Where in Phuket are you? I have a Thai chef friend who might well be interested in this, but she wouldn't want to travel too far.
-
I know some of the teachers there - apparently the atmosphere is very pleasant and friendly. This is Kajonkiet Cherngtalay BTW.
One of the teachers there is a close friend - when we "talk shop", her stories are always about how much she enjoys teaching the kids, and very little in the way of office politics, problems with Thai staff etc.
I don't think the stress levels there are higher than any other comparable job. As I said, I know many of the KJK staff, and I find them a very friendly group of people to socialize with.

Have a look about the many IT stalls on the top floor of Jungceylon. Some cheap deals there.
Good idea - thanks LIK.

I'm looking for a dirt-cheap mp3 player (1000 Baht or so) - I'm going on a long journey and I want to have some music.
Does anybody know a shop around the Patong area that would sell me an mp3 player at a reasonable price? Failing that, knowing about a good electronics shop anywhere in Phuket would be helpful.

OK, so:
1) Company applies for work permit
2) Letter of approval received from Labor Ministry
3) Get all required paperwork from company
4) Travel out of the country to apply for a Non-B
Does this sound right? The contract would be for 1 year initially.
Do you know roughly how many days it takes from applying for a work permit to receiving the letter?
Thank you ubonjoe!

Speak with the companies HR department. It should be their responsibility to assist you.

I agree. But I have been in a similar situation before a couple of years ago. The HR department in question gave me the wrong documents, and I could not get the the Non-B visa I needed in Penang.
I would rather not take the risk a second time.

I have been offered a job at a large company in Thailand.
I am currently on the first half of a Double entry Tourist Visa - it expires in 2 weeks, so I will probably need to get a month's extension from the Immigration Office.
What procedure should I be following to get the Non-O and Work Permit required? The company offering me the job should (in theory) be able to organise all the necessary documents, but I would like to have some expert advice.

No it wouldn't! If they can't hang cables in the air, what do you think would happen if they buried them?? Everything would short to earth and they'd be digging them up all the time!
Well, I can see where you're coming from Jimi, but most 1st world nations seem to get along just fine with buried cables.
-
Burying the cables in the ground would improve reliability no end.
It would certainly help Phuket look more beautiful.

You don't know how many visa and exemptions you have? You can't remember if it's 1 or 2 visa's even?? Wow, when the IO starts asking you questions, you better have better answers than that. If I were you, I would not leave anything in Thailand that I wanted to see again.
If I drove home to get my passport and gave you the exact details of all my passport stamps, would you have something helpful to say to me? I'm betting the answer is no. Why do people like you bother posting here?

Would it kill you to spend a week in Cambodia? Laos? Burma? Malaysia? Real tourists actually spend more than 20 minutes in those countries and survive quite well. I am really confident if you stayed awhile, you would have no probs.
'nuff said

My Thai girlfriend might kill me ... and no, I have no intention of marrying her right now.

Thanks ubonjoe.
If I do my second entry before August the 12th, I would only have a few weeks to plan ahead - booking flights etc. But I will certainly keep checking the latest reports on thaivisa.
-
how many back to back visa and exemptions do u have previous to this visa?
Maybe 1-2 Double Tourist Visas and 3-4 exemptions. Plus several more in my previous passport, if they are checking historic records.
-
I got a Double Entry Tourist Visa from Vientiane, Laos, 6 weeks ago. I am planning on extending the visa by 30 days at Phuket immigration office. My current stamp expires at the beginning of August, so assuming I get an extension, my next stamp would be valid until the beginning of September.
What is the best way for me to activate the second half of my Tourist Visa?
Should I try to get the second half before August the 12th to increase my chances of getting back into Thailand?

Patong is 15min away, plenty of gyms there..

I knew the gender of two of my four kids before the ultrasound check
Woah - so you were correct 50% of the time?!!
Truly, you have the gift of second sight ...
If you would have taken the time to read the full text of my posts, you would have realized that I did neither claim to have prophetic powers nor did I try to self indulge in "see what I can do!"... Taking a quote or a sentence out of the whole text and turning it against the author is something bad media and politicians do, nothing to be proud of. You have just discredited yourself by showing that you are unable to see (and read) the whole picture.
My apologies. I was hoping to convey gentle humor - it was not intended to cause any offence, and I'm sorry if it did.
There is some scientific evidence suggesting that some women can predict the sex of their children - it's an interesting mystery.
Have a good day.

There was trash coating the entire length of it. None of the beaches will ever return to nature.
Every single wave line is marked with a line with tiny pieces of plastic- another couple of years and the sea will be dead. The baby turtle releases should be stopped, no way those creatures have a chance of surviving in that soup.
You should organize a clean-up of the beach - it's obvious that you care about Phuket very much.

The interest rate reflects the risk ... nobody remember the banking crisis of 2008?
Icesave was massively popular in the UK. It was offering 6% shortly before savers lost all their money ...

The project is NOT virtually the same as before. The budget that was going to be allocated was a special one which means that no transparent accounting would have been done. The high speed train project is not needed and was very expensive. (฿2.2 BILLION).
I don't know, 2.2 Billion Baht for a high-speed train sounds like a pretty good deal to me. Was it a high-speed model railway?

But what about the ne'er-do-wells?
What! And let all the scoundrels, ruffians and rogues get clean away? Also swiftly arrest any ragamuffins, rascals and whippersnappers ASAP!!!

Thai officials defend buying costly Government House microphones
in Thailand News
Posted · Edited by nkg
Everybody seems desperate to paint the Thais as either unsophisticated or corrupt.
How would you react to news that the White House or Downing Street were spending $1.5 million on an AV system? Would you be outraged? According to you lot, the Thai government should be buying their microphones at Toys R Us.
