  1. I think Starbucks have taken exactly the right course of action.

Starbung's is better tasting and you do not have to wait 15 minutes to get it. Their overheads are lower and they got a sense of humour. They might even pay taxes ( sorry Starbucks get someone to explain this concept to you ) which would differentiate them in another way.

Quite understandable that Starbucks have donned their brown trousers and headed for court, with competition like this their days could be numbered.

  2. Just what Thailand nees, an extra public holiday. It will soon be easier to itemise the working days than the public holidays.

Of course the poor public servants are the only ones who benefit from the Thai hols, the Buddha hols, the Christian hols. Have I missed any?

probably the Lao & Cambodian hols too??

Chinese Holidays....Lord knows we need more tourists from China. They are so courteous, clean and practice all the safety rules of the road.

Congrats Jaltsc, your wish is granted !!

After President Li's visit, visa restrictions have been largely lifted so that people from the provinces do not have to go to the nearest capital to file their paperwork. It was on the news here this morning that the 3m Chinese tourists in 2012 will be 5m in 2014.

You think the people from Beijing and Shanghai are courteous, talk quietly and never gob on the floor, wait until you meet the new arrivals from Gansu and Jilin coming to get away from the winter cold !! Enjoy !! laugh.png

  3. If his company is real and he has a work permit, why does he not apply in Thailand?

Because although living here, he travels to the UK annually to visit family plus normally exits Thailand at least every 90 days on business.

But you say he has 3 months remaining on his work permit ( his B Visa ? ) so why not just come back and apply here ? Does not make sense, Far less hassle than going to Hessle biggrin.png

  4. But there's a story like this every day in Pattaya on Thai Visa. There has to be some relationship. Are people buying condos and then getting killed so the condos revert back the Thai companies because foreigners can't pass condos onto other people after they die?

There's got to be some larger scheme in play here? It can't all be coincidence, that every day people are murdered in their apartments in Pattaya, or jump.

It may seem like it happens every day, but I suspect that it is not more common than many other places in the world. However in other parts journalists seek out other topics to write about. Any death is a tragedy, but can't TV focus on other things happening in Pattaya and try to find something positive to balance the bad? No wonder people get a downer on the place when they see the headlines every day.

  5. Beach trash caused by deposits is just the tip of the iceberg.

Attitudes to garbage need to change. How many of us drive past piles of "night trash" illegally fly tipped, every day ? We have a great country here, let's make it better. Or get the politicians or the police, when do anyone ever listen to them.

We need a member of the Royal Family ( like Prince Charles has done with his environmental crusades ) to stand up and challenge us to be better. Tell the fly tippers they are shaming Thailand and they have no place here. Shame them into stopping the practice.

Yes it costs money to dispose of waste, but it costs a lot more in lost tourist revenues because people go to Singapore or Kuala Lumpur because it is cleaner and smells less.

  6. Another tragedy that could have been avoided with sensible controls.

How many times do we have to take evasive action to avoid pick-ups with 15-20 people on board, swaying from side to side because they are dangerously overloaded. When the driver seems to have been driving under some influences, the results are almost inevitable.

By all means have huge numbers of police stopping people for not wearing helmets while driving their bikes/ scooters, but get real with the major source of casualties. We all know them, aggressive minibus drivers and worker pickups.

  7. Chinese 'Blackmail Gang' Arrested By Thai Police

BANGKOK: -- The Thai police have arrested 5 Chinese nationals accused for blackmailing businessmen in China.

According to the press conference held at the Investigation Division Immigration Bureau, the group had previously tried to lure money from several companies based in China.

The method of the group is to send emails to various companies, threatening that they would insert computer virus into the victims′ system, unless the companies pay them extortive amount of money, police said.

The blackmailing had caused Chinese businessmen to lose approximately over 100 million baht according to a senior police officer.

The 5 individuals fled to Thailand after the Chinese police issued arrest warrants on the group, following complaints from a number of companies.

Thai police eventually apprehended the suspects on 26 September, acting on the request by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Bangkok.

According to the police, one suspect had escaped and crossed Thai’s border to a third country. The rest of the groups will be extradited to China as soon as possible.
