  1. High on my bucket list of places to check out.

I have heard many say it is now a great place to visit and even live.

But since relocating to Thailand, I have learned it is sa very good idea to really know a place before deciding to live there.

First impressions can be very misleading.

  2. When my Thai wife lived in California with me, she worked at a few Thai restaurants.

Most are run by Thai people and their extended families.

But Thai people in America are a tight and close community who are great about supporting and employing each other.

I used to jokingly refer to it as the Thai Mafia.

Unless she has a visa to enter the US for another reason ( and they are not easy to get ) she would have to be guaranteed employment and provide proof of that employment before a visa would even be considered.

  3. I may be biased but from where i sit as a teacher I find that the best thing a parent can do for their child is.

    A. speak English at home even if it is 15 minutes and basic hello how are you stuff.

    B. find them a good tutor.

C look at the quality of the students not at the quality of the program.

I teach privately and find that some of my students that are in EP classes know less English than the kids in the normal classes.

EP is IMNSHO just a method for schools to steal more money from parents. It does not mean that their kids are gong to learn more or be better students.

I have EP 5 students in my classes that can not say the phonetic alphabet or read but they are getting good grades at school.

    Why

    1. schools like the money

    2. parents want the best for their kids and

    3. the no fail policy means that no matter how bad your child is they will move to the next level.

    Everything you say is true.

I retired from teaching English in Thailand as a native speaker almost two years ago.

One major reason i decided to retire was my frustration over seeing the schools take advantage of the students and their parents.

Educating the students is not the priority..generating more money for the schools and teachers is what the English program is all about.

When I realized that I was an unwilling partner in their scam, I quit.

  4. The death penalty should be abolished everywhere in the World. It is barbaric and does nothing to stop crime.

As for Pfizer- they could care less about human life. If they did care- they would reduce the price of their drugs so people everywhere could afford them. Medical care is a human right and no one should be making a profit off another person's pain. Drug companies are leaches sucking the lifeblood from the human race.

You, my friend have hit the nail on the head.

American pharma companies are in business for profit only.

Life saving and life maintaining drugs the sell to Americans can be purchased for a small fraction of the price they charge Americans in other countries.

Their lobbyist pay our lawmakers to protect their high profits.

Many Americans can not afford to purchase the drugs their doctors prescribe...or decide to reduce their dosage to save money..

Many Americans go bankrupt trying to pay their medical expenses.

Just like lawyers, drug companies make a fortune taking advantage of other people's misfortunes.

They are the vultures of society.

  5. and most Thai "English teachers" teach their English classes in the Thai language, not in the English language..

Because most Thai English teachers do not really speak English.

I have known some who can not even read or write in the English language, but they have a degree and they are " English teachers" !

The program is doomed to failure, students will not learn the English language without self motivation and outside help.

But, English programs do generate a lot of extra money for the schools.

  6. What a shame that the idea that all people should be respected is so controversial i The United States.

What's wrong here is why should this be a topic of discussion in the first place? You're either male or a female, there is no "inbetween people," genetically that I can recall. Obama and his final days causing as much social unrest is really the issue here, not who should use what bathroom.

If you want to cross dress and or think your a different sex than you actually genetically are, then I suggest the right place for you would be under medical supervision, not demanding access to bathrooms you do not belong in.

These ideas are directly aimed by intent at children in schools by those who started this gay agenda and now its got traction from the highest office in the land. Ask yourself this, less than 1% of the country calls itself gay, why does the 99% that does not call itself gay need to bend over for this issue?

"there is no "inbetween people," genetically that I can recall. "

Google " hermaphrodite" you may learn something.

When yo know who they are, get back to me and let me know if we need separate restrooms for them too!

  7. The man is looking for advice about buying a used car.

Why do so many want to morph it into another " Thai women are evil and will take you for all they can" thread?

I know some fools have been fleeced by Thai women and like to think they were not fools and it only happened because all Thai women are evil.

    They are not all evil...

It sounds like the OP has a good one.

So, let's get over it and talk about buying a used car.

  8. I bought a new car recently.

I was in the market for a good used car like you are.

So many people I respect advised me against buying a used car in Thailand, I followed their advice and bought a new Toyota instead.

The two things that convince me were"

1)Most Thai people are not great about maintaining their vehicles.

Simple things like oil changes may not of happened very often, if at all.

    2) " Problem is all of these motors (3) I have viewed have 120/150/202'000 km on the clock."...at least!

This is Thailand and dealers and previous owners are not above resetting the "clock" or odometer to a much lower number than it actually is.

I am happy with the new car.

The payments are reasonable, insurance is free for the first year and the maintenance is scheduled and also free. and if I have a problem, the dealer takes care of it.

I am from America where hunting for and finding that great deal on the perfect "cherry" used car is like an enjoyable game.

Here in Thailand, there are no rules for the game and you have a very good chance to lose the game and end up regretting what you purchase used.

There is a good reason you see mostly new cars on the road in Thailand.

  9. This is very dangerous. It missed a glaring fact.

That 98% of boys who think they are girls, simply grow out of it. And 88% of gender confused girls grow out of it.

So the vast majority of boys don't need access to the girls toilets and locker rooms. They need understanding and nurturing.

This is gender ideology, it is politics. The college of pediatricians has issued this statement condemning gender ideology in children as child abuse: http://www.acpeds.org/the-college-speaks/position-statements/gender-ideology-harms-children

Gender confusion in children is not a sign that they will become true transgenders.

Until this very important fact is addressed, what we have here is the law swinging too far in the opposite direction. By creating an environment where you foster the acting out of gender confusion in kids, you are effectively encouraging their confusion.

Any parent knows that children are fantasists. They act out all kind of fantasies. It's called playing. I had an imaginary friend till I was 7. Percy had to have a plate next to mine at meal times. My parents worried about this because of how many years it carried on. They took me to a doctor who told them it was normal and to just let it play out.

If pediatricians are against this, then which experts are for it? Surely the pediatricians are the experts here. Obama is a politician, this is just misplaced liberal ideology playing out.

Millions of adults never grow out of the imaginary friend stage.

  10. How are you going to keep the Pervs out of the bathrooms? whistling.gif

    Post a sign that says:

REPUBLICAN SENATORS ANS HOUSE MEMBERS PROHIBITED

They have been in the news for illicit sex in bathrooms....not transgender people.

More Republican Politicians Than Trans People Have Been Arrested For Sex Acts in Bathrooms
April 11, 2016 by Terry Firma 405 Comments

All the recent political and social commotion about transgender people and bathrooms is even sillier when you look at the numbers. How many trans people have been arrested for sex acts in bathrooms? As best as we can tell, zero.

How many GOP politicians? At least three.

  11. Your wife is wise. Thailand isnt a place to raise children. if they arent Thai of course.

I wouldn't even raise Thai children here. I can only assume that those who do dont have the means to do so elsewhere.

Why do you think so many Thais send their kids overseas to be educated?

Why do you think so many Thais living overseas cant understand why I live here?

Why do you think my Thai mrs cant wait to leave here?

    Interesting.

Every Thai person I knew in California ( and I knew a lot since my Thai wife was there with me ) said they would only stay in America long enough to earn and save enough money to live a comfortable live back in Thailand.

Yes, they all preferred life in Thailand and planned to return as soon as they could.

  12. Last month I had to spend a night in a hotel/resort, near the airport in Bangkok.

There was a young American woman at the pool wearing nothing but a skimpy bra and thong style panties.

She actually pointed out to me that she was wearing underwear and not a bikini.

She laughed and said the really was not much difference.

There was a difference, when wet, she may has well have been naked.

People with children were leaving the pool area as soon as they saw her.

Except for western tourist resort areas, bikinis are pretty rare to see in Thailand.

    It is a modest culture.

  13. And this is coming from a country with hundreds of thousand of half naked bar girls and street walkers...

did any one said double standards here?......

A "naked bar" is an appropriate place for women who want to expose their bodies to do so.

People who go to those bars expect to see that and are not offended by it.

doing so in a public place where those who do not want to see it are exposed to it, is not appropriate at all.
