When I lived in north Phuket, I lived a few hundred meters away from Thai ex #3 and also a few hundred meters in the other direction from Thai ex #2.  Both had small hotels (10 rooms) that I built for them and I lived in my own little guesthouse in the middle.

This worked out fine (for me), because I was able to pop over to see each ex, do any repairs etc that were needed and so on.

The fly in the ointment was that these 2 exes hated each other!! - a lot of jealousy between them.  I ended up as 'piggy in the middle' 🙂

Did you ever get 'properly' between them, Simon?

  2. You’re paying for their time and making the bar more money. It’s probably 140 baht and up nowadays—a lot more in Bkk, Phuket and esp gogo bars anywhere. Rarely indulge or even do those bars, but each to their own. The worst is if a guy is clearly looking for company, they feign interest to get the drink, then immediately switch off or work someone else for more drinks simultaneously. Avoid the pretty ones. 😋

  3. Mike has the measure of it, but I wouldn't assume all those 'bored' looking girls in HomePro are single. Very unlikely, or at least unlikely to not have love interests. They are mostly about commissions there and are big on cust service. Don't forget that Thais are supremely polite in that type of setup and it is easy to assume the attention you get is 100% genuine and that you could rock-on in short order.

Having said that, this is still one of the best places for getting hooked up. Forgetting P4P tourist areas for a bit, regards 'genuine' girls here, it is all about first appearances... same anywhere I guess, but esp in Asia! Don't worry about age, but being clean and well attired is an absolute must. You might not need Thai, but having nice shoes (especially), along with a collar and smile can work wonders.

Dunno the full story, but a guy in the above scenario strolling into a store here looking for action would have a markedly different success rate if he walked in with t-shirt, shorts and flip-flops compared with slacks, shirt and shiny shoes. You are halfway there without saying anything.

  4. Probably not if you're in a touristy area or Bangkok, but it is nice to be able to speak rudimentary Thai at least to people while on a road trip, example. Or if you're in a jam or a delivery driver calls etc etc. Each to their own, but not as necessary as it might have been. You'll soon all be speaking it if immigration make you sing the anthem and favourite Thai song for your visa though. 😛

  5. Shove it!

#1 Aside from China's overtures at general expansion, who's likely to attack Thailand to warrant others coming to the rescue?

#2 What are the odds of one off these others getting attacked and Thailand having to send it's troops?

#3 It would seriously upset China.

#4 It would especially upset Pootin.

Those who's sons are currently serving or who are reserves should be nervous at any sort of move to that club.

  6. It’s to show everyone that the man is worthy to take their daughter. However, an Isaan gal with grandkids is proper tainted and shouldn’t require anything. Unless she is a stunner in a class family with a good job, the guy is a sucker. The family should be paying the him since he will be looking after them all!

They would love that. It’s not about putting ‘humans’ up there or the betterment of mankind, it is ALL ABOUT CHINA. Easy to mock the Thais, I get that, however there are some very clever blokes and firms in both nations, but I wish Thailand wouldn’t get dragged along by them. There’s always an ulterior motive.

Wow...drug dealers and murderers have got out with far less and sometimes with no jail time. Guess they want to get back at the rich maybe ? But what about all those fine young ladies of 30 years old who scam the guilable falang retiree boyfriend-sponsor ?

Always the same. You can take a country, impoverish and/or slay thousands, just don’t steal esp from banks or the wrong people. No time for thieves either though, so good enough.

  9. Yes, foreigners are causing issues in Phuket at the mo it seems, but the they were invited en-masse, visa free, so the powers there will need to suck it up as this is how some of them behave. Driving a car on the sand is hardly worthy of this kind of over the top blowback even if they are aggressive Russian or Chinese types. Just fine them and be done with it.

“Passenger service charges soar” Huh? Since when would an increase of 30 baht be considered “soaring”? It’s just clickbait!! Whoever writes these headlines is deliberately trying to provoke a negative reaction and raise our blood pressure! Don’t fall for it, keep smiling 😁

It’s still a 30% increase no matter how you try to dress it up. One should keep an eye on stuff like this—air authorities and governments in particular are sly dogs for extra charges on this and that. As with many things here, prices don’t tend to go up in-kind with inflation. It is opportunism.

Solzhenitsyn is probably the best, and most readable, Russian writer. Remember he suffered tremendous persecution and was sentenced to the Gulags. But he got out of it. We can get out of it too!
