  1. The system (corruption) is too endemic now and repairing it would take a revolution. The police have too much power here and you have no recourse without suffering some consequenses. They need to start with the basics first. Policemen not wearing helmets when riding their bikes, lead by example. If a policeman in our countries was blatently seen thumbing his nose at the law it would make every newspaper in the country. The Farang is always guilty. The police decide these things and innocent or not you have no recourse. If they say you caused the accident and you know you didn't if you stick to your guns you are likely to wait in the police lock up until a court case can be arranged. This could be indefinate.

How can you fix the big things when you can't fix the small things. We all know of someone who has been "wronged" by the law here. The police's job is not to make the law but to uphold it, fairly. Thais have no respect for the law whatsoever and it is no surprise.

Yeah it's great to be able to slip someone a few baht to get what you want but it is a double edged sword and you can't have your cake and eat it. I would be a lier if I said I hadn't done it. Personally I would rather see it go the other way. I like to know where I stand and not leave thing s up to chance and who paid the most first.

Unfortunately these things start at the top of the tree not the bottom. It will never happen, but until it does Thai society and the peoples rights will always be compromised.

I guess we just accept it for what it is and just "play the game" or move on. The problem with that is we also then become part of the problem.

    My 2 cents worth

Last time I got stopped by BIB for alledgedly speeding, even though he didn't have a radar gun but simply saw a farang driving a car, he asked me for 1,700 baht. I said to him you're having a larrfff, in Thai. He reduced his price to 800 Bhat when he knew I spoke Thai.

I asked him for the ticket, and that I'd like to duly pay it at the relevant police station to his superior.

    Guess what??

    Hum......

I went on my way! ;)

  2. Thaksin never liesgiggle.gif

What particular one are you referring to ?? or is this a double edged post??

Could be the unemployed man, or it could be 'puss in boots'. I think I'd go for both, as puss in boots ( Le Chat Botté) always uses trickery and deceit to gain power, wealth, and the hand of a princess in marriage for his penniless and low-born master. In modern today roles changed, and puss in Burberry boots became female, acting on behalf of her master.

Master is certainly close to being penniless nowadays, and the puss that fills the role of boots doesn't know a limp from a kick. giggle.gif

Bless her little cotton socks.... ooops let's not go there. (said about someone, especially an adult, when you are pretending that you like them) smile.png

Edit: sorry for the puss in boots analogy, but then what would you get if you squeezed her ears together? rolleyes.gif

  3. I have never seen any country amend criminal law through emergency decree

What a classic line, summing up the absurdity of the current Thai political scene. Justice beholden to majority vote. I have pointed this out many times to people not only on this forum, but to my Thai friends also and to my wife's family in the village: if I rape your daughter, but give 51% of the people free stuff so they like me, does that mean the rape of your daughter was democracy?

Rule of law is the very basis of democracy, and Thailand doesn't have it. Voting is irrelevant until it can be established. Otherwise, you get the abomination we have today, which is leading nowhere but civil war.

And what was the response to your metaphorical truth?

  4. Surely all he has to do is to prove where he WAS rather than tell us where he was not.

I don't think he can remember which passport he uses, never mind where he is. ... .

He says, "No I did not", when there are many sources say he did. Of course, the man never lies. Maybe he just had a cold, took a flu tablet or two from his matey Chalerm, and ended up high in the sky falling down locally in Malaysia? :o (pseudo-everdream).. ;)

  5. "Thaksin urged all sides to let bygones be bygones and work together to bring peace back to the restless region."

    ------

The underlying message in that is let bygones be bygones and bring me back to a restless country, so I can fix it.

The country wouldn't be so restless if you Mr T, as exiled, would stop interferring in matters that a 'simple unemployed man' is not permitted to do.

You've done it this time fella. You should be calling controllers now, on behalf of your honourable family, "NASA, we have a problem!" giggle.gif

  6. The whole Southern insurgency thing is complex and beyond meaningfull, superficial commentary here, but use of it for making silly little political points in the above article is noted. Everything from shouting out in bold heading the 'fugitive' terminology, hoping to project felonious innuendo onto a political adversary, and using 1/3 of the article to reverentially quote a political leader with truly culpable baggage that would be congruent with the 'fugitive' moniker, demonstrates subtle intent perhaps not noticeable to many.

Fact - He is indeed a known fugitive from the Thai Justice System

Fact - He is a known liar

    What else need be said?

Only that he has been comfort-eating a lot over the last 4 years.

You don't expect him to be eating fish and rice do you?

His obesity is due to him having to eat his own words, a lot! giggle.gif

  7. I never knew there were so many thick farangs who arrived ignorantly into Thailand to support a body who is obviously a dictator.

Follow the red sheep, and end in the pool of blood. You wanna go that way, then don't look for farang help when you are in dire circumstances!

Go follow the silence of the lambs, until they bite you.

Mr T steps on foot on Thai soil and you are a target. Heed my words. There's more people to fight against than the reds believe for.

Enjoy your Song Khran getting your brain washed, more than it has been already.

I thought all farangs were more insightful, but obviously there's a crowd of dimwits who believe they know it all!

Shame. Cos I won't be picking up your bones when the shit hits the fan!

  8. Another myth. The cleverer male spiders work out which female spider is likely to eat them after sex and avoid them. A lesson quite apt in this LoS (if you take "eat" as in "devour" that is

Sadly those paid minions along with the myopic supporters of Thaksin that flock to have Thaksin declared innocent of any wrong doing are the less clever members of society, they will indeed or in fact already have fallen prey to the myth of Thaksins innocence and his phony belief in Democracy.

  9. Meab (#23 above) questioned the info. that 400.00 baht is insufficient for Angkor Wat....... I know it is what they pay for the bus there and back...... I checked my source and learned that Red Shirts have free access to Angkor Wat that day, hence the total cost remains at 400.00 baht, other than food....................... At the border things have also been streamlined....................... Authorities have already been provided names of passengers according to specific busses.

For the criminal that is the brother of the Prime Minister. Miracle Thailand, what can you say.

Falangs will not get into ankor free So you will pay about 500 a day and pay for room 1000 at least, And 400 baht will not cover the gas, And I know thaksin will not provide one baht of his own money so who is paying ?

You may be right about Farangs. I will find out......... There is no room involved. Depart at 5:00 AM............ The article talks about a 7,000.00 baht price. I think that may be for a travel agency program involving good hotels. .......................The contracts with the bus companies have been finalized, and cost per person set at 400.00 Baht......................... You are correct, no Thaksin money is involved. ...............So that is it. Nothing to add. That is the way it is. My sources are the organizers and there is no need for them to misrepresent anything to me.............But never mind all that......have a Stanley Cup hockey pool to prepare for. Won it last year so have a reputation to defend. ......Go Calgary Flames!.........Oops, they missed the play-offs.

Narcissim is a serious illness, which if undealt with may lead to a premature death!

  11. The irony of the Red Shirts getting a cold shoulder from the People's Republic of Laos and instead being warmly received by Cambodia, a country ruled by a thinly veiled dictator that came to power through a murderous coup more than 10 years ago is quite staggering. I guess Red Shirts and their misguided supporters are very good at cognitive dissonance.

I traveled through Cambodia just before the last election and talked to as many people as possible about Thai politics and got a resounding consensus of hatred for the Abhisit dictatorship.

    The Abhisit dictatorship? :o ..... you're having a larrfff.

How many was as many as possible, with your language? 2? 3?

Hear say is what you write...... nothing of valid context!

  13. "The professor also holds the position of the university's associate dean for research and academics and is the leader of the newly established Network of University Employees"

    .

"....................... and the reason behind this was bad governance by university administrators and the Education Ministry turning a blind eye"

Everytime I see the word "network' in airing group grievances of any kind, I see the organizational arm of the PAD. So all-of-a-sudden, these questionable problems are the making of this new Govt. and its' 'blind Education Ministry"?........ Having taught at a Rajabhat University in the past, I did not see or hear about any of these compensation problems, in fact quite the opposite......... So the intent of this so-called 'network' needs to be carefully scrutinized as to its' motivations......... I'm sure normal channels of pay and benefits administration are available to address these issues, which use comparative analysis during their compensation reviews. Are these people disadvantaged compared to their peers elsewhere? Such research is readily available rendering protestations to the contrary subject to easy diagnosis .......... Motivation?

You would have to be a complete idiot to think

Thai teachers received anywhere near the same as a Farong teacher. Beside this has nothing to do with PAD it has been going on munch longer than PAD

Well my Thai wife earns double of the foreign english teacher, and so do most of the other Thai staff.

I don't believe you for one second. That is complete rubbish, and you know it!

Unless, of course, you think foreign teachers earn 7,000 a month.

Crock of shi*, if I ever read it.

  14. Same as in any country, "I you go into teaching for the money then you are your worst own fool!"

Teaching gives much greater recompense when you see results that reflect your own work and efforts.

There are few jobs which give live and varied responses as a teacher may receive.

If you're in it for the money, then you are in the wrong job!
