  1. I have been a member of TVF many years and have been receiving a daily email of news topics. However for some reason I have not been receiving any more emails since 28th December 2022. Checked all my settings but can not find anything. Can anyone help?.
  2. Indian Covid strains on radar Looks like we will all need a punjab.
  3. Not really conspiracy theories. I know at least India is already trialing digital CBDCs and I think other countries are too. Surprised at India already trialing.
  4. I have around 0.4 BTC and a few other cryptos. Everything I have been reading there is a good chance BTC won't be around for the long haul. Why? A couple reasons. One is that BTC doesn't really have much practical use except as a "store of value" if you can say that. Many of the newer cryptos have a "utility" use and some should be around a long time. One is XRP is being adopted to aid/replace SWIFT and has already been adopted by many major banks around the world including the CommBank of Australia. Bank of America has stated it will partner with Ripple and use XRP when the Ripple/Sec court case ends which is predicted very soon. The second possible nail in the coffin is energy consumption. Apparently the EU is trying to get BTC banned because of power consumption in mining. Just my 20 bahts worth as I am no expert.
  5. I tried a few banks and none had boxes and none knew where they were available so I have up the search.
  6. I have bought and sold a lot of gold here in Thailand. Some jewellery for the gf and lots bars to keep. I would definitely stay away from the jewellery as there is a premium on manufacturing cost and if you exchanged, say 1 baht necklace, you can pay a spread of around 3000THB. Gold bars are mostly only 100THB per baht weight. Most places also charge a commission or called something else and that can vary considerably so shop around. The gold shop I deal with is in Wororot Market in Chiang Mai. They charge 200THB per baht for bars less than 5 baht. 5 baht and above you only pay for the current published price. I don't know how they make their money on larger bars. I did sell a 1 baht bar in Phuket many years ago and one dealer wanted to charge me 5000THB as a commission. Fortunately I had a Thai friend with me and we went shopping around and ended up with a MUCH lower commission. As someone mention the gold is 96.5% so probably harder to sell outside Thailand. Best to find a dealer with a good commission and stick with them. My dealer recognises me when I go in now. I keep my gold at home very well hidden as I couldn't find a bank with safety deposit boxes in Chiang Mai. I am sure there is but could not be bothered looking. And bank branches just close sometimes. I received a letter my branch where I opened the account saying it had closed and my new branch was xxx. If I had gold stored there I would hope be transferred but, hey, this is Thailand. Good luck.
  7. Yes, a lot depends on the branch. And, unfortunately, we are not all as fortunate as yourself to get the type of card you have.
  8. I was given a 50k spending limit on a 50k deposit with Bangkok bank and pay NO interest if paid off by the due time and I earn extra interest on my fixed deposit, plus I get Air Asia points as one of the 2 cards they issued me with is and Air Asia card. Quite happy with this arrangement.
  9. They are Chang, 1298 Baht. I know nothing about beer but a friend said more expensive as it was Cold Brew Draught.
  10. Split systems everywhere in Thailand. I used to instal in Australia and never heard them called mini split. Just ask for room air conditioner. Never seen a window/through wall mount one here so not sure if sold. Is the room on the outer wall? If not just remember that the refrigerant supply and return lines need to be run to the unit and could cost more to install. As someone else mentioned a drain also is needed. I have seen drain pumps in Australia but not sure available here.
  11. I rent house and bedroom AC just replaced by owner with a "CentralAir" brand. I think they maybe a Thai brand but not sure. They have a very large LED which displays mode and temp setting when on and a red large red LED when off. Especially when running the display is very bright. The good thing is it can be turned off from the remote and no indicator lights on unit. Could be useful if you needed at very low light at times. No idea as I have never done developing.
  12. Same for me. When I received the red ones they told me about 6 weeks for normal ones. After many visits to the dealer and 6 months later they finally discovered the salesperson had not done the paperwork so car was not registered. I got mine about 9 years ago with a logbook but no one at the dealership informed me as to what the book was for and that I shouldn't drive at night. New to Thailand I didn't ask. Many inter provincial trips day and night in the 6 months I had the red plates on the car.
  13. And you need to fill in log book to drive the car outside your province in the day. Dealer gave me the log book but didn't explain about why and not to drive at night. I had the red plates about 6 months and did many many night drives and drives to other provinces.
  14. Of course thats not a scam because it needs doing. But there are so many that do top up when not needed to get a few extra baht. I have read a few stories where refrigerant had to be let out due to too much being eventually added.
  15. Exactly. I used 2 main ways of finding leaks. Most leaks occur around piping joints or at the service valves (valves on outdoor unit). Oil build up around those areas are a good indication of a leak as oil travels around the refrigeration circuit with the refrigerant. The second method is an electronic leak detector. The one I had was rated at a sensitivity of a leak as little as 7 grams of refrigerant per year which is a very small leak. You would turn the unit on in fresh air then move it to indoor or outdoor unit. When the detector beeps you reset detector and move detector closer. This makes the detector more sensitive. This is repeated until the leak is located.
  16. Should NEVER need doing. As posted above I had AC in australia that had gone 19 years without a top up.
  17. Did you watch my video I posted in this thread? It was the outdoor unit that was causing the issue.
  18. The fins on the heat exchanger piping are very thin and bend easy. If you use too high a pressure cleaner with the nozzle in a jet you can bend them. I use my cleaner tip in a more wide pattern and not too close to fins and also try to aim cleaner spray parallel to the fins. A garden hose will help but, obviously, not clean as good as a pressure washer.
  19. I am renting a house and a few months back the bedroom AC died. Owner got a company to replace it. They did so with one of their own brand I had not heard of before. After a couple months the airflow was "surging" which was very annoying trying to sleep. First thing I checked was the filters. Only very slightly dirty but I cleaned them anyway. I got a torch and looked into air outlet. The barrel fan was extremely dirty and looked to have mould on it. No way should it have been like that in such a short time and filters not dirty. I called my real estate agent as to who should look at it being under warranty. She contacted owner who had installer come out. First thing he did was look at filters then I pointed out fan. Trying to ask him why like that in such a short time but he could not speak a word of english. He phoned agent and while he was on phone to her, her husband (American) called me. He said both and AND filters were very dirty and not covered under warranty. As I had only cleaned filters day before I just told him to go and told agent I will do it myself. Trying to scam a few more baht by saying he had to clean filters.
  20. Basically yes.
  21. Probably a drier.
  22. Sometimes a very small leak can occur and take a long period of time to be detected. So basically what i was saying is if you needed to do a top up because unit not cooling we had to locate source of leak and repair before topping up.
  23. Obviously you are the expert on ACs. If it doesn't need a top up and they do it is a scam. If you think different good for you.
  24. I was doing instals and minor fixes in Oz before i left and I had to account for every gram of refrigerant. And If I did a top up I had to have proof of a repair.
  25. I had an AC in my bedroom in Australia 19 years old and NEVER needed a top up. I installed a new inverter type and moved old one to workshop and used a couple more years with no top up. Mostly just a scam here because the average person has no idea.
