  1. All these banks have a sign that no helmets are allowed, they also have a security man at the door (I guess with no gun). Surely they could 'lock down' when someone walks in with a full face helmet. Seems obvious to me, but hey this is Thailand.

I live in Isan and all the banks have an armed Pol Sgt Major as a guard but I'm not suggesting that is a deterrent. Additionally, I would not use a bank where I had to buzz to get in, I far prefer the "welcome handsome man" reception

At my local bank (not KBank) we have a security Guard/Doorman and an armed semi retired Copper who obiously has photo's of his boss (to get the gig) who sits around reading the paper etc.

I am trying not to be sarcastic (but what the hell) they both are very courtious and we allways exchange pleasantries... BUT, put'em both in a wet paper Bag and take an extra couple of minutes to conduct the buisness at hand.

  2. hahahaha, maybe if the thai drivers actually knew the road rules or had a license it might be better. Considering most thai drivers only care about themselves and what they want to do, trying to drive by the rules here is almost impossible. Double lines on a blind corner mean go fast when you cross over them, the cars coming the other way will go off the road for you, what a joke. I have to admit though, I am getting used to it but it would be nice if they understood they need to stop at red lights.

I think you have Nailed it here,

The one I would like to try in the 100-110 zone (if i had a death wish) is the Flashing of the head lights which indicates I am comming through and not stopping, used frequently in the (any) city.

  3. "She is new." She has to call up Brother Number One to find out what to do. If this is so, how on earth can a country that takes itself seriously end up with her as Prime Minister?

It's an embarrassment to all thinking Thais, and they certainly made a point of that at the rally last Sunday.

Thaksin's interview has added more to the humiliation of the Thai people. And he has no idea of how outrageous his comments are.

    Something's gotta give.

Actually the humiliation in the first instance is for Yingluck. He knows that the establishment is is prepared to live with Yingluck as the PM and the backing down from putting Jatuporn in the cabinet will have strengthened her position. So what better than to announce that she is under his direction, sorry advice, and publicly pull her down a notch.

It's got to be a severe loss of Face for Yingluck too,she must be fuming.

I liked the bit about her( first order of buisness?) after being installed in 2011 was to restore his Thai Passport . nice of him to publicly thank her.

  4. But ministers in Laos say studies have already been done, and consultants they hired said there were no major negative impacts for the river.

Gee Really? The consultants hired by the Lao Government said everything will be hunky dory. I would imagine an independent consulting Firm might have a different opinion. Actually I believe many experts have already chimed in and believe it could possibly be a eco disaster, as most dams are that block natural migration routs. Example: California and Oregon. massive decline in salmon populations, after dams were built. Many if not all of those have these fish ladders integrated in these projects.

The consultants hired for this project were independent foreign experts.

I might be having a seniors moment but I cant seem to find who are/were the Foreign Experts ?
