  1. If you want a cheap reasonable quality car then look at the Protons. 2nd hand, 2008-9 start at about 140k baht. http://www.taladrod.com/w20/Search/TbSch3F_40.aspx#mk:52

They are Malaysian made cars and made out of tinfoil, even in Malaysia everybody with a bit of money and safety concerns avoids them like the plague. I have seen several smallish accidents here where the Proton was a total loss and the other vehicle got away with some scratches.

  2. I am very curious why anyone would go stand in line in a crowded Immigration office for 90 day reporting when the mail in service is simple and much more convenient.

There is no way that my passport is going into the postal service or to a visa agent either. This week Immigration has been very busy because next Monday and Tuesday are public holidays. And still the staff were very effective and polite when I went in Tuesday.

AFAIK you don't have to post your passport, just copies:

  3.

Mate another thing, just for you know in Asia there is a general ban about people looking like a hippie, so flowers "el Che" "Marley" dreadlocks so many colors or tattoos or a long or strange beard with sandals etc can give that impression and is not a joke, you will see in many frontiers the description of a hippie and you can get a bad ban, before 1 year ago I help an Argentinian that was banned from Korea and send back to Thailand and forced to go back to Argentina.

    Check this tread http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/586380-getting-refused-entry-to-thailand-help-needed/page-3#entry5705848

Back in the good old days visa runners used to get S.H.I.T. stamped in their passport at the Malaysian border.

    Suspected Hippie In Transit.

I think that happened only in Singapore.

  4. I would fly them tomorrow but would not book a ticket to far ahead because they probably will get bust over the next months (at least that seems to be the general consensus here in Malaysia).

It probably will be a controlled bankrupt and a same day restart but no guaranties.

  5. Both Cameron Highlands and Malacca aren't really day trips, each are about 5 hours drive one way.

For a day trip you could go to Taiping a nice little city just a one hour drive south of Penang. There is a zoo and the Lake Gardens (former tin mines) are very nice, it's the first Public Garden in Malaysia and dates from 1880.

For excellent seafood go to nearby Kuala Sepetang. On your way there you will pass Matang Mangrove Forest Reserve, also a good stop to spend an hour or so.

If you want to go to a Hill station try nearby Bukit Larut, formerly known as Maxwell Hill Founded in 1884, it is the oldest hill resort in Malaysia at an altitude of 1000 meter.

If you do make sure you bring an umbrella, it's the wettest spot in Malaysia.

  6. In any event, have you researched what effect your new found residence in Thailand will have on your MYS .

If he has a MM2H visa It will have no effect on it. They don't care if you have other visa's for other countries, after all it's a SECOND home visa.

It's very straight forward, after meeting the financial requirements you get a 10 year visa. No 90 day reporting, no need of entry permits.

Main set back is that it is a Malaysian visa wink.png

  7. Officially It's Bumi vs non-Bumi but according to the current government Bumi = Malay = Muslim = UMMO.

On top of that it has become clear that the decisions made by the Sharia court go above the high court, not according to the constitution but in practice it happens because if the two contradict high court resolutions are not enforced.

Also several cabinet ministers have expressed that Malaysia is an Islamic state and Non-Muslims have to deal with that, again this is not written in the constitution but they don't seem to care about such formalities.

  8. Have a good time in Singapore! Agree on your comment Malaysia is in decline. I'm living in Penang and have lived in Singapore as well, still often come there. Although Penang isn't as worse as KL in terms of (police) corruption and crime the country as a whole starts to appall me, especially the way non-Muslims are treated compared to Muslims. There is definitely a two tier system in terms of human rights and justice.

Next stop will be Thailand, Chiang Mai.

    Google Translate:

Aliens who travel to Thailand without a visa exemption for Tourism of the Ministry of Interior said. Will be permitted to stay in Thailand for a period not exceeding 30 days unlimited number of times. Unless you enter immigration checkpoint at the borders with neighboring countries. (The border by land) will be allowed to stay for 15 days, unless the Malaysian immigration checkpoint to enter the contact zone with Malaysia. (The border by land) will be allowed to reside at the cluster of up to 30 days.

    This is dated 8 May 2557 (2014)

Not sure how to read this but it looks like they are saying all passport holders of visa exempted countries get 30 days at the Malaysian border?

  10. hi Again

Just a follow up to my recent posting on retirement experience yesterday

Just looked up translation of thai national anthem

First two verses Thailand embraces in its bosom all people of thai blood

Every inch of thailand belongs to the Thais

After reading this translation i find it even more bizzare that falangs at immigration were asked to stand for national anthem !!!!1

If you remain seated, especially in a public place, you're likely to be berated for ill-manners.

We are guests in their country, their king.

Guest should be someone welcome, respected and free of charge but we bring a lot of money here and we help to develop the country too. we aren't migrants come to exploiting the country or looking for a better life like burmese or cambodians...

Respect can be earned by standing up for the host country national anthem for example.

  11. You do not get a OA visa here. You apply for a one year extension of stay based upon retirement.at immigration.

You should get a single entry non immigrant O visa before arriving at one of the honorary consulates in the US.

Or if not then a single entry tourist visa. The after arriving you would apply for a change of visa status to obtain a 90 day non immigrant visa entry. You would need to have the 800k baht in a Thai bank in your name only or 65k baht income proven by an income affidavit from the US embassy or a combination of the two totaling 800k baht.

If you have the non immigrant O visa or have done the change of visa status you would do the extension of stay based upon retirement.during the last 30 days of your 90 day entry. At that time the 800k baht would have to be in the bank for 60 days. Or the same proof of income or the combination of funds needed for the change.

Hi Udonjoe, do I read correct that a non-imm O visa can be changed direct to a 1 year extension of stay based on retirement (provided the 800K are in the country for at least 60 days), opposed to a single entry tourist visa where the process always is in two steps?

  12. Mike2011, seems you don't know much about Walen School. We already have a large number of students who happily study Thai or English and who don't have any visa problems. No need to criticize Walen too much as one day you may need a quality service from a reliable school and then you will be happy that there is a school like Walen. All the best to you.

Sent from my GT-I9190 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

Don't know what people are having a go at Walen school.
Could be because of the number of times the same 'suggestion' has been posted in the same thread... And yes, I do realize that he is paying for that privilege.

Given MacWalens comments in this topic I understand the hostility he encounters on this forum a lot better.
