HSBC sold all their retail activities to Krungsri Bank a couple of years back so you will not find any branches in HH or the rest of Thailand anymore.
They only kept their corporate banking business.

As opposed to a 'fake' estate agent?
A bit more detail would help. Kids age, language spoken etc.
Our son is 6 months old and we plan on being here for a couple of years. Its an english language forum, just figured that was assumed.
I've actually lived at Home In Park before and other than long drive, quite enjoyed it. Are there other locations that are a bit closer to town?
Thanks
SM
You could also check Ban Nai Fan 2, about 4 KM closer to town on Canal road from Home in Park.

I have Sinet and I get my maximum speed (20 Mbps) when downloading from newsgroups, can watch Netflix in HD and friends of mine who live abroad are able to watch streaming content from my Plex movie server. So upload speed must be pretty decent as well. I applied at Airport plaza and they pulled a cable from their nearest hub and hooked me up in 24 hours.

I just moved to Chiang Mai from Penang and find the heat here much more bearable. In Penang we had in the hot season often about 35 Celsius and humidity around 80-90%, that completely wears you out.

There is a Facebook group for selling Chiang Mai used motorbikes:

Hi, we cruised around different neighbourhoods a few months back before we moved to Chiang Mai. After years in high rise apartments in Penang and Singapore we wanted a detached house not to far from the city centre. After several days of driving around the different area's we found that Mae Hia, just south west of the airport, ticked most of the boxes. Since a few weeks we live in a Moo Baan close to the Royal Park Rajapruek and very much enjoy this location. Close to nature for cycling and hiking and just a short drive to Nimman road for bars and restaurants. There are also plenty of restaurants in the neighbourhood and Mae Hia wet market and the shops around it cover our daily needs. Tesco, Macro and Big-C are all nearby as well.
For me it has a country feel but keep in mind I have lived in big cities for the last 30 years so might be easy pleased.
I also like this area for it's proximity to the mountain side.

There is a veterinarian clinic on Chang Klang road, if you come from Pantip Plaza right behind the 7/11 on your right hand side.

Even though I got a pop-up I should use the latest IE browser I could open the page without trouble on my Mac with Safari Version 8.0.3.
Page was loading fast and I stopped on the part where you actually fill in the form.

Great post Winnie, thanks a lot.

Firstly, the police are not going to give any feedbacks as to their strategy regarding the Loi Kroh Road and surrounding areas. I can tell you to expect many more random police checks in the future and that the whole area is under scrutiny. These directive are coming from the top.
Unfortunately the situation is not going to improve and I can foresee the eventual closing down of most of the adult entertainment venues in Chiang Mai. Even as far afield as Chiang Mai Land has not escaped the clampdowns. The police are now looking for any excuses to close down these establishments, it`s just a matter of time, so the word is; abide by the rules as much as possible, don`t get caught out, otherwise they`ll close you down without hesitation.
It had better improve when the Cricket Sixes arrive or that tournament (or the teams) will probably move elsewhere next year.
That argument is as predictable as the 'it will kill tourism' argument that surfaces every time there is a crackdown. Being able to drink till midnight is probably the norm in most countries and is not a factor as to whether somebody visits a place or not. If it were true then nobody would ever go to Laos, right? I'm surprised that the golden goose hasn't been mentioned yet.
I will see your "golden goose" and raise you "another nail in the coffin".

The Yeng Keng Hotel is on Chulia street, it's rather new and it is a renovated Chinese mansion. Very well done. The restaurant on site is pretty good and does Hainanese food.

Thanks Ubonjoe,
Is it a requirement that the funds for the original Non Immigrant O multiple entry visa are in Thai Baht ?
I have had AU$100,000 (approx 2.5 million THB) in a Malaysian bank for the past 6 months waiting for the exchange rate to improve.
Can I use my bank statements to obtain the visa or do I have to transfer to my Thai bank and then wait 2 months ?
Cheers,
BB
If I recall correctly Penang just want to see the equivalent of 400k baht anywhere to get a multiple entry non-o. If you put in a Thai band it would not need to be there for 2 months.
The 2 months is only for applying for an extension of stay here.
When I was at the Thai consulate in Penang a few weeks ago to find out what I should bring to get a Non-O the gave me this flyer.
They verbally added that I could also apply with the funds I have in my local (Malaysian) bank account but in that case I would only get a single entry.
-
Hi I saw as well that several visa agents in Penang state on their website you need to be 55. I live in Penang so went to the consulate to ask about it and there they told me it's 50 and above. They also told me that if you have the 800k for 3 months on a Thai bank account you can get a multi entry Non-O.

Thanks for the replies and PM's.
I'm not in Chiang Mai yet but will move there in a few months and posted because I'm trying to find out if I better buy a set where I live now or wait and buy in CM once I'm there.
I think I will do the latter.

Hi
Where would be a good place to look for a beginners golf set in CM?
Any idea of expected prices?
I had a look in some shops in Central festival but found prices there on the high side compared to what I saw in Singapore.
Thanks. -
What I understand is that you have to have a proper business in Thailand to be applicable for these low ASEAN import duties.
I want to import used household goods from Malaysia to Thailand but have been told that I have to pay full import duties because it's a private person importing.

Direct payment from your bank is the way to go with the electric bill .The others not so important. Rather annoying that if you go away on holidays, despite living in the same place for years, that they will cut off your supply but they do.Its not like they have any opposition. You might want to consider direct payment of utilities from your bank account to avoid such issues in the future if you are a homeowner. We have used for past 20 years without issues. This is a bill you do not want to go unpaid.
Re: direct payment from bank account. Do you set this up at the Bank, the PEA office, or thru ones' online banking site?
It seems you can do it online here but instructions are all in Thai:
