  1. Great to see they are taking this so seriously and taking such tough measures. A stern talking to will undoubtedly solve the problem.

Does this mean that they will change the taxi parking arrangements at Suvarnabhumi ? At present you go to the desk and get allocated a taxi, the taxis are parked facing away from you, so you do not have a cat in hell's chance of seeing anything on the windscreen.

Why not tattoo a smile.png on all the complying drivers foreheads ? After all it will only affect one or two individuals.

  2. Having read this and other articles by Mr. Euhara, it sounds to me that he is just trying to put people off from investing here. His choice of examples and his travel program are spectacularly naïve.

Inward investment in most countries is a big challenge, one of the biggest losers is Japan, so Mr. E seems to be trying to scare people. Before TV members start Thai bashing consider :-

Vietnam , Laos and Cambodia do not have the electricity we do. Show stopper for big employers to go there.

Ditto roads, transport damage on the way to market from products made in these countries is severe.

Attendance rates are worse, the work ethic here is better. Thailand has done a pretty good job of balancing salaries and staying competitive. You pay peanuts you suffer.

Infrastructure around BKK is struggling. The current investment in roads around Amata with roads to Laem Chabang port will keep us ahead of the game.

I could go on, but I got work to do, figuring out how to improve this year on the 22% increase in business we achieved last year from 2014.

  3. Tawaen Beach, that well known deserted strip of sand, where two Chinese were confronted by two extremely dangerous Thai souvenir sellers. They must have been terrified.

Being such a lonely place there would have been no one filming the exchange, and no bars around to retreat to. What a load of ****.

First of all who takes such a large amount of foreign currency to an island ? Then if they were confronted like that, in broad daylight, why did they wait until they got back " late at night ".

Sounds like they bought some genuine plastic souvenirs, then thought better of it. That's the Chinese way.

  4. You are not going to fix drunk driving overnight. Instead of 21,690 people being charged on only 3,046 having their vehicles seized, all should have had this happen to them. They could then get them back with the warning that if they are found drunk in the next 5 years they will lose them permanently, along with their licences for 3 years.

It should not be a campaign over the "dangerous" periods. With or without festivals / holidays an unacceptable amount of people die on our roads, making it a long term policy is the only way to change mind sets.

  5. Yes let's hope this changes people's behavior, but I think it will be a long haul.

Friday morning was going to my golf at 5.30am, and passed 2 cars near the Floating Market doing about 50km / hr weaving all over the road. I am sure if stopped those drivers would have melted the breathalyzer, not just failed it.

Happy to see it as long as it is even handed. A cynic might think that this now ramps up the "consultancy fee" exchanged with the nice man in the helmet for not doing a test and waving the driver on his way. In that case any farang is going to be a marked man, for the guy in the old rusty pickup without lights it is probably a months salary and how could it possibly be collected ? How many rusty pickups can the police store at one time. Nice new Fortuna's , now that's a different matter.

  6. I read that this lady took part in a photo opportunity collecting rubbish and fly tippers waste from a part of her constituency yesterday.

Wouldn't it be nice if some of our public figures did the same and declared a war on something that blights our country. Seeing the amount of waste dumped down side roads and down almost every country road, there should be a huge untapped income stream for the government from fines.

Finding the culprits should be relatively easy. Offer substantial rewards to whistle blowers on conviction, every village would then have a vested interest. This would work as long as the money found its way to the informer from a central source, this would mean keeping the police well out of it.

It would improve the quality of ex-patriot life as well. We would not have to listen to the constant complaints from holiday makers who have had their scenic views spoiled, or their noses assaulted by the bouquet of something rotting.
