  2. "the ministry’s inspector Dr Surachet Satitniramai said the director and chief pharmacist at a hospital in Udon Thani [were] just ignorant about having to control the purchase of these pills, he said"

Of course! The 'chief pharmacist', in conjunction with the director, just didn't know how to do his job, and they didn't make a financial killing as a result of this ignorance, did they? passifier.gif

  3. To quote, "that fall outside the competence of our staff." Asif wrote.

Nice to know you have full faith in the 'competence' of your Embassy staff, when you have probably never observed shop floor level of dealings!

Maybe a little further training for your staff would be a good thing, so as to improve upon their incompetence of being able to help with anything 'outside' of their perceived or incompetent remit, as you highlighted? ?

  4. An anti-Yingluck article if I ever saw one...... A litany of negatives, without a redeeming quality....... I wonder which side of the Political fence this writer is on...... Everything from denying her the resounding electoral victory she crafted, to suggesting there is only turmoil in her Cabinet, even though she deftly handled the recent Cabinet reshuffle, and turfed those who were seeking 2nd. opinions after receiving her direction. Not much point in itemizing all the Ms. Y. denigration this guy can muster, as they are self-evident......... An overiding theme however, as is the case with many of these anti-Ms. Y writers, is to create the impression there is.....well.......turmoil.....when that would not be the case if they, who are actually entitled to Governance, were in rightful power if it just wasn't for those dam_n elections. This epistle to contemptuous condescension of Ms. Y. comes out of a sense of political self-importance and inequality.

Why don't you just meet her in a hotel and have done with your infatuation? You're so predictable and boring of late.

Go a step futher, marry the family, and then your biased baggage of posts will actually be worth reading.

  5. The "grey market" uses legal loopholes - including abusing the right of overseas Thais to bring back their cars back to Thailand

So how is the UK supposed to plug Thailands "legal loopholes" and the right of Thais to bring back their cars???

Is this not purely a Thai Legal Import issue???

If it isn't, then I want to import my cars from the UK for the same tax rate as Thais will bring them into Thailand. The Thai govn't wants UK Govn't to help Thais into UK with easy Visas....... how about a bit of thought the other way. Then again, bi-lateral thought from Thai Minsisters is impossible. :(

  6. The price is supposed to discourage abusive behaviors...

But, I can already imagine some hi-so wannabe's pretending to make and receive calls. rolleyes.gif

I remember a flight from Shanghai to Bangkok on Thai Air. I was in business class, and it was just after the first i-Pod had come on the scene.

I got a call from my old friend Jack Palmer from UK, and was so excited I shouted, "Hi-Jack" at the top of my voice!

I was cuffed to my seat for the next 2 hours. :(

  7. As calbts2 wrote, use AEON machines....if you can find one (check their website). I've never been charged a fee and the conversion to THB is done by my bank, not AEON so the rate is the same regardless where I withdraw it.

I think AEON will grow fast here... I went to one of the locations in Chiang Mai yesterday and there was at least 30 people in line (for the two new ATMs). I couldn't believe it... is this because it's the beginning of the month? I decided to wait and go back today.

Curious...Do you not pay ATM fees in Europe? I am quite used to paying a fee if I use another banks ATM in Canada. And some banks charge regardless of whether it's their ATM or not.

Grow fast? AEON has been here a long time, and is well established, with 2.86 million Thai credit card users already.

It's an excellent company, and during the floods actually went out of its way to call my wife and say interest had been suspended and she didn't need to make a payment for 6 months!

Ever heard of Visa or Mastercard doing such? No way!

  8. Walk up 32 stories to hang yourself while sitting?

Paul...you nailed it. That certainly does raise some interesting questions...however, if this is a suicide, none of us can ever know what "makes sense" in that persons mind... really ... always sad to read in a land where so many come with dreams of happy days.

People live in any land with dreams and still commit suicide. Why would it be any different in Thailand? Coming here, or comitting suicide here, has little to do with attachment to being here. The inevitable was on the cards anyway. Pre-dispositon to such doesn't pend location, but polar regions.

  9. It would be nice, once and for all, to see goods exported with little labels on the bottom "Made in Myanmar", when a certain country close to home used to do, but when the goods were still made in Myanmar, prior to local import and then export, at profits.

Myanmar, and Laos for that matter, have a lot of craftsmanship skills to offer, much more than Thailand has. It would be a great exposure for these to be revealed, especially as ASEAN approaches, and these countries are permitted to show such, not only in Asia but for the world to see, and invest in for the benefit of these, so far, hidden countries. Don't get me wrong, I am all for Thailand too, but equality is also a factor in balancing realities.

  10. For those of us who can play, ignoring your derogatory comment which was removed, then why shouldn't we have a play?

I made no derogatory comment, I merely pointed out that it was not a good idea to pronounce an investment 'profitable' until that profit has been achieved. Also I would not want to own any immovable assets in a country where I have no right to reside.

Nor would I want to own any condo in a city where foreigners buy at a higher price than locals, developers are constantly building, and the general population prefer to buy 'new'.

If you look at the one person on this thread who has made a profit, being a Thai makes the risk significantly less.

My wife with her house, 25 rai of farmland and 50 rai of forest is also in an entirely different position, as a Thai, and I am more than happy to live there with her.

You said I WOULD be ripped off, but little do you know my circumstances or my time here also, and I have my happy lot too!

Forgetting that, how about the profitable current value before resale? If you think it a myth, then fine. That's your end of the stick, and still no bones of contention. However, the stats are correct, my wife is educated (Master's degree and Ajarn as University), and also has her lot of farm fields and forest that will eventually become assets for building, but prob not in our time.

IF you have no right to reside here, but know darned well you will be here for the long term forseeable future, then all good. Same as me too. So initial judgements maybe capped now, given your consent, or we just go on to argue the laws, by-laws and unknowns of farang that you perceive have been here 4 or 5 months? We're not all stupid Herr Tom. ;)

  11. So far we have had 1 person on the thread making a real BAHT profit from buying and selling a condo.

That doesn't seem a very promising start.

But we haven't had anyone who's made a loss either. Most haven't bought, so we can't really say whether that was good or bad for them.

Many people who make a loss won't admit it.

Many who fail to sell their property, convince themselves they haven't made a loss.

Many who own a depreciating asset, fail to acknowledge that fact, or are in denial.

Many don't understand how hard it is to sell a second hand condo in Thailand.

The only way to tell if a profit is to be made, is from those who actually bought and sold, only one so far.

I think you are missing a basic point here.

If all of your assets are in 1 basket, regarding a single property such as a single condo, then forget investing.

If you have 5% of your assets to play with, and win or lose at a pitch and toss, and it has no impedence on your net worth, then by all means play.

You write as if you would walk into Siam Paragon and ask, "How much is that?"

If you need to do that, then by all means don't stake a play in property.

For those of us who can play, ignoring your derogatory comment which was removed, then why shouldn't we have a play?

I made a simple gesture of a little I had invested in, and your reaction was 'get ripped off by all means.'

It seems paramount to yourself that investing in property, be it long term or short term is negligent.

Tell me that it isn't in any major Capital city of the world. If one can play the market, with no essential deficit to one's own, then play it!

Quite often, you would be surprised, and as I posted originally, it purely depends upon where and how much you invest and what projected return you want. Properties are also tax-havens..... but then you wouldn't entertain that idea.. could you?

  12. Said above that he was a SA national. That might be the first clue.

Well, yes and no. It was 'acquired'.

Italian media reported that Thailand had agreed to his extradition to Italy but that his lawyers said he was a South African national, even though he had assumed it under another identity.

So one can purchase a SA nationality that easily and avoid getting extradited. Interesting.

Would be interesting to see what can be achieved at KhaoSan Rd. regarding...... Damned inferno - the guy's been here before... 555

  13. Wanted mafia boss arrested in Thailand

It's a shame the reciprocal didn't happen in Italy! wink.png

What Thai mafia boss is hiding out in Italy? Name, please.

Me thinks you're a few weeks late, regarding this issue. sad.png
