BREAKING NEWS Thai Forces Close Sa Kaeo Border Amid Tensions
Ctkong replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Exceptions for humanitarian needs, such as urgent medical care, student education, and essential daily life activities. I think Thai authorities allow goods and services to cross border on foot but not vehicles. -
I remembered last year my Korean friend and wife wanting to visit Damnoen Saduak market even though they knew it is a tourist trap. They were on holiday so this is one item from their bucket list. My missus, a long term resident fluent in Thai, negotiated with the boatman on my behalf and managed to lower the price substantially. It is what it is.

Tourism Decline of Chinese Tourists in Pattaya Raises Concerns
Ctkong replied to snoop1130's topic in Pattaya News
I visited pattaya once a month or so on the way to rayong klaeng or chantaburi for the quiet beaches. Had done so for 2 decades. Pattaya is good for a transit stay for the good restaurants there especially Patrick’s grill restaurant. Pattaya has good western restaurants too. You do not have to visit the nightlife area if you are not inclined. -
Some cars have a window tint that is too dark to be used safely at night . You get to see only reflections on the windows making it a hazard to drive at night. I drove a friend’s suv once at night and got the fright of my life when I realized both windows were heavily tinted. I can only see thru the windscreen. The windows and rear windscreen were all heavily tinted and showed total reflections. Ok for day driving but a hazard at night.

Do not drink to total incapacitation. Be responsible with alcohol. I only got drunk twice in my whole life. Don’t cheapen your life like that. You owe it to yourself to live a long and fruitful life . Don’t throw your life callously like that. Nobody ,not even your wife , is responsible for your well-being but yourself.

This teacher should be taken away quietly and taught a severe lesson literally. I definitely would if it is my son. No Thai education is worth dying for. -

Last week I was having dinner with missus at a restaurant in Korat on holiday. In came a schoolboy ( wearing a school uniform) selling bags of yogurt. I told him I need only 2 cups as the rest would be wasted and thrown away. however I will give him the amount for the whole batch. I can see the gratitude in his eyes as he waied me profusely. He reminded me of my son about his age. -
Those cheapskates ,eat and dash , are the bane of foreigners living in pattaya and phuket. I believe in karma and those eat and dash might have the unpaid ingested food in their stomach turning into something else. Never indulge in something that is not rightfully paid for. Karma is a bitch and it never forgets. My take

Report Expat Confusion Grows as Thailand Cracks Down on Helmet Law Violations

Wearing helmet is to provide road safety for you and not wearing one is on you if you ever get involved in an accident. Thus to the Thais, it is the usual ‘up to you’ philosophy. Your life your choice . -

Report Thai-Ghanaian Fraud Gang Arrested for 200 Million Baht Japan Scam
Ctkong replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
Once the email had been hijacked, the gang played the long game studying the business operation for some time. Requesting the payment to be paid to other banks in other countries are common in international trade. This is for efficiency and lower cost of foreign exchange payments. I had a Japanese company ,whose email was hijacked ,paying into my supposedly hong kong bank account while my company is in Singapore. Scammed almost 40,000 US$. -
Crime Tourist Tries to Escape Wheel Clamp by Changing Tyre
Ctkong replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
Sometimes tourists do not know how to go about paying the fines and getting the clamp removed especially when their mode of transport can no longer help them.   Trying to physically remove the clamp may be a lack of foresight and desperation. once my car was wheel clamped along sukhumvit soi 47 Bangkok . I have no idea how to go about it as there was no note or number to call. Finally I managed to ask local Thai for help. Got onto a motorbike taxi go to the relevant police station , paid the fines and (700tb) got onto the motorbike taxi again back to my car to wait for the police to unclamp . Waste of time indeed. So I believe the tourists would rather just pay the fine if they could rather than going thru the hassle of changing wheel. Just my feedback though. -
