  1. I read the Bible.

It says a virgin who was married yet somehow still a virgin gave birth to the son of God who is somehow still God.

You pay him respects by going to church and pretend to eat his flesh and drink his

Blood and declare him your Savior.

He raised the dead and walked on water and rose from the dead himself.

Their followers claim thais are backwards

    No they are equally NUTS

    No, not equally!

Things like throwing stones on the roof are harmless compared to all of the suffering, death, and destruction caused by Christians, Jews and Muslims in the name of the spirit they worship....and all three worship the same "spirit"..

Buddha will protect me as Im driving with no lights on at night..........................oh crap Ive just killed a family of 4.

They are all equally as bad as each other they would all kill you to protect their beliefs including Buddhists, I couldnt buy alcohol yesterday, why not? Im not a Buddhist yet because of a "belief" I am denied, whats the betting some of those stones actually hit someone on the head when they came down or someone looks up hearing a noise and the stone comes down and lands in their eye.

But its ok we dont have to worry about how we behave too much as we will be "reborn" so lets drive with abandon I mean what could possibly go wrong?

It was "just their time to die" right

    I BELIEVE !

I believe that all religions are dangerous and harmful superstitions. including Buddhism when followed as a religion and not just a philosophy.

But things like the Crusades, the Inquisition, Popes sending missionaries to the "New World" with instructions to kill those they can not convert.the constant conflicts between Muslims, Jews and Christians in the middle east and around the world are just some of the larger and better known examples of how the belief in one particular god has destroyed a huge number of lives since that belief has existed., and there is no indication it will stop in the foreseeable future.

The aforementioned things make the death and suffering caused by beliefs like Buddhism look like a very small drop in the bucket.

  3. We do not believe that sort of "stuff" works at all...but they do...lol....while every Thai person I have known, when asked if they believe in ghosts and spirits and or have they seen one they all claim they do, they do exist and or I have seen a ghost...as if there could be no other answer.

So then, just for fun I tell them we believe in Santa Clause and Easter Bunnies that leave magical eggs about for children to find and the one that is the most important to us Westerners is the M&M spirits.

    Cheers

Here is a thought for you to ponder. You dont believe in ghosts and the like but I would guess you believe in a god. Neither can be proven.

Isn't the most popular god on earth a ghost or a spirit?

Someone who died, but isn't dead?

Someone who is everywhere, but can't be seen anywhere?

    It's all rubbish.

Superstitions used to control the masses and make a select few very wealthy.

    and tax exempt as well.

Good work if you can get it!cheesy.gif

  4. Superstitions and Buddhism goes hand in hand in this country where the clergy encourage people to

believe in black magic, ghosts and evil sprits, more work and earning for them as well as more respect

as the people to go to help ward off those bad spirits.... This is Thailand, and it will be so for centuries

    to come.....

What about Santa Claus and Easter Bunny and Virgin Mary and Resurrection and Noah's Ark and parting of the Dead Sea and..... every religion has beliefs and superstitions.

    Every religion is a superstition.

Buddhism is a religion for many,

but it is only a philosophy for many others.

  5. Typical of the superstitious Thais.. They still live in the 12th century and belong in the dark ages...

    Interesting comment.

What do you know of the Bronze age mythology, written before people knew where the sun went at night ,and believed in by millions of westerners?

It's full of spirits, magic, and outrageous lies.

Millions have been killed, tortured, oppressed and exploited as a result of this superstition.

    They call it Christianity.

    It's so typical of westerners!

  6. Are you unpopular?

Have you upset or offended someone?

I actually get a discount at my neighborhood ( village ) market.

I asked why and they told me that I buy many things, and they want to be sure I go to their store and not the other one in the village.

My LEO cost me 3 baht less per bottle than it does Thai customers.

    It works for me.

Am I having deja vu or are you just copy and pasting the same comment you placed in another thread awhile back.

Just curious, because I swear I've read that post before.

No, not a "copy and paste".

But I have made similar replies to similar posts complaining about farangs being overcharged.

I am pleased that you are paying attention, and still have a good memory.

But do you need to be so negative about it?

  7. Well, there is a hell of a lot i could say on your post, but,i just dont know where to start.

Seems pretty straightforward to me, he is being reamed by the locals. Were you reading it backwards or is you one of dem troll fings?

Let me explain in very simple terms. ("are you" not "is you") What is so interesting in his post that he sends it to social media?

I thought his use of the word " dem" made it obvious that he was attempting to be humorous.

He probably has spell check, like most of us!

  9. Yes, it is way too western for me.

But if it was not so western, it would not attract the kinds of expats and tourists that it does.

I am somewhat amused by those who only know Bangkok and the other westernized areas like Pattaya, Phuket and other tourist areas and think that they represent what Thailand is all about.

Most of Thailand is very different from these areas.

I do enjoy a visit to Bangkok ,and the like' once or twice a year,

but for me it is like visiting a different country, a different world

It is probably a good thing that those who require a western life style have places like this.

It is probably also that they do not venture into the real Thailand.

so how would Bangkok be "de-westernised"??

A compass or world map might be helpful tools

Hong Kong, Tokyo, Ho Chi Min City, and countless other big cities in the "far east" have developed, just as large cities around the world have.

They are all still very eastern cities,

They are just existing in the 21st century.

East is east and West is west, but the entire world is moving on,

and modern technology has allowed us all to share the same developments....good or bad.

Even Willyumiii has learned that one!

    Thanks Scott

  11. "Before I settled in Bangkok in January of 2016 "

    Seriously?cheesy.gif

Four to five months in Bangkok and he is posting this??

It takes AT LEAST five years to learn enough about any part of Thailand to even form a somewhat valid opinion.

You wil think you understand what Thailand is all about four or five times , maybe more, before you get close to reality.

  13. The poor woman was forced to sit with and interview this sexist creep who must turn her stomach.

If she wants to continue her career as a major player in the main stream media, she had no choice but to interview the presumed nominee of the republican party.

I am not a fan of hers, but I feel sorry for her.

Like a rape victim, I bet she took a long shower when the interview was over.

  14. lol a 'gut punch' good expression.

    Hang in there Bernie

Even if he does not get the nomination, (and anything can still happen in this bizarre election year *) Bernie has started a very strong movement in this country that will not go away when the last ballot is counted.

Bernie has given the people of America, especially the younger voters, who are fed up with corporate owned government a voice and they have learned how to use it.

Like it or not, we will feel the Bern for generations to come.

Like it or not, we are in Bernie's debt for that.

    * it is not unthinkable that Trump and Clinton could be disqualified from running..and there is still 6 months to go before the election.

anything can happen in this fast moving, exciting game of American Politics!

  15. Without education you have no critical thinking, but what you do have is a lot of sheep....LOS will now stand for; Land of Stupidly...

What K. Prayuth and a lot of TV members don't seem to realise is that critical thinking is a specific skill/art and has to be learned and therefore taught. It has to be taught by those who understand it just like maths or languages.

Very few schools anywhere in the world teach it as a subject - you need a teacher who understands it to bring it into a class.

Most universities expect you to understand the principles of it but I suspect in Thailand the average business studies student has no idea....or worse still medical students!

"What K. Prayuth and a lot of TV members don't seem to realise is that critical thinking is a specific skill/art and has to be learned and therefore taught."

What the PM does realize and many TV members do not is that in this case "critical thinking" refers to a method of teaching as apposed to the "Rote" method now used in Thai schools.

The critical thinking method, leaves topics open for questions and discussion about the topic.

With the rote method , now used i Thailand< a topic is presented by the teacher and accepted and memorized by the students. Thai students have been taught that it is disrespectful to ever question a teacher on anything they say.

So, again, in this case ,"critical thinking" is a method of teaching and not a thought process.

The PM is very aware of this and wants the Thai education system to join that of most of the world in using modern ( 100 year old ) teaching methods.

  16. The fact that the U.S. will not support a non elected government in Thailand has created an interesting situation for the military.

For decades, the U.S. supported and supplied Thailand with military equipment.

I got lost and ended taking a drive through the military base in Korat about a year ago and almost all of the equipment there, from tanks to trucks was from America.

With no American help since the government change, the equipment is ageing and I'm sure in need of parts for repair or replacement

This is yet one more reason for Thailand to get closer to China.

I am somewhat surprised that the American industrial/ military corporations have not tried to keep the military equipment flowing to Thailand.

After all, the war machine in America is really about money and profits for corporations.

  17. I wont be retired because I wont receive any retirement benefits from my state.

    this assumption is wrong.

you will for sure be retired, since you are neither working nor looking for a job

    I think manarak is correct.

You don't need to be collecting "benefits" to be retired.

However, if you don't have the income or money in the bank, required, you would not qualify for a "retirement visa".
