  1. Ya… the wild wild East where it bring out the uncouth in you. Where the dregs of society got attracted to. Having said that, I do frequent pattaya on and off every trip to Thailand on the way to klaeng or rayong. Patrick’s western restaurant is really good food.
  2. Frolicking in the cesspool? Like attract like.
  3. Auction plates if I am not mistaken are those car plates with temporary usage once the car is possessed from auctions but not yet registered to drive onto road.
  4. Invest in a good water filter system. They don’t cost much and water is the lowest denominator of good health. I read the RO water is acidic after filtration and cancer thrives in an acidic environment.
  5. Not every farang is rich and supportive of local economy. If a Thai ask you to leave if you do not like it here, take it up to his/her superior. Make money work for you. thais generally equate money to power and power to subservience. It is in their patriarchal patronage culture. If you stayed in an upscale community or hotel, you get respect and good service from all walks of life. It is what it is. If Thais treat you lesser than you think you deserved, then if their eyes, you matter not much in their sphere of existence.
  6. The sole casualty I see here is his son . Children see, children heard and children form their own conclusion. Not always correct but there lies the problem.
  7. long after the party is gone, the memories lingers forever. That is my point .
  8. As some poster mentioned. There are better ways to resolve this situation. You cannot damage control the power of rumors especially in a close knit community . Spare a thought for your spouse and son . It does not help to expound the notion of a tight fisted farang for either parties. A 900tb is a small price to pay for the privilege.
  9. 900 tb is a small price to pay for not losing face for both the parent and his son as rumors travel far and wide in Thailand regardless true or not.
  10. Mirror crack can may be fixed with car windscreen repair fluid.
  11. Tourists coming to Thailand , see locals riding with low safety standards, come away with the idea that if it is good enough for them then it is good enough for the tourists too. They forgot that life is cheap in Thailand and the locals had their community support and family connections if things go south.
  12. Samui has huge number of bike accidents because of illegal unqualified tourists bikers. Maybe samui authority can learn from vietnam Danang bike rental shop that also rent electric bikes for those unlicensed bikers as it is slower (maximum speed is only 50 Kms) .
  13. Rental crash helmets smell bad and dirty too. Missus used to buy own helmet when renting bikes in vietnam. Many helmets were barely usable with many lacking sturdy snap ons straps. Many rental bikers are not used to wearing helmets too. It is uncomfortable and messes up their hair.
  14. Pattaya , by its nature, attract the type of people who are not there for cultural immersion. These types of tourists would typically be the dregs of their society.
  15. A famous mma fighter once commented that when faced with an assailant armed with a knife, the best solution is to run away fast because it does not work like in the movies. An armed assailant is unpredictable and your arms or legs is no match for a knife attack.
  16. MMA skills do not work against a gun and in Thailand, you can get shot over lesser altercations.
  17. This is Thailand. No need to escalate the altercation. The Indians knew where he lived and can at any time give him a payback. Given that life is cheap and any loss of face can have fatal repercussion, just live and let live.
  18. Perhaps one of those ultrasonic device that trains dogs to be silent can work ?
  19. Thailand is still a medieval country in social development. Law of the jungle reign first .Unless you have the backup of some military or police general , a show of force will immediately resolve the ‘lowly’ Thais. A word from authority will do just that. Otherwise, even the lowly Thais can bully the farang on any altercation regardless.
  20. Thais do steal branded shoes from temples when the owners enter the prayer hall. That is why I always wear sandals ( copies) worth tb200-300 when visiting prayer halls and thieves are welcome to them . I also always keep an extra pair of sandals in the car for backup.
  21. Let’s not deviate from the issue: whether Thais or tourists, if this trend more, restaurants will only implement the ‘Pay upon order confirmation ‘ system as in Singapore or Malaysia . Giving the option of paying after a meal is giving the customers the respect they command . If this service is abused, you can’t blame the owners of implementing a more equitable system. thus when tourists abuse the system, it is us ,the expats , who reap the aftermath.
  22. Thailand may be a bit ‘loose’ in enforcing laws and money can make your problems go away. However regardless , we are guests of the country whether long stay or tourists and respect each country’s laws is universal . Denigrating the host country shows just the type of person you are.
  23. Ya. Money solves everything here. So fine those Italians hugely and let their money resolve the issue.
  24. Simply because the area was designated a ‘no go area’ for corals to recuperate. Both boats and snookers / divers are not allowed into the area. Law is law.
