainian-prisoner/#comment-17513620 The War Zone

  16. Russia dredges up landing ship hit by Ukraine missile fire Russia says it has salvaged a large landing ship scuttled by its crew after a Ukrainian missile strike damaged it in the port of Berdyansk on 24 March. A Telegram post by a Russian-appointed official in southern Ukraine, Vladimir Rogov, says Tochka-U ballistic missiles had targeted the Russian-held port. The crew sank the ship "to prevent detonation of the on-board munitions by the fire that had started", he said. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-62022476
  17. Watched all of these recently and was most disappointed: Halo Don't know what to make of it but its all over the place with more wokeness than story line Grace First series were very good, this new one is very slow and meh Better call Saul made it to episode six of the new series, it is so slow with all kinds on irrelevant side plots. Everything everywhere All at once made it only half way through this mess, incoherent dialogue, irrelevant flashbacks, how did it get such a high IMDB rating. Maybe I was just spoilt watching Yellowstone

  21. 4 ways Russia is trying to prove it can live with sanctions London (CNN Business)Russian President Vladimir Putin has devoted considerable airtime over the past few weeks to reassuring the Russian public that sanctions hurt the West more than they hurt Russia. Putin is preparing his country for the long haul. "The collective West does not plan on backing off its policy of economic pressure on Russia," he told aviation executives recently. Every sector of Russia's economy needs to "make a long-term plan based on internal opportunities." https://edition.cnn.com/2022/04/22/business/russia-living-with-sanctions/index.html
