a 2 storey house has footings of just over a meter, the rebar is steel, but is encased in concrete.

an earthing rod is copper and 2 meters long and goes into the dirt without concrete.

then again either is better than no earth at all, but using the rebar as an earth goes against all learnings of how to do electrics. but its still most defineately better than no earth at all..

I agree with Crazy Daves comments about the police do know what is going on. 

I only come to Pattaya at weekends and I can think of which gogo's have underage girls (and for the MOST part, they are NOT on Walking Street), which bars employ farang without work permits, Which characters are as big a villains as they come (and how all seem to be upstanding members of community/rotary types/donations to orphanages/paying for new police buildings etc).

The police DO know what goes on in Pattaya however for the most part they choose to ignore it.

digger you are one of the few that understand thailand, quite a few years ago the thai police wanted pics and copys of passports of all gogo managers, i at the time was managing a gogo, we went up into the office and i told the cop who works at soi 9 for cid to fok himself, i told him when he has pics etc of all the other managers of gogos in pattaya i would let him take my pic, fok me 3 weeks later he had pics of all the gogo bar managers, i still told him to fok himself, yeah ok the police know we are working without a permit in that business but i was foked if i was gonna give then proof..

hmmmm, seems to be way too many rich ppl here, ok i can live on 22,000baht per month, my rent is 6,000baht per month, my electric is a bit high due to aircon, but yep 22,000baht per month, thats with 2 bikes 1 car and 1 truck and eating at home, but alas i have never actually got it down that low, cos there is that little thing called ENTERTAINMENT, now thats where the money will go, now i have to admit that wot i consider entertainment is naked women and booze, and i seem to spend way too much on that and the way things are going as i get older i can see it being more expensive with the need of things like viagra, yep getting old here aint such a good idea

when i used to work in the gogos we all paid the police, the police do not want this situation changed, its one h.ell of a lot of money each month, blaming the arrest on the farang is an easy way out for all the thais involved.

as for seeing an act of sexual abuse to a 15 year old thai gall and 2 17 year old thai gals i have to admit to never seeing that, if it happened in my home country i would be the first one complaining, but as this is not my home country i would in no way get involved and neither would any tourist, as these cases take several months to go thru the court system you will find that the grass is not a tourist on vacation.

i might add that its only in the last few years that the age of consent has gone from 15 to 16, now ok this isnt bars and whores but the age of consent laws here between normal thai kids.

anyway all you brave dogooders out there, would one of you do me the favour of finding the link of the german who got shot this month for trying to break up a fight between thais, i bet he feels like a real hero now as he lays in the hospital, nope my advice is let them sort out their own problems and dont get involved...

I follow the point but I feel bad for the German tourist that got shot trying to do the right thing, but some people do take risks to help others, and these people should be rewarded.

For the German that got killed there are plenty of other people that helped break up fights between Thais, stop a Thai guy beating the shit out of his Thai wife and didn't get killed and are better people for it.

I think turning a blind eye to an underage girl being sexually abused because it's not your country and your scared of being shot is a poor excuse, much more honest to say you don't care about it because it may inconvenience your life.

lets actually put this in easy terms we all understand, now us farangs say have 20 reasonably close acquaintices or friends if you will, yet we all know which bars are showing, now soi 9 has 800 odd police, the tourist police i have no idea of how many, city hall police, immigration police, plus all the volunteers thai and farang for the differant police forces, so lets say there are 1500 police here in pattaya, lets say they also know 20 ppl each, do you really believe that they do not know which bars are showing?

rdn, yes but in our own home country, here we are purely guests, whether it be a 3 month or 1 year visa, the thai police know every single bar that is showing, but they are selective over the ones they charge or close, now the onus is on the farang that grassed the bar up rather than the police who knew it was showing and arrested them.

ok underage is extremely serious and wrong, but the thai police if they had the bottle could have raided it themselves and took the blame rather than getting some dumb farang to go in and take pics and then call them when the show is starting so he gets the blame for the arrest, it is purely the thai police protecting there income...
