Last time i renewed both in Chiang Mai, no medical certificate required. 2 certificate of residency but if using on same day for same thing (licenses) one can be a copy of original. -
Wasn't trying to buy illegal Thai ID. I wanted a legal one for her. She will probably get more ripped off in Myanmar as she is not very smart. She has been in Thailand over 10 years and I think would have been entitled to a Thai ID if she had proof of that. She is going back to Myanmar with a friend soon hopefully to get ID.

A bit of a story here about an ex girlfriend from Myanmar. Please don't ask how she was in the first place, she is and thats that. When I met her she had no ID, no bike license, no bank account. I helped her get her pink non Thai ID.The agent was "her boss" as far as the work permit on the back of the ID. She managed to get a bank account and bike license from that, although for some reason could not register bike in her name. After 2 years the work permit section expired so she went back to the agent and he said he was no longer doing. She looked around but could not find anyone who could help. One night we were in a bar/restaurant and talking to cashier who was from Myanmar. She said she would talk to her uncle in Chiang Rai to see if he could help. After awhile we went to CR and paid a lot money to get a "white Thai ID". This was semi legal as legal ID but not obtained 100% kosher. She managed to open another bank account in CR with it. Was told that and living in CR was all she could do with it. Bit cheesed off after what we (read me) paid. Told the cashier and she said you go back to CR (btw she lives in Chiang Mai) in a year and get it upgraded. We did that at the official government office. Sorry no can do. So she left it like that with 2 IDs (different names). We are still friends and she recently asked could I help as the pink ID itself was due to expire. Her DL has expired and her bank account she uses her is on the expiring ID. Initially I was looking at the DLT online learning for license. It would not accept her Thai ID number. So I did a search on Thai ID numbers. The first digit from 0 to 8 says what type of ID it is. Hers is 0 and zero says NOT a Thai ID. So we were conned. Anyhow went to CR last week. Went to DLT to try for license, no can do. Went to government office, no can do but maybe later. Went to another bank to open account but needed letter from the office we had been at. So we gave up and came back to CR. So has anyone had similar experience with their girlfriend (or boyfriend or non binary friend) and can offer some advice?

Actually I did not know that. Never done by mail and not in person for quite awhile. I am happy to lose a few days for the convenience of joining online. -
Cutoff date for filing Online 90 Day Report
Dazinoz replied to connda's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Depends on what you are doing. If visa extension you can do 45 days in advance and time period commences from the due date. If 90 day online new date is 90 days from when its approved. -
Ok. When I posted this topic a banner appeared asking was I missing daily email and to click to subscribe, which I did. I was already subscribed so must have been cancelled somehow. So hopefully problems solved.

Buying Gold.

Not really conspiracy theories. I know at least India is already trialing digital CBDCs and I think other countries are too. Surprised at India already trialing. -

I have around 0.4 BTC and a few other cryptos. Everything I have been reading there is a good chance BTC won't be around for the long haul. Why? A couple reasons. One is that BTC doesn't really have much practical use except as a "store of value" if you can say that. Many of the newer cryptos have a "utility" use and some should be around a long time. One is XRP is being adopted to aid/replace SWIFT and has already been adopted by many major banks around the world including the CommBank of Australia. Bank of America has stated it will partner with Ripple and use XRP when the Ripple/Sec court case ends which is predicted very soon. The second possible nail in the coffin is energy consumption. Apparently the EU is trying to get BTC banned because of power consumption in mining. Just my 20 bahts worth as I am no expert. -

I tried a few banks and none had boxes and none knew where they were available so I have up the search. -
Buying Gold.

I have bought and sold a lot of gold here in Thailand. Some jewellery for the gf and lots bars to keep. I would definitely stay away from the jewellery as there is a premium on manufacturing cost and if you exchanged, say 1 baht necklace, you can pay a spread of around 3000THB. Gold bars are mostly only 100THB per baht weight. Most places also charge a commission or called something else and that can vary considerably so shop around. The gold shop I deal with is in Wororot Market in Chiang Mai. They charge 200THB per baht for bars less than 5 baht. 5 baht and above you only pay for the current published price. I don't know how they make their money on larger bars. I did sell a 1 baht bar in Phuket many years ago and one dealer wanted to charge me 5000THB as a commission. Fortunately I had a Thai friend with me and we went shopping around and ended up with a MUCH lower commission. As someone mention the gold is 96.5% so probably harder to sell outside Thailand. Best to find a dealer with a good commission and stick with them. My dealer recognises me when I go in now. I keep my gold at home very well hidden as I couldn't find a bank with safety deposit boxes in Chiang Mai. I am sure there is but could not be bothered looking. And bank branches just close sometimes. I received a letter my branch where I opened the account saying it had closed and my new branch was xxx. If I had gold stored there I would hope be transferred but, hey, this is Thailand. Good luck. -
Thai Credit Cards
Dazinoz replied to pontious's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Yes, a lot depends on the branch. And, unfortunately, we are not all as fortunate as yourself to get the type of card you have.
