  1. [ so I could turn up having already booked my meal at Mountains Place (as my Thai wife calls the FC,Surin :o )

I trust that refers to the size of my meals rather than the size of me!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. Well, whether you like it or not, think it's wonderful or a complete waste of time, this years Round-up surpassed all expectations. Saturdays show was completely sold out, with queues of people waiting for tickets. If I had sold some of the tickets that had been ordered through me, I could have made a lot as a ticket tout, but that is not my way, so I held on to the tickets to the bitter end. In the end I had seven left over from people who ordered and didn't pick them up. So if anyone wants tickets for this years round-up............................................ :o

Only 7 Robee? Surely you can do better than that.

On the brighter side, the Governers office bought Tom Bishops tickets back from me, as of course he could not use them, so, if you are reading this Tom, I have your refund.

We at the F.C. had a good festival as well, cooking over 500 meals for the weekend. My girls were great. We had a limited menu on, with 14 of our best sellers, and no person had to wait longer than about 40 minutes for his/her meal. The average was around 25 mins. We opened at 05.00 for the early train, and closed at around midnight, so once a year is quite enough. We had 137 people booked in to various Hotels, and only a few didn't turn up. One guy who I will not name, (Fernando) booked into more than one Hotel, to make sure he had a room. He even had the cheek to phone me up to deliver his tickets to the Hotel he finally settled for, which wasn't one of mine. So, a rest...............................no wait. Xmas in four weeks :D

  3. Wrong again.........it was a Thai lady. Wife of the writer and travel agent Tom Bishop from BKK. She suffered a broken leg, broken arm, cuts & bruises.

So, do you think the elephant festival will get a bad write up now???

    John.....

No I don't think so. The BKK Post reported the incident...................Surin elephant festival, blah, blah blah..........................Oh and by the way four peole were seriously injured, as an after thought.

We had a guy in today that said the woman had died according to the paper. I strongly disputed the fact as the guy in question who's wife it was is a friend of mine. He told me his wife had told him it was in today's paper. When we confronted her , she said. " Well it says in the paper she didn't die, but a guy at the sontam stall told me she had"

  4. So will I with wife (plus big bruv, Alan the Dude&partner)

    Matron

Can you add one more place to our party of 4 please, as Colin the Dude has now decided not to go back to our 'green & pleasant land.'

I will be in to pay up later this week

    :o

    Dave & group

Sure thing........anyone that " Comes in and pays" in my establishment is OK. :D

  5. My condolences go out to the poor ferang who was trampled to death yesterday at The Surin Elephant Buffet. Me & 'er indoors' were sitting on one of the Chang when they started to get very aggitated. Bit scary! :o

It must be remembered that these cute Dumbo's are still wild animals and can get spooked by various stupid actions.

    :D

    Dave (still here BTW)

It now appears that the injured ferang lady 'just' had broken bones and did not die. Sorry for the mis-information. From the back of my Chang I saw someone giving CPR and stupidly relied on Thai gossip.

    Dave

Wrong again.........it was a Thai lady. Wife of the writer and travel agent Tom Bishop from BKK. She suffered a broken leg, broken arm, cuts & bruises. I guess now this threads started on this line, by wednesday we will have a full Elephant stampede with 500 crushed. By the way where is Elizabeth Taylor?.

  6. My wife needs a new passport and was hoping we could do this in Ubon, rather than go back down to Bangkok where her initial passport was issued.

Any members know the location of such an office or at least the closest one to Si Sa Ket.

    Appreciate your input.

Yes...but where it is I do not know. I'm sure one of the locals will enlighten you more. Cheers.

  7. There is an Aussie in the neighbourhood (hope I don't drag the values down). Colin & Som at 57/1 Moo 2, Ban Sriang, Tambon Tap Tan. New house on the little river. A bit hard to find but I am sure the locals can tell you where Som's house, or the new house is. Welcome all to visit anytime. Colin

Pop along to the F.C. in good old Surin town and introduce yourself. :o

  8. As much as it is a delight to spend time with the ball and chain, one is expecting a slightly longer duration of stay this time in the lovely setting that is Pho Chai :o , due mainly to the collapsed wreckage that is the UK economy.

In order to avert the usual pattern of loneliness, decaying to total despair followed by a row with the old woman and a PB Air flight to Bangkok, does any one else of English tongue live in this area?

If so and if you want to come round for numerous ice cold ones, post away or PM me.

    Many thanks.

There are dozens, maybe hundreds in the area, not everyone reads the forum though. I believe a watering hole & meeting place is "The White Elephant" in Roi Et town. Not to be confused with the 'White Elephent' on my site in Surin Town.

  9. The festivals a complete waste of time. A market where you can buy plastic things and a load of elephants most of which should be somewhere else.

    -- Zoot

I don't agree. The show is great. Worth watching it at least one time. A few nice pictures can be found here for instance: http://www.east-asian-road.com/pub/enphot2a.php

Yes,there's some great pics there....................I was thinking of using some, but our sites are linked anyway.

It's not my website, but I've been there already. I know the owners but their guesthouse is already full during the festival.

And the owner Alban, is a very nice Frenchman.

A lot of things are a complete waste of time. Something else springs to mind

  12. I found two different starting dates, so not sure when it starts . . .

    http://www.farangconnection.com/index.php?...7&Itemid=30

    http://www.istc.org/sisp/index.htm?fx=even...;event_id=20341

Anyone know if anything is going on for the 21st?

    Hi farangnahrak

The information is correct on the Ferang Connection website and not that other one.

We live in Surin and after double checking with my Thai wife, I can 100% confirm that the Festival starts with the Elephant 'Breakfast' as it has every year.

That happens on the 21st and the festivities in the stadium are on the following few days.

    Enjoy,see you there

    Dave

As Dave says, the info is correct on my web-site. I finally persuaded the \Tourist Authority of Thailand to change their web-site to show the correct dates and not 14th, 15th & 16th as they were doing. Unfortunately ( or should I say now that I have given up trying to put it right, fortunately)we are expecting loads of visitors next weekend, because of all the web-sites still showing the earlier dates. Another equally unfortunate fact is the number of web-sites that do not mention The Elephant Parade & Breakfast, which commences at 08.00 Friday morning. I have over 100 guests booked in this year, and a good deal of them have changed their dates to accomodate Friday mornings spectacle. Anybody still wishing for rooms, we have plenty at the Surin Country Lodge, who after taking a full hotel booking of 50 Belgians, for 14th, 15th & 16th found themselves with an empty hotel after the dates were suddenly changed. We are gradually filling them now though.

  13. Well, she found someone, paid him 500 baht, he drove her to the Transportation Dept. and spent 30 minutes with her getting used to the car, she took the driving test (she had passed everything else on Monday), and now she has a license. Moderator, you can close this post. Thank you.

Pointless me saying " yes we do have an automatic" and you could have had it for 499 baht :o

  14. Love you too Ray..... let's just say that yesterday was problematical..... you retire, you think you have nothing to do on any given day, and then you find out that you are wrong.

I didn't realise that yesterday was the 1st until my stint at the radio station, it was just a Saturday (not to you obviously) then I had to attend a village wedding, then I was playing 'find the falang' until around 2am this morning after a distraut call from one of the wives (I found him eventually, covered in mud and stuff after he had put his motorcy into a ditch)

It's been a pretty crap weekend to be honest.

Phew...........good job it wasn't you in the ditch. They would never have found you if it was over two feet deep. :o

  15. I might be wrong, but I doubt very much you will get your visa extended there. This service is for three monthly check-ins, which is acceptable, as you can do it by post, or at a Police station anyway. An extension is an entirely different kettle of fish, which I think would be illegal outside of the Immigration office.

    Hi Lampshade :o

Can you do the 3 monthly check-ins at Surin Police Station?? :D

I never knew about that! Who do you ask for & is this service available all the time???

    Dave (confused of Sutton)

I believe the rule is that you can check in any Police station if there is no Immigration in the vicinity, although I have never actually met anyone who has done it. I know a couple that check in by post though.

  16. I'm shocked .. you mean to say that some of these lovely girlies are not telling the whole truth :D:o

Of course they tell lies.............................you've been called a "handsome man" havn't you? :D

  17. OK, I can relate to all of that, but crapping in the field????????????? <deleted>?

My wife did that in Broadstairs :D

If that was the field opposite the crown and thisle at I think I knew her years ago.

Presumably she was pinching cabbages and got took short? :D

    roy gsd

Just to get even, I did the same on Pee Pee island just behind where they shot The Beach. Wifie even stood guard. I suppose if anyone stumbled on it, they'd have thought De Caprio had stayed behind. :o:D

  18. The official number in Surin province alone is 6,000 falangs (number taken from Gov web-site last year), but I think that is a little inflated. I suspect though there are at least 4,500 in our province, with,as you say more moving here every week. In the restaurant we get around 20 new signings in our guest book every week, and I think one can safely say 25% of them are here to stay (at least for a while) And as Dave rightly says (and he should know) it seems every beautiful girl in the area wants a Falang of her own.( or at least part of him :o )

  19. At the moment I am contemplating what to dish up to a certain Dave the Dude when he pops round for a bite to eat next week!

I think i'll give him his favorite ..Toad in the hole with custard!!! :o

    TBWG :D

    Give him my regards

  20. [

and around that waterfall are steps set with very slippery tiles.....I was wandering around there the night of the ThaiVisa party and there was a farang who had just taken a tumble...looked very sorry for himself....hic

Oh..........I didn't know Geordie John was back in town :o

  21. As I could do with a fix of Steak & Kidney!

    Thanks
