  1. i had my first mosey over to this new tesco today, and i too was impressed...... everything i needed for a daily shop was there, and there was plenty of parking outside, and certainly a lot less hassle than getting to the one at market village

there was a few farang in there too, so hopefully if it gets lots of farang customer, it will stock lots of products that farang like..... the bread section was lacking on my visit this morning, but maybe it was the baker's day off

i think combining a visit there, with a fruit and veg run to the market over the road, will help to keep the fridge well stocked.....

i also heard that there was a celebratory coming to do a opening ceremony and raise the profile etc.... myself, plus a lot of the till operators etc were saying they hoped it will be BazilFox cool.png

  2. hey guys.... i took your advice and wrote to VFS and complained to them, asking if the information i had been given had been correct.... i will post back when i hear back......

one more thing if i may guys..... my wife has just had the text saying that her visa application is ready for collection, and a ref no. was given

    2 questions pls......

1 - can we just turn up at the VFS office any time in the next week or so and get our results and returned documents (we live in hua hin you see), or do we need an appointment?

2 - are we able to check online or over the phone today to see if our application has been successful? on the vfs site it allows us to track the application, but only tells us that it is ready for collection, and not the outcome.....

  3. i attended Sirida school on the main road, phetkasem (a little after soi 59 heading south) and they are a good school.... not too sure on how their teaching of thai script is handled, but for the verbal stuff i enjoyed my time there

    the number is 032532650

  4. hey guys - i saw this map of fishing spots in thailand, and thought it would be great if people on here could add to the map too, and make it a complete guide of spots to fish within this great country...... my only problem is, i dont know how to contact the admin guy to allow more locations to be added

    http://bangkokburt.wordpress.com/freshwater-fishing-spots-in-thailand/

anyone know how to contact Burt.... i tried via twitter, but that wouldnt allow me to

  5. well that's a real shame / balls up..... it is my wife applying, and so you guys seem certain that she could have applied for a family visa

the lady definately said to us, as of july 2012, that if the applicant, and husband, were travelling into the UK together, then the wife could not apply for the family visa, and it had to be a general visa.....

i wish i had questioned her, but i just assumed she knew what she was talking about....... now i think about it, it does seem like a crazy rule..... if the rule was that we werent allowed to travel together, then i guess many people would just get the earlier flight, with the wife following on on the next flight..... bugger...... i just hope that my rushed submission on the computer was completed thoroughly, and that we are succesful

if i did want to complain, should i email VFS you think? is there anything they could do about it now, as the application was submitted a week on friday ago?

cheers for taking the time with your thorough and informed responses 7by7 / eff1n2ret / visaplus wai.gifwai.gifwai.gif

  6. even if you are still drunk mate, make sure you go online and change your passwords etc..... this guy sounds like a bit of a pro and i am sure he knows how to gather valuable info from your hard drive and how to use it..... either that, or he will sell it to someone that does

i lost my wallet in bangkok and my credit cards got hammered....... lots of holidays purchased to phuket etc.... more than 300,000 baht

DO IT QUICK MATE JUST IN CASE

  7. hey guys..... just a quick update on our application.....

we made the application a week ago, and when we got to VFS for our appointment the lady told us that the family visa we had applied for was incorrect, and as of last month, if the person applying for the visa is going to be entering the country with her husband, rather than her husband waiting for her in uk, then she has to apply for a visitor visa..... but luckily we could refill in the application online in the office and still keep our original appointment......

we had to pay 250B to use the computer in the VFS centre to re-complete the form, but we were still dealt with the same day, but had to join the back of the queue system.......

so, from our experience, if husband and wife are entering the UK together, then as of July, the person applying for the visa should apply for a visitor visa, not family visa

so i guess we no longer have any right of appeal

  8. Put 400,000 baht in a bank account

    O visa based on marriage

    work permit is included.

is this correct Mike?? i have recently been issued a marriage visa (well extension of stay due to marriage to a thai citizen) and i am pretty sure i have not been issued a work permit..... what else did you need to do to get your work permit? was it difficult / time consuming / expensive?

  9. we used one of the motorbike taxi men, who also owned a pickup....... one run from palu road, to soi 102 was 300B..... he even helped with the lifting

how much gear have you got mate? i dont ever recall seeing one of the big furniture removal vans over here, like i used to see in the UK...

  10. go to the night market next to On Nut BTS station mate....... there is loads of good food there, and there is a good beer bar at the back of the market that is good value and friendly

also over sukhumvit road from there, and walking in the direction of the city for 5 minutes, there is a great all you can eat BBQ place called Best Beef..... can really fill ya boots with great meat for 200B, plus cheap beer :)

  11. all the bars i have seen have been closed or dry today mate...... though i have seen a couple of restaurants with people sitting with bottles of whiskey and sodas

the lady at the bottom of soi 102 is selling her moonshine / lao kao type brews..... the one with frogs in looks quite nice for 10B a shot

  12. Thanks a lot for all your helpful replies guys.... much appreciated

i am sure all your replies are spot on, but i am a little concerned as what to do

the reason for this is because i phoned the UK embassy a couple of weeks back, and the guy i spoke to told me that i DO have to go to the MFA and get the marriage legalised (but maybe we were mis-understanding each other)

so i know this was only one guy on the phone, so i called back today to reconfirm, but i only got put through to an answer machine, and they have not called me back today

i will call back again 2moro, as i am a little concerned on the conflicting information

maybe as 7x7 says i may need a translation of the certificate at a later date, then i should get it done now, but the lagalisation part means 800B for the fee, plus a night in a hotel in bangkok, so if i can avoid doing it at the moment, that would be the option i would choose

what do you think guys, are we 100% sure that my marriage does not need to be legalised any more than what we have done so far at the amphur?

i recently had a mate to stay, and he married a Nigerian 6 years ago in Nigeria...... he asked me if i had been to the embassy to inform them about my marriage, and when i said i hadn't, he said i needed to...... but he was married 6 years ago, so maybe the rules have changed.......

  13. Hey Guys.... the wife has an appoitment with VFS next week, so that she can proceed with her visitor visa application for the UK

all is good, except for one slight worry...... we got married in May, and i have yet to go to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in bangkok to legalise the marriage

i am assuming i need to do this before the application is made for the wife's visa (?)

so far, i know this much.....

i need to attend here :-

    Ministry of Foreign Affairs. (www.mfa.go.th)

    123 Chaeng Wattana Road,

    Laksi District,

    Bangkok

    11120

    Tel. 0– 2575 1056–59, 0–2981 7171

i have read - "the legalisation section (certification of translations) is on the 3rd floor and it opens at 8:00am"

i have also read - "you will need a copy of the photo and ID page of your passport... For a single page document (a marriage affidavit in this case) there's simple form to fill in, with your name and address and signature."

but i have become a little concerned, as our appoitment is next week at VFS....

two things i need help with please

1 - do i need to get the single page marriage certificate translated into english?

2 - once this is done, how long will it take? and how much does it cost for what i presume is the express service, to have the marriage legalised, and all documents returned?

we are thinking of going to bangkok early on monday morning, getting the document translated outside the office building (this was easy enough last time for Affirmation To Marry document), and then getting the marriage legalised.....

is it possible to get this done on monday, and then get a hotel and early night for our tuesday lunchtime appointment at VFS, or are we not leaving enough time / room for error?

    thanks in advance.....

  14. no she is not in korea, she is in our lounge, in thailand.....

i have emailed [email protected], and [email protected] and told them my concerns

but, with the first email address i got an auto response saing they try to answer all emails within 20 working days!!!

the second email bounced back, saying the email address was not recognised (even though the lady on the helpline gave it to me)

i am not sure what to do now...... can you guys just confirm, that one of the types of visas my wife is allowed to apply for, is a family visa?

she has the choice i presume, either family or general visitor...... we both think it is important she applies for the family visa, as this is the true nature of her visit.....

thanks for helping us out guys wai.gif

  15. hi guys, my thai wife is making an application to go to the uk to visit my family. I am her husband, and I am a british citizen

we started the online application form, via the link below at fco . gov . uk website

    https://www.visa4uk.fco.gov.uk/AppProcess/s_VisaRequirements.aspx?check=true

when applying for a family visa, we get the following text, which is implying that we cannot apply for this type of visa

    the text reads -

    Important Information

Only customers who hold a Tier 5 YMS Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) issued by the Consular Services Division in the Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs should proceed to submit an application under this category. Customers who do not hold the required CoS will not be able to complete the application process.

can you tell me what we should do? can we apply for a family visa, even though we don’t have this document outlined from Korea?

I am guessing we should be applying for a family visa, rather than a general visitor visa, but this notification has puzzled us.....

  16. was good to meet you too Kawa mate thumbsup.gif

the reason i fancied the top end of the lake, was one that guy who had been fishing there 13 years said it was good for the carp, and 2, a guy i know who used to guide there, also said that was the place to go... so i figured there must be some truth in it

i didnt get a carp, but catching a redtail catfish was just as good, and i am still buzzing about it now

did you or john get anymore before you packed up?

i hope the trip back down south was ok for ya mate...... PM me next time you are coming up, and i will pop over for a days fishing again

    speak soon mate

  17. thanks for response kawa......

i have talked my wife into spending this evening in the small hotel / rooms that are by the lake, so tonight and 2moro i am going fishing!! fingers crossed

can you tell me whereabouts on the lake your mate was fishing who caught all those carp?? what a great day he had!!

i have been told by a guy who used to be a guide there, that near to the restaurant is a good place to fish for the carp.....
