The coffee shop sit down area was closed months ago (apparently illegal), however to the left they moved there which no one bothers with. So they killed a  successful area kinda like they did with khao san road

That sucks.  The main thing i liked was going looking at the view then sitting with a coffee and enjoying the view and people watching

If you look at todays news from the Pattaya mayor. You will see that he has canceled all new year celebration. That's on the internet Thai news. In English. It's still open as of today, but no fireworks ETC. Said it would be impossible to control crowds. There are other bits. That is on U/Tube fabulous 103fm. News flash. And before peeps say it's B/S go look.

Thanks but they still have not closed the beach and it is still a break from Pathum Thani and BKK

So my plans might change depending on the virus, but I plan to head to Pattaya in early January.

    Will probably take the girlfriend.

    I’m looking for recommendations on:

    - what is the absolute best restaurant in Pattaya, higher end/fine dining (if possible)

    - Best place for an English breakfast?

    - Best place for selection of beers (I like imported/craft beers)

    - Good day time activity to take the girlfriend and her niece

I'll be staying at the Dusit Thani but I have a car so transport is not a problem.

    Thank you

    Alcazar is an interesting show

also I don't know the name of it but there is a look out point that the navy has a sop at that is a great place to go to not sure if shops are open but if they are it is a nice place to stop and have a coffee.

I am going for New Years if they do not close the place with lockdown and will let you know.

That will never happen because that`s just a bad idea and not at least,a very booooooring concept ???? !

I agreee oving the bars and such away is a bad idea but moving them off the beach. demolishing the businesses tht are encraoching on the water on walking street(are they there legally) and rebuilding walking street would not be a bad idea.  open up some shops that cater to families open up make the water side a promenade with seafood restaurants that are open air and that you do not have to wakl by the thai boxing and bar gilrs.  Make it a place for families and couples.  Open up some of the bars for dancing and such.  There are enough Bars witrh bargirls outiside of walking street that it is  no longer needed.

This is something that happens in every city in the world. eventually the tourism changes.  Yonge street in Toronto times square in New York. are a few

True, the old station managed just fine with the minimal long distance traffic so all will be good for a while.

When the Red Line opens properly it will be a whole different ball game, it's the terminus too.

everyone I talk to seems to agree the smart thing would have been to redirect it to the big field area near FuturePark. but that would have meant leaving the SRT the way it was or redirecting it.

All being said I think that there is going to be a huge problem there is no parking or room for taxis or minivans.

They have the same issues at Khot Kut but at least it is on a main road.

As Pattaya`s biggest tourist attraction,Walking Street will return to life again, count on that.

I have no doubt that Walking street wil lsurvive but I do not think it will be the sex center that it was.  Thise businesses were already crying about lack of customers before COVID.

I think it will survive but it will be a more family friendly location.

even working as a teacher working in schools I found they were always last minute announcements, (and not just holidays, Parents Meetings, et al) they are scared to put dates on paper to the main part in case something makes them change the dates and they lose face, or so it appeared to me.

Yeah I was there when I taught in schools.  Show up and they tell you that you are not teaching today or that your classes have been cancelled because they have a sports day or something.

In this case though it is not the schools problem it is the GOVERNMENT not announcing anything yet.  It will be interesting for schools as if they do only the 3 days before then we are looking at kids and businesses supposedly open for 1 day.

    Figure the odds.

Other than whats on the Calender, no.

With all the holidays they have been handing out New Years should be interesting?  It is interesting also that none of the schools have said anything yet so I guess we will wait until the last minute announcement LOL

  9. Pattaya like a lot of cities will be reborn and rise like the Phoenix.  The problem now is that people have ro realize that what was working (?) is not going to work in the future.

Then they have to let the people close the businesses and start to sell the properties.

Pattaya has gone back to what it was Prior to the late 60's it is a place for Thais to go to on the weekend to get some sun and sand and out of BKK.

People will start redesigning what they sell or provide to those tourists and people that own property are going to have to either sell or readjust what they charge.  They can no longer charge the high rents.

I think you missed the point that the government has barely given any type of stimulus to the people, and what they have is a pittance compared to what the Government workers are still earning.  Cutting people off and limiting them in what they can spend on some of these schemes they have put in place is just pathetic.  Then to top it off you have the businesses that are providing the service, where the Government pays them to be a supplier, are raising there prices in order to make more money and yet the people using the scheme are getting less.  Boggles the mind actually.

They have always made less than government workers and government workers always have a job in any country.  That is why so many attempt to get those jobs (supposedly set for life)

Reading all the international papers it is the same issue all over the world.

The challenge that governments have is where to get the money to pay these people and support the businesses.  It is great to say that these businesses should get money to support them but if the government said that we are gong to give every business10,000 baht a month for the next year and have decided that in order to pay for it we are going to raise the taxes on Thais by 10%  Month and charge all foreigners applying for a 90 day report 10,000 baht for every 90 days would you still think it was a great idea.
