  1. Regardless of his personal life or his war mongering he did a very great deal of good for the gay community in the UK.

He repealed Section 28 - a nasty piece of homophobic law.

He equalised he age of consent with heterosexuals.

He made employer discrimination against gays illegal

He started the whole civil partnership thing.

The ban on being gay in the military ended during his tenure as PM.

Not bad for a Roman Catholic!

he only did it for the gay vote

AS the last ONS survey (in 2011) found that approximately 1.5% of the population of the UK are gay I suspect that he probably lost far more votes than he gained. Ever occurred to you that he did it simply because he thought it was the right thing to do?

"Ever occurred to you that he did it simply because he thought it was the right thing to do?"

Of course,he obviously did not think Imperialism and mass murder is not quite the moral or " right thing to do". But then, all the gay community is ever concerned about ,or even aware of, is .....

Boy people what is the problem? put money in bank if you don't have the money you don't have the money to live here stay in home country geez. simple. Got enough cheap charlies and crooks here as it is.

Just because the OP does not have 800,000 baht or 65,000 per month does not mean that he is either a cheap charlie or a crook. Many of us live here on way under that figure.........legally I might add.

It annoys me sometimes that here on TV many posters think that just because they have a bucket load of cash or big pensions that they are the only ones worthy of being able to stay here. We are all contributing to the Thai economy every day no matter how small or great so please get off your high horses.

How can you live here legally if you don't have 800,000 Baht or 65,000 Baht.

I have to show it to get my extension.

And NO i am not a rich man.

    Obviously you are.

Yes, I work here legally...........I am not a retiree yet. That's next year for me.

Well, good luck, then. (And you have been a lucky man.) I will never be able to retire. will have to do some kind of work until the day I die.

How can it be obvious that he is rich??? In my home country 65k a month would probably be the lowest monthly salary in the whole country. And you would get social welfare every month with that income.

And the 65k is before tax. So in many countries you will only have 45k left to spend.

Well, goody for you. But many of us Americans are actually very poor now. Life is not like it was in the 1960's-70's.

  6. So it seems that things are back to normal now, right? People are able to go on visa runs get the usual 30 day visa exempt entry?

My double entry visa can only be extended another 30 days from Sept. 18 to Oct. 18, but I have another 2 months left on my return ticket to the U.S.A. so I need to know if I will be able to get 2 more 30 day visa exempt entries.

To Wardje: I have never heard of Kap Choeng before. How does it compare with Ban Laem and Poipet?

  7. This is straight out of the military propaganda playbook. 20% variation in price spreads. Lol

These blokes are so 1950 its incredible. Next it will be the dangers of communism. Please rewrite your playbook.

The comment sounds like communist/redshirt propaganda......

The comment sounds like fascist yellow propaganda!

  9. Why don't these people just retire gracefully and prune their roses like other old men do ? Until all these old farts are removed from the political scene to be replaced by young men with fresh idea's, this country will never move forward in a constructive way.

    "young men with fresh idea's,"

Oh yes, you young men are always so full of fresh ideas (wink wink).

No, but you ARE full of something else if you fall for such meaningless nonsense.

  10. Trust me. Nothing is going to happen to Suthep and his gang. The army is on the same side with them. This is just a show. This is their definition of the word 'neutral'. Just wait and see.

That's right. The Yellows and their corrupt cops and military official leaders obviously just want to take over the government. So many Thais ( and foreigners here too) are so damned gullible to fall for these gangsters and their talk of Democracy.

  11. It is strange how none of you seem to realise that there are still some(albeit a very small percentage) of young people here ,and in other countries, who have fortunately not been very westernised with this idiotic Gay/Hetero either/or mentality. Maybe a country boy from Isaan.

He might just be a very friendly person. Why does it matter to you?

  12. How about guys who identified as straight and had families but found out they were gay when they were in their 40s or 50s? I know some of those too.

Another interesting point (as I have no idea) ... I sort of thought that Gays knew early where attraction lies.

That said, my mind is open and happy to receive the comments as such.

Some know early on, others don't. I believe it has to do with the place and the way you were brought up. If you grow up in a world in which homosexuality does not exist and you don't see it anywhere, you wouldn't likely admit it to yourself. If you see and hear of other gay people, it is more likely that you join them and develop a self-confidence about it.

Keep in mind that anybody who finds out in his sixties (ten years ago) that he is gay, grew up in a totally different time from us. Not only was it normal even in the west to have discriminating laws, there was also a lot less of TV and certainly no internet when these people grew up.

Gee, I know I first thought that I was the only gay in the world when I noticed that I was different, but at least I grew up in a family environment that allowed me to have thoughts that were out-of-the-box, so I didn't feel bad about it but became curious whether there were other young men like me. Turned out there were.

Oh, nonsense! Things were so much better in the 1970's than now. Believe me,child.

  13. I hope I'm not hijacking this thread, but I think my question is relevant to some of the info given above (and no doubt it's been discussed elsewhere - it's just that I have not seen it). Many people use the all-inclusive words "gay" and "straight". Often in a pejorative sense. It's convenient for them. But there are many shades of grey. It was once suggested to me that the expression "non-straight" was appropriate, but I still can't get into that kind of thinking. As I said, too many shades of grey. So, do the posters here feel it is acceptable?

So, David, 10%. That would mean three of the players on the field are gay. They'd be tough lads, then. Just like Ian Roberts and Gareth Thomas.

"Many people use the all-inclusive words "gay" and "straight", "non-straight"

I I get so tired of hearing this stupid usage of the word "straight". I have never used it. I just say"hetero". After all, what is the antonym of the word "straight" anyway? : crooked, bent ,twisted, warped etc.

Also; I wonder why anyone would want to refer to himself as "queer". If you do,that's your own self-identification. Don't include me.

  14. Thanks for the replies. But I definitely do not want to teach full-time,(meaning early mornings) in huge classrooms. All I can really handle is part-time (meaning afternoons, evenings and/or weekends) in small, private schools.

If you mean by "qualified" , no, I do not have a legal teacher's licence in the U.S. or Europe. But I do have about 20 years teaching and tutoring experience mainly in Taiwan. I am from California (white male). I can easily tutor other foreigners in Chinese, but obviously not advanced level for which you would need a native speaker. I have taught other Americans French,Spanish and German as well.No problem.
