  1. Seems like those maps can't be used as a "safeguide" anymore after yesterdays blast outside Big C.

Danish tourist injured in yesterdays blast outside Big C.

He only suffered very minor injuries on the back of hís leg.

    http://nyhederne.tv2.dk/udland/2014-02-23-dansk-turist-i-bangkok-jeg-s%C3%A5-dr%C3%A6bt-dreng-lige-i-%C3%B8jnene

It's in Danish so try to describe the most important.

He left Big C and went outside to what he thought looked like a normal market place full of stalls and bought a pair of sunglasses.

Nothing around there reminded him of some sort of protest or rally site.

Looked just like another normal marketplace.

He was just one tourist amongst a lot of other tourists.

He was about 5 meters away from the blast.

At first he thought it was some sort of loud firecracker, but when turning around and he saw bodies on the ground and people started to panic and run, he did the same thing himself and ran.

He didn't noticed he was bleeding until a thai pointed at his leg.

Lucky for him it was just a very minor injury.

    And as he says.

If it could happen there it could happen anywhere.

I'm not so sure anymore that i feel like ending my vacation with 4 days in Bangkok late March as planned.

I love Bangkok and would love to return, but right now i just don't know.

Thoughts go to the killed, their families and all the wounded people on both sides in this mess...

  2. Ok i must say that was some pretty amazing control he had over that drone, especially flying in between the trees.

What else did i learn from that video.

I can see they did paint the basketball field and other stuff near the lake.

The festival center looks like it has trouble reaching it's original opening day march 1.

There was no walking street that day near monkey bay bar.

They torn down several buildings the last year in Chaweng.

They didn't get rid of those green ugly rubber thingies out in the water on Chaweng beach.

They got rid of the funny monkey statues near chaweng lake.

He got quite close to the powerlines/trees down near the Duke.

He spooked a couple of buffaloes.

    :)

  3. Hope it's ok to post a question in this thread instead of opening up another thread, and didn't think it would suit in the rant thread :)

What are peoples experience with rescheduling allready bought tickets?

I think the codes on our ticket is Y, but not sure what that means.

Are the planes normally full returning to Bangkok in mid march and is it possible to reschedule allready bought tickets with offcourse some sort of extra fee.

We're coming down to Samui from march 3-19 and then to Bangkok march 19-23.

But watching the daily and saddening newsbulletins from Bangkok makes us wonder if it's not better to just stay on Samui and fly straight home from Bangkok instead.

And now it's back to bed.

Both having the flu big time for 4 days, but atleast we got it now instead in a week :)

And looks like the weather report is nice.....

  4. <script type='text/javascript'>window.mod_pagespeed_start = Number(new Date());</script>

Lets hope no one was seriously injured.

Why? do you know anybody there?......What did you expect would happen now after the bridge debacle, be fair, who ever did this hasn't used up all his grenades yet, can't let them go to waste.

What kind of comment is that?

It's human beeings just like you and me.

    Have some respect please.

  5. I wish i didn't watch this :(

    Very graphical.

Tragic when people is killed or injured when they try to fight for what they think is right.

Not taking sides, because i'm just a falang who does not know which side is right or wrong,

but killing unarmed people is not a human thing to do, no matter if it's an unarmed protester or unarmed policeman.

Thoughts go to both sides in the conflict, for the victims that has been killed or wounded and their families.

  6. That means he sees in real time through glasses as if he was in the Drone

Very nice. Had a go with this on remote control cars in the UK a few years back. Even the experts would lean forward under breaking, lean into a corner and lean back when accelerating out. Great fun but very hard.

Hehe must be fun to watch someone doing a tour with hes drone.

But i must admit after seeing quite a few on those videos online, that's it's good they are not cheap to come by.

Otherwise i think there would be a lot of those things flying around areas where they are not suppose to be.

Would really suck if one of them crashed into a wire and fell down on the street and caused a traffic accident.

But the footage is still beautiful to watch.

    Just be careful with them.

  7. If i look at myself it probably would not have been a good idea to travel to Thailand at the age of 18.

Worked 23 years as a cooks apperentice/cook/souschef/Chef manager.

Lived the life in the fastlane from age 15 - mid 30's

Thailand would not have been a good place for me at the age of 18 but maybe your son is smarter than i was at the same age wink.png

But on the other hand, i would have loved to experience the joy of Thailand/Koh Samui so many years ago, so bring him when there still is some wonderful nature left that is not totally spoiled.

Even if some may say Samui is allready spoiled when it comes to that.

  8. RIP.

So sad with all the people loosing their lives on Samui in traffic accidents :(

It's insane how many people are getting killed on such a small island.

One of my biggest fear when visiting Samui is for me or my GF, getting smashed in a traffic accident, so we never rent a scooter and always use the overpriced taxis.

Off course Taxi's crash too, but i just hope it's safer than riding a motorbike.

I'm wondering if the fatalities would drop if the taxi's started to running by meters, so more people would use them and drop the motorbikes.

  9. Mole, Found a few clips so you maybe can get a better idea where shrine is located.

Nothing fancy, just a few raw clips, shaken and all.

If i look at your runkeeper when you went to matlang it looks like its located just north of your 6km mark in the north eastern place on matlang.

You can maybe pinpoint it in ladt clip with the locals fishing in the southern end of matlang.

    26 days and counting.

Will be nice to get away from this cold climate. Outside my window the other day.

  10. You can see more pics from this island when I was there in July 2013 during extreme love tide, when it's possible to walk there.

    http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/125263-images-of-samui-phangan-and-tao/page-15#entry6637190

May I ask exactly where that serpent shrine is?

I did not see it when I was there, so perhaps it was on the western part of the island?

I only went on the eastern part of island. Stupid me forgot to bring with me water and only had pepsi + double whopper which I ate on the island as breakfast.

(I have the habit of posting on my facebook various food that I eat on the beach as breakfast and on that particular day, I decided it was gonna be a double whopper)

Naturally I got quite thirsty after a short while and just had to hurry back to nearest kiosk to get some water....

So was unable to explore the western part. Next year I definitely will!

And I won't forget to bring enough water this time! (And NOPE, definitely not whopper again.)

    attachicon.gif1374457693223.jpg attachicon.gif1374457711519.jpg attachicon.gif1374457875674.jpg

Pretty sure this view is unfamiliar to most people.

Lol that sure is something i never packed in my backpack when exploring "islands" :)

For water or coke i normally go to the little Thai place that looks a bit "used" opposite mat lang, before i head out to MatLang.

    As for location of shrine.

I'm pretty sure it was on Matlang on the north eastern side, but now i'm in doubt.

Will have a look when i get home from work in a few hours, and see if i have some video footage from some of my tours, as my gps in the camera is not exact when i'm out sailing.

Are you sure you didn't bring burgers to the locals out there, so they didn't shoot you on sight ;)

  11. Been out there a few times to take pictures on the side facing Chaweng beach, and noticed some signs in Thais but have no idea what they say, so didn't walk past those signs.

Noticed that on the east side of matlang there is some sort of a serpent shrine, that we saw when sailing down to Koh Tan.

Would like to go out there again on next vacation for more photos, but don't walk to tresspass or upset anyone, so would be nice to know if the island is free to explore or if some parts are privately owned..

Would like to get up close to this and get some better photos if it is allowed.

    Thanks.

  12. Ahh yeah, the shell shop in Nathon, Been there one time, but can't recall that i saw any pufferfish, but they sure had a lot of other beautiful things ,especially their huge conchs.

About Big Buddha, didn't walk around a lot in all the various shops the few times i have been there, so that might be a good idea too.

And if that fails, i could try and ask the staff nicely in this restaurant in Bangkok next to our hotel, if they want to sell me one of theirs smile.png
