  1. Thai people live in Thai-land, an unique place full of Thai culture. All Thai speak the Thai language and love their Thai country. Thai children go to Thai schools where Thai teachers tell them about the Thai language, the Thai culture and Thai logic so these Thai children will stay pure Thai. Thai children become Thai adolescents and these Thai girls and Thai boys make Thai love and beget more Thai children.

Thai farmers sow Thai seeds in Thai ricefields. Thai monks pray in Thai tempels to soothe Thai karma.

All Thai children care for their Thai parents. When Thai parents are getting older they suffer from Thai diseases, go to Thai hospitals where Thai doctors give them Thai medicines. In the end they die, like people everywhere, and they are cremated in the Thai way.

I gather you don't feel that Thais have a global perspective. You may be right.

I should not have said that most "Thais" are stupid, but rather-

Most people are hopelessly stupid and the good ones in Thailand who try to exercise what we take for granted as our freedom of speech, are put in prison for years. Of course , most foreigners here couldn't care less and never read the news at " Prachatai English".

    Start reading it !!

  2. I have noticed that also. I think some of those businesses might have went under due to all of the protesting last year in that area, just my opinion. I am sure the rents in that area are sky high.

    " might have "went" ??

  3. You really sound like a fool to have stayed here all those years. I mean , you have " an advanced degree" , you bought your wife a car, oh yes and you just happened to buy a house too. I'm an economic refugee here.I would much rather be able to afford to rent a decent little studio apartment in my own country, my own state of California , but I cannot afford to. And I have no hope of finding a job that would pay enough to survive there. I'm 60 and I'll probably die here.

I'm wondering who the fool is. As much as we don't like Californians moving to live in our states, the law still does allow you to relocate somewhere cheaper. Out of 50 states, I'd guess 47 of them are much cheaper places to live than california.

No need to wonder there, Sparky, just look in the mirror. I don't want to live in your lousy state. Cal. is my state. And I don't care a crap what you don't like.

That must really eat you up inside. Loving California so much but those Californians then let you down that you no longer can afford to live there.

"those Californians then let you down" ? Your brain must be " really eaten-up inside" , Sharpey . The whole system of unrestrained corporate-capitalist greed is the problem. But I'm not going to waste my time on trying to educate someone who hasn't even started to learn the basics yet..

    Your mum wasn't a doctor?

Um, no. But she was in fact a registered nurse which is how she met my dad when he came back home after spending 3 and a half years in Japanese prison camps.

  8. HC.... That is a thorough post. My wife joined me for a while when I was working in the USA last year and she pointed out that meats and seafood were cheaper in the markets there than in Thailand. Plus, the seafood tasted better, likely as it was not preserved with nasty stuff. Vegetables and fruits are definitely more expensive in the USA, about 3-4 times what they are in LOS. Most off the shelf items in the grocery stores were cheaper. Medical care is the big hitter in the USA, but if you can avoid that, it is indeed cheaper in the USA these days if you can find inexpensive housing.

    .

Yep. The beef has gone up recently, but the quality is far superior and still cheaper than LOS. Some veggies are cheaper in Thailand, but not much of a variety. Ever buy a spaghetti squash or Brussels Sprouts in LOS?

The key in America is to work hard at that job that pays so well, long enough to be debt free and have your house free and clear. Then stay in good health, and life is far less expensive, with far more variety and benefits, than in SE Asia.

Oh yes, "THAT job" !, and "your house free and clear" ! I wish I had only known . Thanks for telling us so now we know!

  9. Thank you.

Taibei , Taiwan in the 1980's and early 90's was a paradise. For over a decade I picked up every night. And never a mention of money. They Have money already.

But nobody goes to the park anymore. They would rather stare at computer screens, apparently.

The park here in Bangkok used to be o.k. too when I was here in 2005. But it's all over now. They would also rather stare at computer screens now. Pretty sick.

P.S., if you really look like that, you sure have been lucky!
