  1. The "Phuket Sandbox" could be cancelled at any time.

      • The reopening will be canceled or halted if any of the following happens:
        • New infections in Phuket reach 90 cases per week; the island reported 13 cases during June 11-17
        • Infections are found in all three districts and more than six sub-districts on the island
        • More than three clusters of infections are detected
        • Hospitalization rate reaches 80% of the island’s capacity
        • New variants spread to an uncontrollable level

Its closer to Patong and less expensive then Rawai. And Kathu its more centrally then Kamala.

If you're travelling from Kathu to Patong, be very careful on Patong Hill. A combination of a steep hill, winding road and heavy traffic have resulted in a lot of deaths.

As Kathu doesn't have a beach, it's less geared towards tourists than Patong, Kamala, Karon etc.

You're going to have to stay in an SHA+ hotel for your first 2 weeks regardless, so why not hire a bike/car and spend a few days looking for a villa in Patong or nearby? I'm fairly certain you will be able to negotiate a big discount meeting the villa owner in person, armed with a stack of 1000 baht notes.

Having reports circulate just yesterday citing Tourism Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn saying that Phuket “will not be ready” for July 1 would have deterred any prospective tourists from making any decisions of travel to Phuket

Wasn't Thaivisa themselves responsible for those reports? I didn't see any other media outlet report this, apart from Thaiger who quoted Thaivisa as their source.

If anyone else knows different, please let me know.

Yesterday BBC reporting 42 deaths in England of the Covid Delta variant and that almost half of the people who have died of the Delta variant were vaccinated!

This is the short clip of the actual announcement on BBC. Notice how confused the newsreader is:

    https://twitter.com/i/status/1403830591301242883

It's a dumb statistic, because far more UK adults have been vaccinated than not - 78%.

There are 54 million adults in the UK, 78% of them is 42.12 million. The remaining 22% represents 11.88 million.

19 died who had received at least 1 vaccine - 19/42.12 million = 0.45 deaths per million people

23 died who had received no vaccine - 23/11.88 million = 1.93 deaths per million people

    1.93 / 0.45 = 4.29

So from this small sample of 42 deaths, unvaccinated people were 4.29 times more likely to die than vaccinated people.

Swissport is a vendor for all kinds of ground and cargo handling services

Let KLM know their subcontractor is doing a crack all job (not)

Swissport Intl certainly won't be forwarding any customer complaints to the desk of Pieter Elbers, I would.

I'm sure [email protected] would be interested to hear about this issue.

Once the result is safe, on the 15th day tourists can continue traveling throughout Thailand.

Phiphat said that the proposed Samui Sealed Route model will be announced on July 1, 64, with Phuket, is unlikely to be able to do so in time. But will try to push in the Cabinet meeting and the CCP to announce Samui Sealed Route on August 1, 64 with the following guidelines when tourists come to Phuket.

He's not talking about specific brands.

The US said they will donate hundreds of millions of doses to COVAX program, which Thailand did not sign as the only country in SEA. Covax is the worldwide vaccination program which europe also donated billions of dollars too, but thailand was too arrogant to sign up to it unlike pretty much every other country.

Thus he thinks Thailand won't get any of those shipments, due to its own arrogance.

I know. In a previous thread, I referred to "US vaccines", and "shdmn" jumped in and gave me a big lecture about how "Pfizer is not a US vaccine".

Skip forward a few days, and shdmn does the very thing that he lectured me about. I understand that "US vaccines" is a useful shorthand for a group of vaccines approved by the US, he does not.

Last I heard Thailand is still negotiating with Pfizer for 20 million which they will be paying for.  The US ones would be free if they get any.  I think the October timeframe is for getting the first shipments of Moderna.  I think they can probably get some Pifzer jabs much sooner than that once they make a deal and approve it.

What do you mean, "The US vaccines"? You made a big song and dance about  how the Pfizer vaccine "wasn't a US vaccine", despite the fact that I never mentioned Pfizer in my post (I link to your post below).

The vaccine commonly known as "Johnson & Johnson" was developed by the Dutch company formerly known as Crucell, so that can't be a US vaccine.

Going by your logic, the US only has 1 vaccine, Moderna, so your reference to "The US ones" is nonsense.

Just about everything else you said is also wrong but I won't bother wasting any more keystrokes since you are too busy waving your flag around to listen. Remember saying that?

    Headline:

BANGKOK, June 10 (TNA) – Thai Airways International (THAI) will operate on 16 routes to Asian, European and Australian destinations in July – September.

But the full report doesn't mention Australia.

And what's the significance of July to September?

Right at the end of the article it says:

    Quote

For Australia, THAI will operate 2 flights a week on Bangkok-Sydney route.

July - September is the 3rd quarter of the year, perhaps THAI plans its flights one quarter at a time.

I object to be called "Farang". If you need where it came from you would. When was the last time you called a black man "<deleted>"?

I think there is a difference between a Thai person calling me "farang" as an insult, and using the word "farang" as a generic term for foreigners.

What word do you think Thai people should use when talking about non-Thais? Should they not be allowed to have a word in case you get offended?

Here's the most comprehensive FAQ I've seen about the Phuket Sandbox.  Nothing in it is official as nothing has been approved by the CCSA and published in the Gazette.  Nonetheless, it seems to represent the current state of play in the proposal, including some details I haven't seen anywhere else.

The report marked that so far 322,373 people in Phuket had received their first injection, with a further 98,589 having received two injections.

Are Thais allowed to leave the Island vaccinated or not ?

why impose these restrictions on foreigners that have been fully vaccinated ?

sounds stupid doesn't it - because it is

They're screwing up the "Phuket Sandbox", as I suspected they would. There will be more restrictions to follow.

And wait until you see the list of all the countries that are banned from visiting ...

Just register everywhere free or not.  When you get an appointment go get it.  So what if it's not the vaccine you want.  They all still provide protection.  You can always get another shot of a more preferable kind down the road when they are more widely available although you will probably have to pay.  Those prices will probably go down as availability goes up so it would be better to wait awhile anyways.

That's a great idea. I think I'll spend a week driving around Bangkok registering at dozens of hospitals and clinics, wasting everybody's time.
