  1. I really hate when journalist reference other topics, such as "the subsidy scheme" in this article (which is crucial to understanding the core issue) yet fail to briefly summarise what they are referencing. Readers shouldn't have to go read other articles in order to make sense of a current one🙄
  2. "Surface threats" being foreign tourists wanting to have a look at the aircraft carrier, not knowing it's for Thai eyes only 🙄 Like they seriously think foreign spies are coming to steal the Spanish designed ship's "secrets". Wikipedia is generous calling it "the smallest functioning aircraft carrier in the world." 🤣
  3. Speaking of greed - I just learned of an aquarium in Phuket in the famous mall that literally charges double for tourists. So foreign kids are paying the same 8++ THB as Thai adults. This is a private company so tax is not an excuse (oftened used by national parks etc.). Also, the place is not big from what I read. Absolute shafting!
  4. Would've been nice if the police revealed this "location" - I'd add to my list of places to avoid for now while in Phuket.
  5. Ah, ok - thanks. So the information is linked from the the passport number. Makes the whole QR code side of things a bit moot - I guess the higher ups thought it would make them appear modern, cool and with the times 🤣
  6. So I arrived at DMK with my dutifully created QR Code for the first time since TDAC and 2 things happened (or didn't): Waited in Thai line as usual (kids travelling with me) and when arrived at counter IO told me that since I'm foreign we have to use counter 3 (Diplomat/Priority) lane - no biggie since actually a shorter Q than the Thai one because nobody in it so will go straight there next time, but I thought it must've been due to the QR code and that they (Thai line) didn't have the tool to scan it, so then went to Counter 3. There, the IO didn't ask to see or scan my QR code - it was just business as usual (stamp and through). So what is supposed to happen? Do they normally scam the QR code? If not, what's the point? 🤪
  7. OP mentioned Qatari which is a nationality - you mention "white British" why not just "British". Seems like you're the one focussing on ethnicity, not the OP 🙄
  8. I wonder what a camel herder's employment letter looks like (required for visa purposes)?
  9. With BJT leaving the coalition, we're now stuck with a minority government trying to run things. What could go wrong. FUBAR 🙄
  10. Surely, this has to be a typo. There is no way a feasability study would cost over 1 Billion USD. 🤨
  11. "At first glance, the phrase appears to promote loyalty, solidarity, and a strong organisational bond." What?!? It doesn't appear that way at all "at first glance" - it appears as what it is - an internal motto (not innocuous at all) that says "keep your mouth shut about our corrupt practices - what happens in the RTP stays in the RTP"
  12. If they "ran" Thailand they wouldn't need to flee every now and then. Now there is this one other family...🤫
  13. 500 Baht fines didn't work for helmets, so they raised it to 1,000 Baht - still no significant change in helmet use. So I think the figure is too low - let's make it 10,000 Baht and if that doesn't work let's raise ot to 100,000 Baht! Or, keep it at 500, but do active policing (not sitting at checkpoints) and actually enforce the existing law. 🙄
  14. Good riddance to bad rubbish. If I believed in hell I would wish on him to burn there.

    Grab at DMK

I usually rent a car or book an airport pick-up through the airpot directly when arriving at DMK, but this Saturday I'm arriving at 02:00 and only have a very short trip (15min). I don't want to use local taxis (kids get carsick), but also don't think 600THB for a 15min trip (airport booking) is worth it. Does Grab do pick-ups from the terminal? I know in some place like Samui they're not allowed to go near the terminal but that at Swampy they now have their own little zone/tent set-up. Thanks in advance for any input.
  17. Indeed. Changi had the right idea - smoking areas out in the fresh air.
  18. If they HAD to do it, it would make sense to use the roads in and around Suan Rotfai/Chatuchak: traffic disruption will be less; lots of open land for easy construction of grandstands; tons of transport links.
  19. No need to raise it to 2000. 500 would already have been enough of a deterent IF the police ever did active policing rather than random checkpoints once a month that the community knows the location of. So until they actually start fining people they see breaking the law (including stopping 10 year olds and fining their parents for giving them access to the motorbike etc.), the amount doesn't really mean anything.
  20. Exactly, local small business are making money - it's just not the business that the government cronies are involved in and hence the fear-mongering. 🙄
  21. Sure, if your family member are a bunch of leeches that only come to you for money 🤪
  22. Seems pretty clear. A young man dangerously crossed in front of one truck before trying to illegally join the main road. His bike then got caught by the side of the truck passing him which pulled him under the wheels, crushing his skull. He's probably done this thousands of times with no issues, however, it just takes that one time - this was unfortunately his time.
  23. Would she complain about the lack of white models on the billboards in Lagos?
  24. Ah, yes, because maths is different in "the Thai context" 🤔
  25. I read the opposite - seems like almost no exceptions: "Service establishments" cover all restaurants, so you can basically buy/consume anywhere.
