  1. Yeh tricky one this, if less than 24hrs (1day) I would of just left it as the have a waiver of 24hrs so no fine or hassle at airport immigration.

2 days will cost you 1000baht.

Paying for extension will cost you 1900bt & time wasted to deal with it. obviously nice be legal as more roadside checks etc these days.

The amount of overstay is actually less than 24 hours ,as I arrive at around 19:30 in the evening and leave at 08:00 in the morning , but I believe they count these as whole Days.
  2. Made a bit of a miscalculation on my number of Days stay in Thailand.

I have a single entry tourist visa which will give me 60 Days , but according to my air ticket and checking on a calendar I will be either 61 or 62 Days in country. I arrive at Bangkok airport on 9th July and depart from same airport on 8th Sept.

Is it best to extend for 30 days at 1,900Baht at probably Phuket Immigration office or just turn up at the airport and pay the overstay fine.?

  3. Funny to read all these responses of staying out of it. I wonder if it would happen to them and somebody, friend f.i., knew their girl was bad news, and they would keep quiet, how they would react when later it all went sour.

A little sincere help from friends/acquintances CAN be reciprocal.

    It did happen to me!

I was walking down the road with a mate, and there was my gf, arm in arm with some white guy.

My mate said, isn't that your misses, I said shhhh, we'll not notice.

As they passed she gave me a sneaky sideways smile, I didn't say a word.

    How did it continue ?
I married her two weeks later.
Hope you got a discount on the sin sot.

  4. I used to get plagued by dogs snapping at my heels when I went out on early morning marathon training runs , until a fellow runner (Thai) informed me that he carried with him on his runs a small high intensity bike light (ie lezyne microlite) which he would shine in the general direction of the dog/s , the dog could not resist looking at the light and would be momentarily blinded by it , even in daylight.

Turned out to be good advice.

  5. Back in 2000, around Christmas time, I met a 'lady' in Samui. I was there for a month and having a good old time, with her as well! Anyway, after a week or so, there were constant phone calls in which she would have to walk away to speak but not far enough away for me to hear that she was speaking English. The calls continued so in the end I asked, is that your boyfriend? 'No' she replied, just some Austrian guy that had sent her 50k Baht to buy a flight ticket with (she showed me her bank book) and he was coming to sort out a visa for her to visit Austria. Anyway, after many calls, she changed her number and we went up country travelling. Cruel I know but TIT man!

As some posters say, there could me a multitude of reasons as to why she's not playing now but I would like to know more about this girl as it reminds me of some and maybe many others here of 'experiences' with these little darlings.

Small world , I know this "lady" for over 10 years.

Just to fill in the blanks , if your interested.

The Austrian did indeed come over to Thailand and sort out her visa and she did briefly visit Austria.

Interestingly upon arrival at Vienna airport she made an ATM withdrawal from an account set up for her by another "cough" boyfriend , emptying that account. There is a stickman post from around 2001/2 by the other guy on his experience with aforementioned lady.

On her return from Austria , she moved on to Phuket and worked in soi Seadragon , Patong up until about three Years ago.

Now she is in Chiang Mai and at 43 years old , showing no signs of retiring , still looks good though!

  6. What never fails to amaze me here is the price of spam in the supermarkets.

It is something like 240 Baht for a small tin.

In the UK , the only people who eat this sh*t are those struggling to meet their mortgage payments 555 , yet over here it is a luxury item eaten only on special occasions,

  7. There is a place on Choafa rd east , just at the junction where the turn off is for Phuket zoo.

Doubles up as a second hand book shop on the left hand side , if you are coming from chalong circle.

    Hope this helps .

  8. Just done a comparison for the Thai v Uk prices for all the 4G models.

Prices include the tax refund at the airport ie Vat free on theThai price , using conversion rate of 49Baht = £1

    16GB £390 Thai v £499 UK

    32GB £448 Thai v £579 UK

    64GB £505 Thai v £659 UK

    iPad2 wifi + 3G

    16GB £257 Thai v £429 UK

Pretty good savings for those from the Uk here on holiday or indeed expats doing Visa runs

  9. Just did BKK - Loei last weekend.

BKK via 9, 1 to Saraburi still flooded.

I took BKK 7 to Bang Kapong, 314 Chachoengsao, then 304 to Korat, then 205/201 to Loei.

    Took me 8 hrs!!!

    Good luck!!

Thanks for that , the only other question I have is the 35 from Petchaburi to the Dao Khanong bridge free from the floods.

Was meant to drive up to Loei today , but just received word that the Bangkok marathon in which I am taking part has been postponed , therefore not the same urgency to get up there , as this is where I do my final preparation.

    Many Thanks!!

  10. Planning on driving from Phuket to Loei , starting out tomorrow morning , will be travelling up road 41 between Surat Thani and Chumpon , then Highway 4 Chumpon all the way to the western edge of Bangkok , onto highway 35 past the 2 Samuts , on to Highway 9 clockwise all the way up to Saraburi , on to 201 just before Korat , following this all the way to Chumpae.

Is any of this route flooded at the mo?

  11. 9/10. Remember , When you go with a farang , you must always ask for taxi money and give him the excuse that taxi drivers cannot give change on big notes. Do not let him see small change in your wallet. If taxi money isn't forthcoming , see rule 4/10.

  12. 5/10. When you get a customer for an extended period of time , make sure he takes you shopping , with Rarn Tong (Gold Shop) being the best place to visit. Make sure he buys you gold and if he doesn't , see rule 4/10.
