  1. I've had a couple Thai friends come to visit the US and one friend was denied a visa.

This is a process that must be taken very seriously. Do your homework. There are tons of resources on the web of what to do and what to say. As somebody else said, have a detailed itinerary, have bank statements so she can show she has the money, you can write a sponsor letter, etc. Don't rely solely on replies to this thread on what to do. Do some research.

Also, the general vibe I got while researching, was that you shouldn't mention your boyfriend/girlfriend relationship.

  2. Dragged to the one in central opposite fortune town this week, I don't eat meat but even if I did I would actually expect the food to be cooked for me in a restaurant. Overpriced but full of people, how do they get away with it? The staff sing an awful song at one point, went to s&p while they got through it.

Seriously, you left the restaurant for a short period because of a song they sang? Was it the happy birthday song?

  3. I will not be going to this island or surrounding islands. No desire to ever go to a full moon party. Sounds horrible.

Also, I would only go to Phuket if they came up with affordable mass transit and the beaches continued to remain free of chairs/vendors/etc.

  4. "It's been around 22 years since the taxi fare was adjusted, Minister Prajin Juntong said Saturday.

I seem to remember them raising fares recently......Oh yeah, they did:

taxi fares rose in 2007 - the 35 baht base rate stayed the same, but the cost/km rose, as did the idling charge.

Not complaining though. They're due a rise. Taxis are pretty good, when they agree to take you at all ....

  5. Bangkok Bank HQ office has a big sign in the customer service lobby that says "We Welcome Foreigner Customers". I opened an account there as a tourist last year and had only my passport and a U.S. driver's license (for back-up photo ID). Minimum deposit THB 500. No problem at all. I am very happy with their service and regularly transfer cash from the U.S. that arrives in my account in 72 hours. I have debit and credit cards from them too.

Same experience. Everything was easy and quick at the Silom HQ.

  6. Happy Oktoberfest. Prost!!

Don't worry AA and other programs will be there for you when you're ready to get sober!

lol, wut? I'm no alcoholic, I'm just giving a happy prost to fellow my beer drinkers. I'm currently sitting at my desk drinking a big bottle of ice water.

  7. I am curious as to where almost 60,000 rosewood seedlings suddenly appeared from. I am also curious as to they had originally planned to plant them if this was merely part of an ongoing environmental plan to regrow valuable timber resources .... and what are they going to plant now in that other area which suddenly just lost its allocation of rosewood trees?

No kidding!!! I'm just going to assume they mean 60k trees are in the process of being planted or that 60k trees have been planted since X many years ago.
