  1. I support burning off the remain jungles and fossil fuel left on earth.

Let the Earth reset itself like it did a few hundred millions ago.

    You are correct.

Humans will never kill the planet.

Earth will adapt and cary on long after it has become unsuitable for species like humans.

It will be a happier, healthy planet once the greedy self serving humans are extinct.

Unfortunately, humans will take countless species off into extinction with them.

If you really feel that "It will be a happier, healthy planet once the greedy self serving humans are extinct" Then why don't you set us all a good example of helping Mother Earth by doing away with yourself ? ?

Because I am not one of those who values my personal wealth over the health of the environment that we must live in.

I do not doubt that the climate is changing. ( Did you notice the record breaking heat wave we just went through and the drought that is still ongoing?)

I also think it is reasonable to believe that careless human activity, like our addiction to carbon producing fossil furel, whan practical alternative sources of energy are available, but unprofitable for the powerful, government owning fossil fuel industry., has caused or at least contributed to the rapid change in climate we are experiencing.

I, for one, have greatly reduced my dependency on things that may be contributing to the problem in recent decades.

Leaving early wiould make no difference to the planet.

When we finally make it unsuitable for life forms like our own, we will all leave together.

You reply reminds me a lot of those eloquent This visa posters who always reply to someone who has a problem in Thailand with the standard cop out " If you don't like it, go back to where you came from."

Hope you did not strain your brain coming up with such a witty reply.

  2. I had one baby owl too that someone gave me (falled from a tree) . fed him 5 x a day. was very cute and wanted even play. he flew in my room and landed of my shoulder, TV, drawer... he was scared the first day, but after giving food to him, I was his best friend. he was very interested by other birds outside I put him in a cage on the balcony when I was gone

they don't drink a lot but eat often, 6 pieces of meat usually 5 times a day or more . 30 pieces of chicken. (1cm by 5 mm) in average per day.

can eat raw chicken and liver. but this is not good food for them as they eat insect I believe . better if they eat their own food.

anyway after 2 weeks of intense care , I left the door open and the second morning he was gone. bye bye little bird, I still miss him.

The best food for them is whole, live food.

If they only eat meat, they will lack the other minerals they need to be healthy , like calcium from bones, that they would normally get in the wild

I always fed live, small mice and have talked to others who used newly hatched chickens

Keep in mind, they are predators and it is in their nature to capture and kill their food.

  3. Hi, my friend brought me a baby barn owl around 2 weeks old. my plan is to feed it so i can release it in wild when it gets ready. Now it's about 5-6 weeks old, her face started to be drawn with the heart shape, wings came out and small brown feathers on its neck. but the problem is that her wings are too heavy to lift them up so they touch the ground when it stands up. Once a day i find her laying down in the cage after her wings get stuck with her wings while moving and it isn't able to stand up again until i hold her wings up so it lifts her body again. Please any help on how can i handle such cases ?!

As I stated in an earlier post here, I rehabed more than a few owl in my past life in California, so I do have some experience.

The problem with the cage, may be the cage itself.

When I was working with owls, I used a tiled shower in an extra bathroom I did not use.

I put a couple of dead branches in it the birds could perch on and there was plenty of room for the birds to jump ( not fly ) around and plenty of room to stretch and flap their wings.

It was also easy to clean. I would just remove the birds, turn on the shower and wash all but their pellets down the drain.

It is important to keep their area clean or they will have problems with mites and other parasites.

I know you may not have an extra shower, but it would be great if you could come up with a large enclosed area without bars or wires fore them to get hung up in.

As far as the wings drooping or hanging down, it may be a reaction to the heat if it is in a warm location.

Remember, owls are nocturnal and in nature, they are only active in the cool of the night.

They spend their days in cool shady places, like in the hollow of a tree to avoid the light and the heat.

Holding their wings out and down is an attempt to lower their temperature,

The more surface area they expose to the air, the better the heat is dissipated..

Putting your bird in a cooler location may solve this problem for him.

The best food for any captive owl is live, baby mice.

If you can find just a few, put them in a cage and you will be surprised how fast they multiply.

I hope this has been helpful.

    Good luck.

P.S. Even if you do everything just right, I found the survival rate was around 50%.

So, if by chance, your bird does not make it, don't blame yourself, just know you did a good thing by trying and increasing it's chance of survival

  4. America has never really been a democratic nation..that is ever was is a misconception.

America is a republic, not a democracy.

In a republic, people chose representatives who actually do the voting.

Those representatives are not required to vote the way the people who chose them would have voted and often do not.

This is why a candidate can win the popular vote and still not win the office in America

  5. @JT... some of us consider Hillary just as vile as Trump.

Hillary has a proven track record of being a very destructive force in the world. Trump so far just talks a lot of crap and is pretty much a rich con man.

The Wall St /investor class, arms manufacturers, etc are just hoping Hillary will get elected. Business as usual.

How has HRC "....a proven track record of being a very destructive force in the world."

What has she done that's been very destructive? She's made some decisions she would like to re-make (such as supporting Cheney's Iraq II war based on faulty evidence). She's human. We've all made decisions we would like to go back and change, whether we're politicians or not.

Saying she's been 'very destructive' is just echoing Fox News and the Republican Attack Machine. Please list one or more things which she's done which have proven to be very destructive." Something tells me you can't.

In case you hadn't noticed, Trump has hired a Goldman Sachs exec to head his efforts to milk a billion or more dollars from very rich Wall Streeters. By doing that, he's blatantly cancelling several promises he made to his sheeple fans.

"In case you hadn't noticed, Trump has hired a Goldman Sachs exec to head his efforts

In case you have not noticed, Goldman Sachs is covering all the bases here.

Goldman Sachs is also Hillary's second largest contributor to her campaign.

And some people actually do not believe that big banks and corporations own our government?cheesy.gif

  6. Unfortunately, cases like this usually go nowhere.

Look at Bush, Cheney and their gang who were all convicted of war crimes in an international court and just chose to ignore it.

    Which international court was that?

In what is the first ever conviction of its kind anywhere in the world, the former US President and seven key members of his administration were today (Friday) found guilty of war crimes.

Bush, Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld and their legal advisers Alberto Gonzales, David Addington, William Haynes, Jay Bybee and John Yoo were tried in absentia in Malaysia.

The trial held in Kuala Lumpur heard harrowing witness accounts from victims of torture who suffered at the hands of US soldiers and contractors in Iraq and Afghanistan.

  7. I have no religion or religious leader.

But I do not believe anyone should be discriminated against solely because of the imaginary friend they choose to worship.

Unfortunately the thousands of terror attacks carried out by Muslims since 9/11 are not imaginary.

    No, not by Muslims.

They were carried out by radical Muslim extremist.

Most Muslims are not radical extremists.

I know a few personally and they are very good, non violent people who want the same safe, peaceful and productive life most people want.

Radical extremist of any sort should be identified and kept from any sensitive situation .

Even radical extremist Christians like KKK members.

Should we target all Christians just because of the horrible things the radical Christian extremist do?

  8. Should anyone be permitted to determine who can do anything based only on their religious beliefs?

    I think not!

But surely that's the whole basis of religion, restricting what people can do according to the dictats of the higher echelons of the specific religion. Consequently observant Moslems don't eat pork or drink alcohol, pray five times a day, exclusively wipe their behinds with their left hand, believe in angels, consider a holiday in Mecca an obligation, &c., &c.. To any rational person it's all ludicrous, but that is what their religious leaders determine.

I have no religion or religious leader.

But I do not believe anyone should be discriminated against solely because of the imaginary friend they choose to worship.

  9. Even if true, carbon credit taxes and globalist government will do nothing to alleviate the "climate change problem".

Why all the anger at "climate deniers".

Whether I accept or deny all the real or bogus reports by paid off "scientists" about mankind's contribution to climate change, I can clearly see the offered solutions as a means of further enslavement of humanity's masses under globalist elite rule.

Carbon Tax Credits are no solution to the problem.

They are just one more way to make money off the self inflected problem that is caused by a lust for money.

    And the beat goes on.....

  11. Now that several posters have mentioned it, I must agree..

The overwhelming number of people who discuss the change in government and seem to even paying attention to it,

are expat posters here on Thaivisa.

The Thai people I know are not really concerned about it.

For them, life goes on much the same as before and they don't make a big deal about it.

Maybe we expats should follow their lead.

After all, it is their country and their government,

    not our's.

  12. A friend of mine has one and let me take it for a spin. If you know what to expect then you'll enjoy it. Fun little bike that I imagine would be great for running errands on.

    Thanks for the input.

That is pretty much what I expect.

150 cc is not large enough to be a real touring bike,

I doubt I would ever take it further than about 30 km, and not that far very often.

At my age, ( 63 0 even on a big bike, my back starts killing me after about 50 km!

but it does look like fun, and I do like the way it looks.

  13. i hope the father in law does not see these bikes.

bang goes his pension if he does.

just looks cool in the cafe style.

There is no father in law or pension involved at all here.

This is not about my family or anyone's family.

I was asking if you know anything about the bike!

    Thanks anyway!wai.gif

  14. looks nice, worry about your mrs bottom sitting pillion, not comfy i think.

i have a spare side car to go with it for sale.

onya willy, be interested on the reviews.

I don't care much for the "hard tail" either,

but I checked it out and if comes off by removing two small bolts and reveals the rest of the soft seat.

  15. I am very close to purchasing a Stallions Cafe Mega motorcycle.

It is made in Thailand, 150cc, and has a retro style I like a lot.

I'm tired of scooters and want a tank between my knees again.

I thought it may be a good idea to ask if any TV members have any experience with this brand and model.

and ask for opinions, good or bad.

Looks like I will be paying about 65,000 to my local dealer in Korat for one.

    Any input?

  16. Interesting..

I live in the northeast and people here really do not seem to care much one way or the other.

Live for the common person has not changed much at all since the change in government.

People are too busy with their daily lives, feeding the family, worrying about the weather and working on their farms to pay much attention

Life goes on, and it's really pretty much the same.

  17. Err, it's called "means testing", and the way to do it is look at the taxation records of people - then you know their income so you can arrive at a system which is fair and reasonable.

Problem with Thailand is that they don't have a fully functioning tax system, so that normal means testing won't work. Other ways will need to be worked out.

I do applaud the thinking however.

He's talked about it, now extract the digit and do it! Make it happen.

May I ask what benefit a change would make to you?

The benefit this would be for me, is that my poor, elderly Mother in law may have a little more money each month.

It would not alter the amount of assistance I provide to her,

but I know she would feel a little more comfortable.

This would make me feel good, and feeling good is a benefit!

I also know other Thai elders ( who I do not assist ) that would live just a little better if this happened...

The 600 a month they receive now is just enough to pay for the monthly water and electric bills.

and I do not think it will harm those who own Mercedes.

I am an American expat, but not a Republican.

    Can you tell?
