  1. So having robbed the budgets, to help pay for the laptops, the Minister now wants parents to top-up the money available to run schools, rather than get them what they need to do their work properly ?

    Yay for Red-Shirt Education ! wink.pngcool.png

Suchart said yesterday: "I am not going to call it 'tea money'. I will call it 'a donation”.

That says it all! Don’t most of Thai politicians, Cops and Civil Servants share his perception?

Get it in your head! That is what they have in mind when they talk about “Thainess” and “Thai culture.”

Makes it hard to keep face, NO?

  2. Andrew Drummond / Dummy is in love with her. Besides, it is the Thai way for the man to have mia nois, but not the woman. So why would she complain.

Perhaps it's the Thai way in Thailand but their home was in Scotland!

So, when Thais are outside of Thailand their own culture does not apply?

Get serious, this was not a Thai/Thai marriage in Thailand where a culture such as you describe MIGHT apply, it was a Thai/Scottish marriage in Scotland where it certainly does not apply. You may have had a stronger argument if the groom had been Thai and living in Scotland he chose to continue with his homeland tradition, but for a Scottish husband to suddenly assume a Thai tradition in his home country is stretching the envelope just a few miles too far!

They were married twice in Thailand. That is what farangs expect when they marry a Thai girl, for her to behave as Thai culture has raised her. They can get the other kind(gold diggers) in their home country, but you knew that already.

  3. Try #471 for starters, everyone else should try reading this: http://www.andrew-dr...ory.php?sid=490 - the UK courts may not agree to her comming back but the Eurpoean Court has agreed to hear her appeal, guess where that will lead. Also, for those who have automatically accused her of adultry you should perhaps lend at least a little credance to her version of events involving Turkish cruises for starters.

  4. The everybody loves Canada, is exporting asbestos as if it is cotton candy.

"In 1997, Canada exported 430,000 tonnes of asbestos - more than 96% of production - most of it to the developing world. Canada is the world's second-largest exporter of asbestos after Russia."

    http://www.twnside.o...e/deadly-cn.htm

The kid is trying to protect Canadian interests. I have no problem with them making asbestos but if they have bad safety and employees get killed because of it. Then yes jail them. If you know something is bad for the employees and you don't put some measures in place then yes your accountable.

The tin CANs are exporting it, it is illegal to use it in CAN land. They are knowingly exporting death in the form of asbestos.

  5. If you'd all just read what's written thus far you'd see that she's in Japan at a conference!

What's the source of that information?

  6. Yes, they most probably would have left her alone. Their intent was to target foreign tourists walking alone and apparently quite good at it.

Do any domestic thai tourist walk alone?

We are all entitled to live in our own reality.

google 'chinese tourist chang mai gang of friends to assault foreign tourists'

  7. 20 successful attacks would mean they had been able to determine the difference quite well, probably from studying the area and the tourists. There is more than just visual and voice indicators that you are a foreign tourists. And since they wanted big baht for drugs and clubbing, they would want to make sure they picked a tourist most likely to be carrying big baht. Do you see any Thai citizen tourists "walking alone" from OP?

My point exactly. The likely didn't know this was a tourist from China or any other foreign tourist. You are assuming they were all foreign tourists with no proof of such and given what we know from this OP, it would indicate they were not specifically targeting foreign tourists. I also believe you are giving drug addicts too much credit in being able to identify a Chinese Tourist from that of a Thai-Chinese tourist from out of the area ... this is something that would be difficult, if not impossible, for a non-doped-up and knowledgeable person to do.

This type of crime is near impossible to solve quickly, in any country, unless they police get a lucky break ... such as video of one of the suspect and even then they often need to turn to the press to determine who the suspect is. These types of crimes are random, happen fast, are done in different locations and times, where the criminal has easy and fast means of escape and there is usually nothing left behind from the suspect to provide clues of his/her identity.

I'm a bit confused as to the walking alone comment. Are you suggesting that foreign tourists are more likely to walk alone than a Thai tourist?

There is no proof they were not foreign tourists, and the OP alludes they were.

The OP says they targetted tourists walking alone, do thia tourists walk alone?

I am not sure where it alludes they were all foreign. Can you point this out to me?

Again, I am very confused as to what appears to be your belief that Thai tourists don't walk alone but foreign tourists do.

I have no idea if they were all foreign tourists but given what I have read it would appear they were not selectively targeting foreign tourists and there really would be little reason to do such. There are plenty of Thai tourists, who carry somewhat large money amounts on this person, and they simply would be looking for easy marks who such as this women, who would not be able to be identified as being from China based on this report, walking alone. But lets suppose she had a sign on that specified her country of origin ... do you believe they would have left her alone if she was Thai-Chinese?

Yes, they most probably would have left her alone. Their intent was to target foreign tourists walking alone and apparently quite good at it.

  8. The difficulty here is in defining who is a prostitute and who isn't. My first encounter with my Thai wife was a financial one, in other words I paid her to have sex with me. But I could just have easily have become married to an estate agent, a hotel receptionist, a manager of an Internet cafe or an optician. I did not pay for sex with them, but all these ladies had one thing in common, they intended to meet and marry a farang to improve their lives and the lives of their families. All are graduates including my spouse. They were from Chonburi, Sri Racha, Bangkok, Phuket and Khorat so no preponderance of Isaan

Can you truly differentiate between these 5 ladies? At the end of the day they will all cost you money in one way or another.

But that's life. Ladies from all parts of the globe sell their bodies in one guise or another. Even women who are of independent means often turn to their male partners for financial support.

Prostitution is here to stay. In UK it's endemic. The important thing is to make sex as safe as possible, and to try to dissuade very young people from engaging in it.

Yes, good observations. A good friend of mine, who is the director of a major foundation here in Bangkok, that helps women infected with HIV told me that per capita, there are more than double the amount of woman involved in the sex trade in the US, than there is here in Thailand. But, the problem is that it is so far underground, that most people do not see it, and therefore assume it does not exist. But there are hundreds of thousands of people invoiced in porn, and I estimate a couple of million escorts and strippers. Also, in the US you cannot get laid, without putting out cash for dinners, gifts and prizes. So, even the normal gals there have a price. It is just less honest, since it is not stated up front. When I was dating back there I often thought it would be a good idea, to bring along a pen and a notebook, hand it to the woman, and ask her for an estimate, of what she thought it was going to end up costing me to get some action.

In Thailand, for instance, a survey in 1990 found that 75 percent of Thai men had had sex with child prostitutes

  9. That is a bit of a leap. It is highly doubtful they would be targeting Thai tourists "to get money to buy drugs and go out clubbing."

Really? How do you suggest they knew this was a Chinese tourist as they approached and attacked her from a motorbike? Maybe before clubbing here on the head they first ask her to speak to verify she was not Thai-Chinese.

  10. Everyone knows that Malaysia has the death penalty for this. She was not forced into it. She knew exactly what she was doing, tossed the dice and scored the death penalty. Can't change the rules of the game just because you lost. She has no one to blame but herself, she decided her own fate it was all 100% in her own hands.

do you think she deserves to die?

She knew the law and the consequences and gambled with her own life. She entered into the contract and lost so the answer is YES.

brilliant... so you obviously think that an Iranian woman who has an affair deserves to be stoned to death....

She knew the law and the consequences and gambled with her own life. She entered into the affair and got caught so the answer is... YES???

Worse than that, she could be attacked and raped, but unless she has 4 or5 male witnesses, she cannot prove rape and so will be found guilty of sex outside of marriage and stoned to death, while the rapist goes free to rape again. It is a rapist paradise.

Pakistani women speak up on rape under islamic law

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/4271504.stm Pa

Uzma Saeed is campaigning for the repeal of the controversial Hudood laws, which rule that all extra-marital sex is illegal.

Hudood laws are a tool in the hands of men - with these laws they can rape women and be totally unaccountable.

Under Hudood if a woman makes a rape allegation she must provide four pious male witnesses or face a charge of adultery herself.

So a woman is in the ridiculous position of having to produce four Muslim adult male eyewitnesses, men who just stood there and watched.

If sex by force is not proved, this woman can be charged with "zina" - sex outside of marriage.

Uzma Saeed believes the Hudood ordinances should be repealed

About 60% of women in our jails have been imprisoned as a result of Hudood laws.

I know many cases where a husband has wanted to marry again and so accused his wife of illicit relations with another man.
