Economy Senate Steps Up to Tame Foreign Dominance in Thai E-Commerce
SABloke replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Exactly, local small business are making money - it's just not the business that the government cronies are involved in and hence the fear-mongering. ð -

CCTV Footage Captures Motorcycle Crash on Rama II Road
SABloke replied to Georgealbert's topic in Bangkok News
Seems pretty clear. A young man dangerously crossed in front of one truck before trying to illegally join the main road. His bike then got caught by the side of the truck passing him which pulled him under the wheels, crushing his skull. He's probably done this thousands of times with no issues, however, it just takes that one time - this was unfortunately his time. -

Economy Thai Citizens Demand Government Action as Inflation Skyrockets
SABloke replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Where to cut spending? Thai budget for the special ones = 1 Billion USD. Compare that to the UK special ones = 100 Million USD. Bizarre when comparing the total budgets of each country. As an article last year put it (paraphrased) "The cool billion usd is JUST 1% if the total budget" -
At this point these casinos are looking likey to just be massive laundromats doing a lot of cleaning - how else will they take in money except from dirty clothes? I mean, Thailand potential market is only 10,000 (50 million net requirement) and criminal background checks means basically zero foreigners: Rock up at casino on holiday "Where is your background check?" "Don't have one. Where can I get it?" "Easy, go back to your country and get one" ð

Report Desperate for School Funds, Thai Families Turn to Pawn Shops
SABloke replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
It's been happening for decades, and these articles have been written almost as long. Put this article's title into Google and you'll see variations on a theme going back to 2015 - nothing changes ð -
How do you impose a tariff on a movie? Normally, film crews go to countries and hire local production companies etc. to deal with logistics and operations etc. Then they head back to the US with a bunch of film assets which then goes into post-production in the USA. The film has no intrinsic "value" until the end of all its commercial sales (box office, digital downloads, etc.)

Tourism Thailand Vows to End Dual Pricing Amid Growing Tourist Backlash
SABloke replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I disagree - the dual pricing for foreigners hardly makes a difference. Also, with a Thai DL and/or WP most private companies will give you the local price. Interestingly though, I once visited Bang Pa-In palace (operated by the BRH) and they wouldn't give me the local price (go figure). However, they did publish their income lat the entrance which I appreciated - on the day that I visited the figures for Thais to date was 30 million and foreigners 900 thousand - had the foreigners been charged the local price, it would have been 300 thousand (hardly a big dent in the overall scheme of things). I would assume that similar trends would be noticed at national parks if they published the figures i.e. most income is feom Thais. -
Who is this helping? It's not protecting me as the account holder, since the mobile phone number is the least significant of my security, and if I noticed something suspicious, I would contact the bank (as I've had to do twice with my Kbank Credit card details seamingly being sold by employees - New card that I never used so no chance it was skimmed). The 2022 arbitary date proves that the name is clearly not important since anything before that year is ok - same name ir not.

Genuine question: How do the banks check your SIM name registration? Do they have access to private telecom records? In my case, last month, I updated my address and phone number at the bank (wife's name, they didn't know or ask) and the only extra step was cancelling my mobile banking and registering the new number at the ATM. Haven't received any notification from the bank as of today, so...

Love when articles raise more questions than answers. For those of us that don't know, can someone please explain what "the incident" was - the only allusion in this article is "This incident, which involves a young man from this family driving a costly sedan with little regard for road safety," ð§

Every time I think Thai laws/mandates can't become more ridiculous, the officials go ahead and prove me wrong. How the hell is this supposed to work/be enforced? I have spent countless hours snorkeling - sometimes the depth is less than 2m (I assume, since I don't take a depth gauge with me as I trundle out of my hotel room down to the sea). I don't damage any coral - I love and respect nature. But now I also have to take a bloody life-vest?? For what? I'm not taking one in my suitcase and I assume most hotels don't carry a ton of spare ones (if any at all). Also, this ministerial order claims that I need a life-vest when snorkelling (to prevent drowing?), but if I'm not snorkelling, I can swim freely (no diving course required) and splash away and run along the coral at depths of less than 2m I assume ð

Crime Red Bull Heir at Centre as High-Profile Corruption Verdict Looms
SABloke replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Surely you cannot be guilty of tampering with evidence without some incentive being given to you to tamper. So, I assume the court knows who bribed these guys (otherwise they wouldn't be able to prove tampering and rather just negligence of duty). Therefore, why isn't anyone else being charged in this case i.e. the people that paid the bribes/"requested" the tampering with evidence? -
Thai Cattle Farmers Protest Proposed Import of US Hormone-Treated Beef

New Online Entry Requirement for UK Travelers to Thailand
SABloke replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
I agree, but this will cause so many problems since I suspect many travellers (new and returning ones) will not know about this QR code until check-in. Then they will be like "Can I do it now quickly please?" "No, sorry, you were supposed to do it 3 days ago" totally FUBAR. -
New Online Entry Requirement for UK Travelers to Thailand
SABloke replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Will there be a paper option on arrival for people that aren't aware of this requirement? When one travels to a visa exempt country, one generally doesn't do as much searching online as when one is going to a place that has visa requirements etc. For example, the first time I flew to Thailand I had not heard of the TM6 until the air hostess gave it to me - had I been required to print out and bring my own (equavalent of doing the digital one now) I would've been screwed. -
