3. Why do all Italian tourists feel it necessary to start clapping as soon as the aircraft has landed? On a little ATR
it can be disturbing but I guess that on a charter 747 the noise would be unimagineable.
Never thought about clapping after landing would be pointed towards a specific country.
We used to do it a lot here in scandinavia.
In general it seems like it's travellers 40+ that still claps after landing.
I remember when i was a kid, almost the whole plane would clap after landing on let's say Mallorca or ibiza, and so did i
Why?
No idea.
But here it's normally only on long flights that clapping happens.
On domestic flights i never heard anyone clap after landing, so maybe it's more frequent at charter flights?
Can't see what the fuzz is about anyway.
People are happy to land safely on their destination and so they want to share their happiness by clapping.
It could be aimed towards the pilots and crew for their good work?
Could be the booze clapping?
Could be nervous passengers clapping cause they still are alive?
Could be people just beeing happy to arrive at their dream destination fullfilled with hope?
It's not like clappers are going to ruin your holiday, so share their happiness and enjoy your safe landings where ever you might end up in your future.

Sad how a day out in town can turn tragic so fast.
Tragic for those who died and for their families and friends but also tragic for those burn victims that survived and now has to struggle through
painful recoveries.
Best wishes to all of the victims and their families.
Sad just sad....

Great shots Virt, glad you did not name all the secret quiet beaches....
the only shot that is a bit out of focus, is the one at the Green Mango, did the camera have too much to drink???
That was actually on purpose.
Since it's a buzy electrified place for the youngsters i tried to get the "boxes on the powerlines" in focus.

Here is a few of the pictures i shot during the 3 weeks.
Just shot on a compact panasonic so nothing fancy.
Got a nasty scratch on my lens and some dust on the sensor, so that's why there are spots, blurred areas.
Got to get a new camera for next years vacation.
Have tons of full hd 1080p videos from all the places we been to, but that have to wait until i got time to edit some footage.
We miss Samui so much......... -
Maybe some of you guys should settle it at some of the shooting ranges across this island :-)
Thought about going there for the last three trips but never tried one of those places so far.
As for carrying a weapon here is my oppinion.
You can kill but you need to catch me first :-)
Im one of those guys who loves to drink, but i never fight, and if i end up in a corner i can normally talk myself out of it.
Life is precious and everyone should appreciate it.

@Big C.
We decided not to go to that view point and instead just stopped at various places already mentioned. Also stopped at a place on the road where they had a zillion coconuts laying around. Bought some oil from there and took some pictures. never seen so many coconuts on one place before :-)
Going to bother you all with some pictures when i get home and get time to edit things :-)
Gourgeous beaches on this island and amazing how empty some of them are.
Can imagine that was how Chaweng looked like twenty years ago.

As for the picture poorsucker posted.
Maybe that happens again even after they put asphalt on the roads?
The last week the roadworkers has been really busy on chaweng mainstreet and they have finished putting asphalt on most of it , if not all today.
Amazed at how quickly they work, under those conditions.
Putting asphalt on one side of the road while the other side is open for traffic with no barriers or anything :-)
Also noticed that a lot of the workers worked in flipflops on the hot asphalt. Crazy :-)
Seems like people didnt care about whether the workers were finished or not, cause they constantly drove over it even if it was layed down five minutes before.
Workers did try to put up a small barriere or two but people just ran them over in their trucks.
But also saw that they put asphalt over a lot of the drainage holes. They even entirely covered some of the large metal grills.(sp?)
Wonder how that will affect the drainage when rain sets in.

Witnessed some indian staff in a restaurant beating up some dogs with sticks and didnt like what we saw so we left immidiatly without finishing meal, drinks.
Never going to visit that place again.
Off course i realize that loose dogs can cause problems, but so far all the ones we meet at beach has not been agressive, but did however see some incidents on the roads that could have resulted in people getting hurt.
Yesterday two dogs chased eachother out on the street and was close to run out into two people on scooters but nothing happened thank god.
The other day we saw a thai woman with a huge dog that looked like a rottweiler on a leash, and it almost dragged her out in the busy traffic whilst trying to get to a soi dog on the other side of the road. Good thing she was one of the thais with a few kilos on the side or else i can imagine what could have happened.
Would be nice if all the dogs on loose could get adopted by families on the island, but i realize that is wishful thinking.
Cant do much about it here as a tourist, but can atleast donate some money to the shelter.
Have a safe day everyone.

Came home from a wonderful day and saw some beautiful beaches.
Amazing how quiet those beaches are compared to Chaweng beach.
Went to a small bay near thong krut with a lot of long tail boats located at beach area. Didnt see anyone at beach cept for me,gf and a few local fishermen. Stunning looking beach.
Then went to taling ngam with a view to fives islands.
Saw less than ten people at the place we were and there was a nice rocky area on beach going left from where we entered.
Next stop lipa noi a bit south from nikki beach. bit more people there but beautiful beach.
Ended up near bang po and had some drinking and eating there. almost deserted beach but nice one though.
Can see why people go on a scooter and leave for these places.
Still amazed how deserted some of the places were.
Took lots of pictures and videoes so have a lot to edit when going home.
And now its times for some beers.
Cheers :-)

Seems like they are doing something about the roads.
Noticed the last few days that they concreted a lot of holes in the northend end of chaweng road and when we got to our hotel this night they put asfalt (not sure if thats the word) on the one side of the road and sounds like they are working on the other side today.
:-)

even the T junction down at end of lake road scare me so can imagine what a roundabout would do.
Normally when we try to cross that t juntion we go like 50 m to one side just to be sure we can cross it safely lol :-)
We just stand there and look like dummies, while waiting for no ones is in sight, while the locals just sprint across the road.
So if you see one standing for twenty seconds looking both ways its me lol.
Love this island but will never get used to the traffic :-)

i seriously need a better tablet cause tyis one cant quote and i think some of the jokes i try to makes get lost, or maybe we danish people just do not understand tha xcpat jokes.

Thanks jimmy.
Think we play it safe. Dont want our waitor to get in trouble if he drives into places he has not been before or are not familiar with.
Has been raining quite a bit lately so can imagine how some of the inland roads look like. Sounds like new big buddha could be an option instead.
Will ask him later today if he is familar with that one.
Now i just hope the weather is as good tomorrow as it is today.
Beautiful weather today.
Cheers.

Our friendly waitor at our hotel offered us to drive us around the island tomorrow on his day off ,and we looked at different places, that might be interesting to see and we noticed on the samui map there is a view point restaurant up near paradise park farm.
That would be a nice spot to visit so we could see it from above, but he is not sure if a rental car would make it , so i thought some of you here knew it
:-)
Other that that we planning to go see buddas footprint, five islands view from beach, taling ngam beach, lipa noi beach, mae nam beach, pang ka bay and if time enough go to see big buddha again in the afternoon.

Does not seem like low season where we live.
Tons of fellow europeans here at our hotel atm and it seems like half of Denmark is located at the hotel, and also seems like hotel is pretty full, so no low season here at this hotel.
Can only speak for myself, but the weather in europe is not to be trusted in the summer, so i rather spend some more money and come here to thailand, than to chance it and go to example greece or something.
Plus when you consider the prices in some europeans countries its maybe cheaper to spend 3 weeks in thailand than at home, if you want to go out and dine as drink every day for 3 weeks.

Sorry doublepost. Wanted to edit txt but things mess up on this tablet

Thanks.
Then i can enter the water again without a pair of spare pants in my backpack :-)
Getting jumpy enough as it is when i swim into seaweed and stuff turning up right infront of me, but i hope in time i get less nervous.
:-)
-
Please tell me this is just a rope :-)
Sat and watched some of the pictures we took while trying to snorkle and shot this at north end chaweng.
If this is a seasnake i will never enter the water again so i hope its just a rope, that play tricks with my mind.
I am scared enough entering the waters since my accident in water last year lol :-)

Do not know what the drink contains.
My girlfriend just ordered it cause it had a funny name.
We ask if we go there again :-)

Been to various places the last 12 days and really havent been to a place that we disliked, but we mostly been to places we dined at the last two vacations, but did visit a few new places and one we been to a few times now is Stonefish restaurant located at Chaweng lake road, at food market just next to Mitra.
Great food and very good service at cheap prices.
Their seafood is really great and so are their whole fish grilled with sweet and sour.
yummy.
Last night we had.
300 grams of grilled prawns with spicy sweet and sour.
1 papaya salad
1 dish of grilled tigerprawns with garlic pepper.
2x garlicbread
1 x rice
1 tequila sunrise
1 archie drink
1 water
2 large singha beers.
Everything was really nice and bill was 780 bath.
Stonefish restaurant worth a visit imo.
Seems like there is quite a few good restaurants at that food market on lake road.
Also been to Mitra a couple of times and that is also very nice and cheap.

So much for us not witnessing an accident. Took at walk down lake road near food market and while waiting to cross the road safely ,two thais crashed into eachother and both ended up on the road. Not nice to witness but thank god both got up and could drag their bikes away so we left without interfeering.
Minutes After that we witnessed two guys on bikes driving up on the sidewalk with a somewhat high speed because there was a bit of a trafficjam after accident, and was thinking about how crazy it was,but noticed one of the guys had a go pro camera mounted to his helmet.
I just hope he does not end up filming his own accident waiting to happen.
-
Just wanted to express my concerns about accidents waiting to happen and found this thread suiting to do so. Sorry if i posted it in a wrong thread.
-
Sat at Samui rock cafe last night and enjoyed a few drinks and watched people go by on the lake road.
Think it was like one out of seven or so that had a helmet on.
The local police could make a fortune if they started fining people for not wearing a helmet, and a nice side effect would hopefully be a drop in fatalities, cause people drive like crazy here.
Thank god i havent witnessed an accident yet or been in one,but can understand why so many happens.
Sad that so many accidents happens here.
Another thing that boggles my mind is the way the do their wiring of the electricity. Noticed they built a nice sidewalk on lake road compared to last year, but parked cars are blocking most of it and at certain point the wires are hanging down at chest height. walking there at night is a bit scary.

went to a diveshop today on mainstreet and bought a new mask and snorkle that seemed to fit better than the one my girlfriend had and she bought a pair too. Wanted to see if another mask could improve the experience even without glasses. jumped into the sea a little bit south of koh matlang with two small islands maybe 300 meters out.
Scary :-)
Water was not clear at all and without glasses i could not see further than maybe 1 meter and i constantly was close to swimming into the corals on shallow water which spooked me when they appeared right in front of my face :-) Mask fitted better though so can see a suitable mask is important. but for now i think i will wait to snorkle until water get clearer cause i am afraid to dunk my head into some coral :-) but can see why people love to dive when equipment and conditions are good.
Where To Spend The Evenings In Samui 2012?
in Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Koh Tao

You said that you wanted western/thai music, so not sure this suits you, but when we visited Samui in July, Samui Rock Cafe down at Chaweng food market on lake road, each sunday has live music from 8 or 9 pm.
It's a Thaiband called The Black Roses that play cover numbers and it's mainly rock music, but also do numbers by request if they know them.
Their lead guitarist is pretty darn good and the atmosphere at the cafe is great.
Maybe worth a visit?
