Child Dies in SUV Crash on Chiang Mai Mountainside
Ctkong replied to Georgealbert's topic in Chiang Mai News
In Thailand and also elsewhere, it is always prudent to give your vehicle a thorough service especially brake fluids and pads. Engine problem is not fatal but a failing brake upon descending can be. Even a failing clutch plate can screw up your traveling plan. -
Child Dies in SUV Crash on Chiang Mai Mountainside
Ctkong replied to Georgealbert's topic in Chiang Mai News
Once the suv loses power to ascend, the driver may have panicked not knowing what else to do or the suv may not be able to ascend even if engaged in low gear. Braking would just hold the car stationary for a moment but the next move is crucial for survival. If overloaded, maybe the driver should ask the occupants to go outside and walked a distance until the ‘problematic’ stretch of road is over. Thais ,being face conscious ,would definitely try to resolve any problems on their own not knowing that other lives can be at stake here as in this case. -

Child Dies in SUV Crash on Chiang Mai Mountainside

Some drivers are not used to driving an automatic suv up steep incline using lower gear. I remembered once driving up a really steep incline using toyota fortuner loaded with 5 people inside. I used ‘D’ gear but after driving up about 30 meters, the car struggle to move upwards and just slid down a couple of meters. Luckily I braked hard and the transmission uses a lower gear to engage the job. I did not use an ‘L’ gear because I only use it for steep downhill not uphill. I thought the ‘D’ gear is enough to do the job going uphill in lower gear since I am at low speed but it seemed that is not the case. Maybe the driver is also in such a situation. -

Worker Dies After Eucalyptus Tree Falls on Him Due to Sudden Wind Shift

Karma determines your destiny -
Problem is Thailand’s masses are dumb down regarding their own safety with everybody pursuing their own selfish interest and not cooperating among users to protect lives. They should take a leaf from Vietnam’s traffic ‘etiquette ‘ whereby most if not all riders wear helmets and do not ride against the traffic. Moreover motorcycle speed limit is only 40 Km/hr near towns and 60km/hr on highway which help greatly in protecting lives. The rider above definitely knew he was riding towards oncoming traffic but I guess he had been doing the same for countless times until the fatal outcome. This is one trait of rural thai stubbornness at play. Poor lady rider who was utterly innocent in deciding the route taken had to bear the consequences of the rider’s stupidity too.

British mother’s tourist warning after drugs kill daughter in Thailand
Ctkong replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
As a Buddhist, I believe in karma . Karma inflicts everybody regardless their religious beliefs. So even if you are a good parent, your kid may turn out bad simply because in this reincarnation, his purpose is to exact his/ her pound of flesh from you due to past actions. If they are bad and left in an early death, it only meant that they had exacted their pound of flesh and it is time to go as debt settled including the anguish it caused their parents. My take. -
My guess is that this Swiss guy parallel park or park his car blocking others from exiting. Moreover if he did that, he did not place a note on his windscreen with his mobile number in case of emergency. These actions would piss off any guy let alone a group of Thais. Being beaten down for self entitlement is the result.

British Man Arrested for Jewellery Theft from Tourists in Pattaya

Some people wore their gold necklaces their whole adult life without taking them off even during bathtime. Especially if it holds the amulets. ok , the only time I saw my Thai friend took off his necklace was during his soapy massage. -
AirAsia Faces Backlash After Booking Payment Glitch Sparks Refund Outcry
Ctkong replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Another bad PR on Airasia side was the recent action a couple of months ago at departure side in KLIA2 where their workers were stationed at the departure entrance weighing each and every piece of luggage for every flyer resulting in a very long queue . The cabin bag or backpack were weighted together with the laptops or carry on with maximum 7kgs total. Many flyers were caught and redirected to the counters to pay for the carryon fees ( 14 kgs total) paying for the full 14 kgs regardless if you exceeded by only1 kg(8 kgs total). This is showing Airasia’s pettiness for all to see and the blowback in malaysia online is substantial. The workers should only eye those with bulky carry ons that are really overweight. However on my next flight a week later, there was no more such shenanigan going on. Perhaps Airasia management did take heed of the blowback resulting from their action. -
AirAsia Faces Backlash After Booking Payment Glitch Sparks Refund Outcry
Ctkong replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
After Covid with the new booking app, Airasia online service and ease of booking standard had gone down. I can get better prices thru third party booking platform for the same tickets quoted in MOVE apps or even my subscription of ASEAN PASS platform. Only the problem with third party booking platform is that if you want to make any changes , you would have to amend directly on the airline site which sometimes cannot find your booking in their site. -
Reasons not a good investment in EV are low resale value due to expensive battery replacement ( may be cheaper later?) after a few years of usage expensive replacement parts in case of accidents Potentially higher insurance cost due to EV total loss due to fire hazard lack of recharging stations in close proximity when traveling in rural areas hotels and home stays not providing charging stations ‘no parking’ in underground car parks due to accidental fire hazard Lack of charging outlets in car parks in most apartment complexes in Thailand. other than dealer service, lack of EV repair service in case of emergencies.

Myanmar is still rustic in many areas compared to other asean countries. Except for North Korea, modernization is far off for this country. I have relatives still living in shan province taungyyi town. A mountain top capital of shan plateau. We travel there every couple of years for holiday but not recently. I still have some money in the KBZ bank but the economic value had shrunk by 300% since last year. Myanmar food and utility cost had exploded by three four times with shortages everywhere. The military tried to control the flow of imports since they need foreign currencies for trade. Hopefully the country can move on soon following the will of the people.

‘reporting that he had refused to pay her agreed fee. ‘ that is why in western countries, customers pay in advance. Payment before service because customer dissatisfaction is aplenty in these type of services. ASEAN culture find it rude to ask for payment before service as in service industry like restaurants too. Maybe the trend of western restaurants in Thailand using online apps of payment before service will also creep into this type of service industry.

That is correct. I once met a Caucasian staying at a 5 star hotel in my youth in Singapore and was greatly given a culture shock upon learning that he was just a carpenter from a Nordic country. In our country, only wealthy businessmen stay in affluent hotels. It must be a great skill set that paid well in their country.

Thailand infrastructure and weather is not as much as magnet for well heeled tourists especially for repeat stays compared to the Caribbean or southern sunny Europe. I have Caucasian friends who skipped asean countries with Singapore an exception on their business trips to China Korea or Japan . Primary reason is they are not that interested in the culture of ‘poor’ countries nor do they want to immerse in their culture. Hot humid weather and not great infrastructure not helping either. speaking of quality tourists, it seems that Thailand tend to attract the dregs of society or white trash . Maybe it is a ‘like attract like ‘ syndrome?

Grounded: Thai AirAsia denies ticket fraud, blames airline app
Ctkong replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
My experience is not good too. I have issues with their ASEAN PASS which deny me flights even though I can book the same flights thru their normal Airasia MOVE mode. Literally a scam like problem. moreover, once their app kept buffering and suggesting I use a different payment card as current one kept on buffering. Finally I ended up with three charges on three different bank cards. The Chat bot is useless to resolve this issue nor was the local online Airasia customer service in Bangkok able to help. They said their service is solely for overseas customers not local Thai ones even though my flight is overseas from Bangkok. Finally I was able to resolve the refund issue with the service counter desk in Bangkok airport. No cash refunded. Instead they credited the refund into a credit account which took me months to use up even though I travel monthly. Nowadays I do not book blindly thru their apps without comparing prices of their tickets with third party provider like Agoda, trip.com, sky scanner, kiwi.com and other air travel apps. You would be surprised that even with the same flight ,you can get offered cheaper tickets thru third party apps instead of using Airasia MOVE app or even thru their ASEAN PASS. price gouging at work ? Will not likely buy their annual pass too as it is literally not money saving with their rules and conditions. Once bitten, twice shy. sad really. Airasia was once a great airline before Covid. I travelled extensively before Covid t(us had a few outstanding flights that were cancelled during Covid lockdown. I selected the option for my flights refund to be credited into my account instead of cash refunded as Airasia was cash strapped during that time. After Covid, I contacted their office and was told their claim processing office is now located in India. Numerous emails to said office with no acknowledgement and finally gave up the chase. When Airasia came back online with new apps, I checked my account which is still existing. In the credit account , there is ‘zero’ amount credited. -
Russian Tourists Swept Away by Waves at Koh Samui Viewpoint

Nowadays you see people taking ridiculous risks to take videos and photos to post in their social media. It seems they had lost all sense of self preservation in their pursuit of peer recognition, pushing the envelope and sometimes they paid with their lives too.
