  1. I agree that an Android phone may well be over the top for the OP's needs.

But Tukcom currently has (real) Samsung Hero for 399B and an (also real) Android Samsung for 5990B.

You can get the Samsung Fame for under 5500, it has 5MP camera. Standard headphone jack 3.5mm. I don't have it yet but will. I don't use internet on a phone but you never know when it might come in handy..

  2. I'm getting one at SMile Dental Clinic on SOuth Rd nearest to Soi Bua Khao.

The first place I went said my bone was narrow as the tooth has been gone 30+ years. He said no problem, use a smaller implant. Well, it is a bottom molar so I want a full size post.

The Smile place first did a panoramic X-ray, 400 baht. It was very modern, I stood up and put my chin on a rest and the machine hummed and rotated around my head. I remember having to bite on some hard plastic for x-rays long ago.

The dentist is Dr. Chris, speaks ok English. He explained the procedure. He cuts a flap of gum without removing any. Stays to the outer side to avoid tongue and blood vessels. My narrow bone requires some bone to be added. It is freeze-dried horse bone, ground up into a paste. The bone is 7000 baht. The implant with crown is 47000, Healing time of the implant depends on the growth and hardness of my bone so he won't know how long until he drills. It all makes sense to me. He also spotted something on the x-ray that I had seen. Under a filling I have a gap, We both think that should be filled in solid. I go next week.

Also, this is the same place that Dr. Gai did my root canal/crown over a year ago. No problems, knock wood.

  3. I very much doubt that Pattaya makes most of its revenue from shopping. why would a tourist go shopping in Pattaya when there are much better places like Hong Kong or even Bangkok? seems to me that far more is being invested in condos. and who buys condos? I would guess not people commuting to Bangkok or working in Pattaya, but people that have retired or take holidays in Pattaya. and what does Pattaya have that Bangkok doesnt? a beach, and for a while parks by the beach, not much else. sure something like seating in a park doesnt create income but it adds up to making Pattaya a desirable place to retire or holiday. its not the only tropical seaside resort in the world that people have the option of buying condos in. beach venders and jetski scams may make some people in powerful positions a lot of money but it may be the local Thais and the condo investors that end up paying for it in the long run

I wonder how the money is divided in terms of shopping, bar hopping (and associated shopping smile.png), etc. One thing is certain (at least to most posters here): the beach and associated walkway is a valuable asset that is being ruined by "progress" coupled with "idiocy."

I like the wide walkway and I like the vendors that set up for holidays, but I miss the benches and shade. They must want everyone to rent beach chairs.

  4. The Police were disinterested because there was no money in it for them.

The father is 71 and looks old while the children are very young, perhaps that is what triggered the incident.

The alleged kidnapper seems to be a do-gooder and tried to intervene to 'rescue' the children, thinking there was no way the couple were the real parents given their age. With Thailand's notorious reputation as a trafficking hub and destination for pedophiles it appears this woman was trying to act like a heroine, with disastrous consequences.

Doubt it was a serious attempt to kidnap, just an unstable, opinionated woman intervening in a situation she had created of her own making.

Did you read the story? The 71 year old is the kids' grandfather. The kids' father is 36. The mother is young too.

  5. Just wondering how they got your pin. Did you cover the numbers with your other hand as you typed them in? Probably had a camera see you input the numbers and the slot was a skimming machine.

But I can't work out why the guy would hang around annoying you though.

The guy may have put a card scanner where the card goes in, he would remove it before the police (ha ha) came or a bank employee. I always try to use ATMs in a mall, high traffic, and I cover the pad while I key my PIN.

  6. Where is Tukcom ?

And what about 50 baht meal in an aircon environment ? Is that too much to expect ?

Many 7-11's have soup stands in front, about 35 baht for a nice bowl. Sit near the sliding door, you can get pretty good air/con with all the people going in and out. ;)

  7. I had an excellent pancake at Lee's Diner, Soi Diana, across from Areca Lodge. Comes with banana, pineapple, watermelon slices and honey. Big pancake, very thick yet light and delicious. It is 90 baht, and 2 sausages are 30 baht, hot tea 30 baht. They also have pizza, Thai food, western food. The broccoli and shrimp looks good but I have not tried anything but breakfast 3 times. They are open 24 hours, very friendly staff.

  8. I too had a stinky old helmet stolen at Big C south. What on earth are they going to do without. I see free helmets at police tables and bike shops. Why steal old, stinky helmets, I don't think they ever plan on wearing them. Like how often do you see a Thai wear a helmet? They usually keep them in the basket up front and put on quickly when they spot the police.

Don't assume that the thieves are Thai. The only case I heard of here was a falang in the condo. He was punished when the wrong guy caught him.

  9. Where is Tukcom ?

    Tukcom is here: https://maps.google.com/maps?q=pattaya,+tukcom&hl=en&ll=12.924093,100.878777&spn=0.003315,0.005761&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=46.226656,94.394531&t=h&hq=tukcom&hnear=Pattaya,+Chon+Buri,+Thailand&z=18&layer=c&cbll=12.924085,100.87888&panoid=3NmuM5veXQTm-i0Wq39o6Q&cbp=12,217.48,,0,-16.99

You can go to the "Food Park" at BigC Extra (first floor) if you're looking for an air-conditioned environment.

Try the food court in the basement at Tukcom, they have a feeble excuse for air-con. Should get something for 50 baht there, unless your expecting two courses and a large Sing for your money.

Sent from my GT-I9300 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

I went there - Tukcom - Friday and half the stalls were closed. My regular Pad Thai guy no longer sells it.
