Been trying to do it online for the last few days. Would be very happy if I could even get into the system to let me do it

I keep reading these bad experiences on TV forum ....

*BUT* on 15th (Monday) I went online for very first time, filled out the form and submitted it.  Later around 3pm, on very SAME DAY, I got an email stating that I was approved.  I went back to immigration website, entered in my info to retrieve my approval and then printed them out.  It was fairly straight-forward process.

  2. Apparently, NVidia shield production was impacted by pandemic (although production is now being resumed).  Before the craziness, they were readily available on Lazada (although Thai price were generally 20% or more higher than USA price - but not crazy high, 44000 baht, like the link provided by someone else in this thread).

I live at The Prime 11 on Sukhumvit Soi 11, and I can tell you that our building is 100% fibre optic capable to each rooms as in the last year we upgraded the wiring. Also you have the option to chose which provider you want to use. This is my speed right now using speedtest.net

    Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info.  What package are you subscribed to, if I may ask?  It looks like you are using AIS as ISP.

  4. At my current older condo, we can't get anything above 75-100 mbps connection from any ISPs as the place isn't wired for it with no plan for an change.  I'm wondering if people are aware of condos that are wired for true fiber optic connections (ideally 1 gbps).  I'm currently subscribed to AIS 50/20 package that gets me something between 50-75 mbps.  I used to pay for 75 mbps package but AIS said they don't have that anymore and downgraded me (although I still get decent speed and it's been very very stable with very limited downtime at 399 baht per month).

I think most people that post about high speed internet connections live in a house but would love to be proved wrong about this.

I'm primarily interested in Bangkok but am opened to know about other regions/areas as well.

The maximum is 50k THB (20k USD equivalent in currency without need to declare).  So we have a real Goldilocks situation as far as THB are concerned.  Less than 20k is too little, more than 50k is too much, anything in between is "just right".

I think you flunked math :)  20K USD is over 600,000 THB at current exchange rate.

I don't have/use visa but I am American who travel on US passport and live/work in Singapore.   I have been coming to BKK almost every month since 2012 and have only Thai stamps (probably over 50 entries) on current passport.  I get 30 days visa exemption on arrival and stay for 5 to 10 days.  I have never been asked to show anything except ONE time when a grumpy lady wanted to see my SG employment pass ID.  She wrote down the number next to her stamp.  I do have and keep sufficient "emergency" fund in USD, SGD and THB in my travel organizer permanently for my travels.

  6. It's not about giving money to the family, it's about chipping in to pay for the funeral. The amounts are recorded in a book, and when they come to your event, they are obliged to reciprocate. As well, each household will have 2 small yellow books which record what is paid out, and what is paid back.

Consequently, I generally don't give more than 500, so as not to burden the poorer people. But if they are friends, or doing it hard, I slip them a thousand bypassing the book. Sorry I don't have a pic of the book. Not house book. Smaller.

This has been my experience as well.

People joke around here but a funeral can be very financially stressful time for the living who have to take care of the dead. My experience has been that Thais use very much a "co-op" system to pitch in. Family members pitch in their time and money to take care of the arrangement and everyone who comes to the funeral pitch in financially.

My friend lost two brothers. Both time, she was in charge of taking the envelopes and recording what was contributed to the funeral. The family is expected to return the "favor" when it's their turn; often, returning similar amount of contribution. The ones with means (e.g. bosses or rich ones) tend to contribute more. I don't think these high amounts are expected to be returned.

There are daily costs and arrangements to be made(food, monks) and last day seems to be most expensive (gifts for monks and cremation fee).

I think your contribution should also account for yours or your partner's relationship with the deceased.

  7. I get my sat TV, internet and phone bills by email and pay them using online banking.

Perhaps their are some companies that don't do them by email so I will not comment anymore about it.

I think this is easy if one is setup in Thailand with Thai bank and etc.

I asked True and AIS if I can setup auto pay with Singapore credit card and was told that it wasn't possible. I would be curious to know if anyone setup some sort of auto-pay with foreign credit card.

  8. whistling.gif Good luck, but frankly I doubt that the so-called Elite visa will still be around in 20 years.

based on the previous Thai political history of the last decade or two..

And I may to skeptical, but I don't see Thailand going through another decade without at least one coup.

Make your own choice.....but as I said..... I wouldn't count on another 10 years without at least one coup and the distinct possibility of losing your money.

As the Thai bargirls say.....It up to you, hansum man.

P.S. I have been in Thailand for 4 coups or attempted coups now.

There it is .... an expert opinion from a veteran of 4 coups to divert us from OP!!! rolleyes.gif

  9. Quite often when I go through immigration, the agent flips through my passport, clearly noting the many Thailand entry and exit stamps. But I've never had them say a thing... So if there really is a "6 visa exemption limit", it's quite selectively applied.

I live in Singapore (with USA passport) and come to BKK at least once a month with normal stay being around 5 to 10 days. In last 3+ years of doing this, I have been asked only once for my SG employment information (which she wrote down next to my stamp). Otherwise, it's been fairly quick processing (I go through premier lane with ABTC card).

I assume, in yours and my case, it's due to the fact that we don't stay the full 30 days allocated by the visa exemption.

  10. I wouldn't take FalangBaa too seriously. From his consistently mealymouthed postings, fellow seems to be a bit of a wretch. Possibly has issues for which he's compensating.

Who wants to take anyone named "FalangBaa" seriously? :)
