  1. Last it was the yellow shirts now the red shirts.I guess if we mix them it will be the orange shirts next. The wife was telling me that the red shirts are being picked up by bus in the villages and are getting paid to protest. For just a body to stand around to make the crowd larger they get 200thb.To really particapate carry signs scream and yell 200-500thb.If you are a leader of a large group about 2000thb.Supossadly the money is from Toxin. Not much different then the yellow shirts before.

  2. No she is not the greatest cook around.I do most of the cooking,I enjoy it.Over the years she has been able to get better and find a few things that do taste very good. She has been studing the internet for recipes and it seems to be working out for us.

  3. We just ordered a Honda Jazz a couple of days ago and delivery will be in about 8 weeks. The dealer did have one in the showroom that we could have taken immediately but it wasn't the color we wanted so decided to wait. So it is possible to get a new car without the wait if you happen to like what they have avaiable.

Do you know if your Honda Jazz is being built in India,Japan or Thailand?

  4. Just soak in enough warm water to cover them.Put a plate or something to hold them under the water, because they will float.Depending on the mushroom and how old they are will determane how long to soak, from 10-30 minutes.Yes squeeze out the excess water and use it in the reciepe.

  5. Not exactly on topic, but has anyone who has had a breast augmentation heard about the necessity to daily massage the breasts, or more precisely the implants, so that no scar tissue is built?

(and NO, I don't need anyone to do this massage :o )

Yes my ex had implants, after the divorce,I hate them natural is the only way,you must massage them. She thought it would help her self esteem and to get a man.Did not work.About 4 years later one of them broke,She had no money or a man to help with the cost of fixing it so there she is with one 36D and one saging 32B.With scar tissue all around the areola. Not because of faluir to massage though.Because the areola was removed and then replaced to help with the raising of the breast. The part about massage has to do with keeping them from getting hard. They are placed under the muscle and if not massaged often, wich you can do yourself by the way,the muscle will get very hard and also the implants will not stay in the correct position.

  6. I would imagine that if you tried to stuff a whole duck down your throat at the same time as breast feeding or not,you could possible die a slow death. But then again the positive would be on the other side,IF you tam boon on a reagular basis you would be reborn a happier and better person. :o

  7. I do not have a single favorite fruit.I enjoy all fruit. Here are some photos of some of the fruits that we do grow in our little garden.Except the durian that was bought. The white dragon fruit is not as sweet as the red but we do not have any of them right know. The farang is the biggest that we have ever grown. Two of the trees just decided to grow giant farangs this year.Tha jackfruit in the photo was the biggest one we have ever had at about 19kilo!We also grow 5 different types of bannans, can never have enough of them. And 3 types of mangos.Enjoy all fruit, it is good for your health. :o:D

  8. Hadrian1,

With the kapow, bai manglag and this new purple basil(photo attached) we use seeds direct to the soil and it takes about 2-4 weeks to get the plants growing good.If we germinate them in the grow house it is better and you will get a better return, but that takes more work. With horapa we just take a piece of the growing basil and place it in water upright and wait for it to grow roots, then plant direct to the ground. We will try this with the new purple basil that we have started,it should work fine.Only time wil tell. The new purple basil is sweet and has an anisette flavor to it.The vietnames seem to like this better in "pho" then the other basil. At least here in the US.

  9. Yes, I eat it but this is one way people get worms and it is common for Thai people to eat deworming pills sometimes on the assumption that they probably have them. So eat flower pots, accept you have gone native and say hello to the worms. Sorry.

Yes of course I eat the vegtables that come with the meal of laab or nam tok. They are part of the meal and add minerals and vitamins to the meal.

Jingthing,Where did you get the idea of getting worms from eating vegtables? Also the idea that it is common for Thai's to eat deworming pills? Those are things that I have never heard of in Thailand.

  10. I got ripped off! My GF asked me for 16,000 baht for a buffalo! :o

Whats that zaphodbeeblebrox ? You said welcome to Thailand!

As to tenderizing beef here is a very quick way.If you use sliced beef mix some baking soda and water together to make a runny liquid.Put the beef in for no more then 5 min.Take the beef out and stir fry ,it will be very tender. That is what many of the Chinese do with cheap cuts of beef.

  11. No offense hank69 but you are nuts :D If you go just make sure you bring an extra drive belt. For such a long trip I wouild think it will wear out.Oh just remember you still have to drive back. :D Good luck and enjoy the ride.It really does sound like a great way to meet and greet the Thai people and see the country. :o

  12. Toasted,Here is a food site that has downloadable cooking videos. They are not the best but if you know how to cook you should have no problem cooking some of the recipes. They are from the street which is why I like them so much.Look at the top of the page for the link to cooking videos.

  13. I hope a few TV readers can help here. I correspond with a well educated Thai guy who wants to improve his English language skills. At work, he only mixes with fellow Thais.

He has received a scholarship to study English in India but admits he would rather study in USA or Australia. He will have chance to study in Australia if he can pass TOEFL or IELTS exams which are quite difficult for him.

On his sugestion, I corect his emails (like a school teacher) to improve his English to the level of a native speaker. He wants to know if I could recommend a few websites to improve his English.

I am thinking of Australian news websites, such as news.com.au which are written in simple English.

    Any suggestions welcome.

    Peter

Got a few of them here that the wife likes to use.

  14. The years I lived in Thailand as a child I had two live in nanny/housekeepers,they are sisters and from Issan. When I lived in Bangkok I went to ISB as did my sister and brother and we had a good education and good memories of that time.I think that is why as an adult I could never get my love for Thailand and its people out of my mind.So I guess that is my curse,I married a beautiful woman from Issan and had kids and am living a beautiful and happy life.So there. :o

Glad things turned out well for you.

I am Thai, born in Isaan, actually, but grew up in the States and travelled much. The first few years of my life was in the care of two Isaan nannies. My parents were busy professors. You got lucky. My two nannies were so mean I can remember them 38 years later. Once my parents were gone, I was yelled at, pushed, pinched ( the liked to grab a fold of skin and twist till you scream ) and ridiculed in coarse Isaan language. I was too little to know how to articulate what was happening to my parents. The other nannies around our neighborhood were the same.

I know it is debatable, but little or no education, coupled with a hard life, IMO, DOES make a difference in people's treatment of others. I soiled my pants as a small child and instead of helping me go potty, they stood me there and mocked me, parading me around for ridicule, without cleaning me up. Refused to let me bathe. Kept away food. etc... The only Isaan nannies I've seen were coarse and didn't care about dangerous situations, like most in the west. Nannies come cheap. Just go elsewhere if fired.

I know others out there have had great nannies from Isaan but as an Isaan born woman, having been there and seen it myself as a child, I would never consider an Isaan nanny. Luckily, I don't have to.

That said, good for you!icon1.gif I probably got the worse of the bunch.icon9.gif

Sorry to hear that you had such a "ruff" life with a nanny.Takeing a guess I would think that because you where Thai and from Issan they may have been jelous of your good life. Not excusing the way that you where treated but in their mind who knows.Just remember, what goes around comes around!!!That should help in forgeting about them.

Hey Sam125 just try and complain to the manager in a Thai theater and see where it gets you.You really made me laugh with that one. :D:D:D:D:wai::P :jerk:

  15. Not trying to put you off, but the guy did ask about Isaan, not Hua Hin. It's a bit like someone asking about Scotland, and answering " Yeah Wales is great" :o:D

Isaan is vast, probaly about 1/3 rd of Thailand ( one more reason why it seems crazy just to have one forum on it), but I would disagree that the best center to see it is Korat. More East is better, Buriram,Surin, Sisaket or Ubon. Buriram is a small town, but big province, whereas Surin is a larger town, with a pretty good night life. Sisaket is much the same as Buriram. Ubon is a large city, but as mentioned about Korat, has great outlying attractions. If you want to see parks and waterfalls, cave paintings,go horse riding, then I would suggest you head for the Kong Chiam area of Ubon, on the Mekhong. There you can bathe in luxury at the Kong Chiam Toshang resort, or settle for one of the 20 odd family guest houses in the town. From here you can see everything the area has to offer. Here is also a cluster of great restaurants, one of which offers you a boat ride into Laos, where you can land and wander through the local village, which comprises of about thirty duty free shops. There is a small immigration post there which charges you around 60 ฿ for a two or three hour stay. To enter Laos properly , Chong Mek border crossing is only 20 kms away. You can also go to " Little Pattaya" a collection of restaurants on the edge of the Sriithon resorvoir. By the way, the tables are IN the resorvoir.

Back to Surin and Buriram if it's Temples, silk weaving, silverware, baskerty, and Elephants that interest you.

For more, with some pics, click on http://www.farangconnection.com. There are links to other great sites in the area from there.

Never been to the Kong Chiam area before. Thanks to you I now have another trip planed. It sounds like a place that the family and I would enjoy. Thanks :D
