  1. These imported lenses are not cheap in Thailand, based on my research about a month ago. And, I don't think any lenses are made in Bangkok, but I'm no expert in this field.

There is a place called Opticland on corner of Sukhumvit 29. It's nice shop and the guy speaks very good English. However, good progress lenses were quoted at 20,000 baht .. that plus good frame, I was quoted something like 36,000 baht which is over $1K USD. I've never paid that much for a pair of glasses in my life ... so I didn't pull the trigger. Also there is another shop called V.Siam Optical very close by.

I'm back in Singapore and now am trying to get a quote around here. Based on my experience, anything good quality imported items are not cheap around SE Asia.

  2. I haven't read all the thread, but my two cents worth from personal experience.

I have been carrying way too much weight since being here for almost 6 years and living a sedentary lifestyle. Tipping in at 96 Kgs and a 40 inch waist from years and years of business lunches and dinners I finally decided it was all getting too much and I longed for the trim extremely fit me that used to exist when I was in the Military. That figure seemed long gone. Then.......on Jun 3rd I downloaded and watched a video called 'Fat Sick and Nearly Dead', quite brilliant about a successful Ozzy Trader who filmed himself on a 60 day fresh fruit and veg juice fast. ..

    Good luck.........Bring it on!

I also saw the movie ... the guy Phil in the movie was much more inspirational.

I lost 12+kg in about 6 months by changed what I put into my body and when. I cut out fast food, pizza, fried chicken and such. Also changed when I eat by limiting what I eat in the evening. Now I eat very little or none at night time.

I also "juice" but in moderation. I drink 1/2 green apple + 1/2 carrot juice every day and sip green apple + ginger juice in the morning and evening. I attribute this to not catching cold this year. Most of time, I have either fruit juice or vegi juice made that I drink as well. I just buy whatever I think looks good at the grocery store.

I don't think I do it conscientiously but I also cut out a lot of carbs (less rice, break and potatoes). I think this makes "hunger" much easier to manage.

Now I need to work on getting this thinner body into shape by working out.

  3. Your best bet is online purchase. Ecig is not really "kosher" so it will be bit hard to find B&M shops and I hear they can be very expensive. You need to find a trustworth Thai based vendor who can sell you online. You will have to put the money in his bank account, provide shipping details and it will be EMS mailed to you.

  4. My guess is that those 14,900 baht Galaxy Mega 6.3 are non-4g versions. This is what I noticed about Note 8 (Thailand was selling non 4G version whereas they were selling 4G version in SG for a bit higher price).

Anyone with Galaxy Mega 6.3 on True 4G? If so, did you buy them in Thailand (where and how much)?

  5. You know, there is a diversity of opinion so I think it's important that not only one side dominates the "information" dished out here. Ultimately, each individual needs to make up their own mind about what is the best plan for themselves.

So let the thread be diverse and let others present their point of view.

I don't mean to be disrespectful but any valid points you might have in your posts are diluted by number of posts you make. For me, I can't stand 1) people who seem to participate in almost all threads and 2) people who seem to "take over" other people's thread by posting too much.

This is a good thread and a lot of good information but I don't see why you need to be #1 poster in thread (by far!).

  6. I'm not educated as some of you folks on the forum but I did manage to lose close to 10kg in last 5 months or so and am about 2-3kg from my initial target. I was inspired by (and observed) few people I know personally who managed to lose substantial weight and kept it off and I watched Fast Sick and Nearly Dead (juicing video).

What I did was to cut off some food that my common sense told me was "probably not too healthy for you". I have not had fast food (McD, Pizza Hut or KFC) or soda (I just orange fanta type of drink). I did buy a blender and a juicer and started to juice a bit. Almost everyday, I drink a cup of green apple/carrot juice during daytime and a shot of green apple/ginger juice in in the morning and evening. As far as juicing, I juice fruits (mostly grape, blueberry, orange and banana) or veggies (at least cucumber, celery, tomato - I know it's fruit and whatever looks good at the grocery store ... suprisingly kale is hard to find in Singapore!!!). I alternate between fruit and veggies but not together.

I eat normal breakfast (sometimes not too healthy as I'm munching on a muffin as I type) and lunch but I generally don't eat dinner (or very small portion) and sip juices in the evening. My lunches are generally healthy and my carb (rice) intake has been reduced to 50%. I usually eat my breakfast around 10am and my lunch around 2-3pm. Now I don't even get hungry in the evening that much (unless I'm very active in the evening in which case I will eat a bit). I just remember to be moderate on carb intake.

This has been working for me. I don't miss the fast food at all and I feel much better. My coffee intake has been reduced to less than one cup now.

I did all this without doing any sort of exercising ... which I know is bad. My company provides free gym membership and I promised myself to take advantage of this soon. As vain as it sounds, I'm not as shamed to be show up in the gym anymore as I'm fairly close to "normal" weight now. On the downside, I have to go buy a bunch of pants as they are all too big at this point.

  7. I'm with rob with some changes:

T3] This will increase metabolism, but can mess your metabolism up for good by shutting down your natural,

    - i rather be dead than risk becoming a mountain of fat for the reminder of my days.

Clenbuterol] Can give a crapload of cramps if taken in useful doses, - i rest my case.

ECA] cant say anything about it since i donno, guessing its high cost/benefit tho

DNP] Running uphill in a sauna 24/7 with twice the metabolic rate is said to be a good fatburner,

dnp is no different experience, expect a 0.5 kg fat loss per day, never ever exceed 3 pills a day.

Can one get DNP in Bangkok without prescription? Any info?

  8. Who cares...as nice as Koh Samet is there are other places to go instead, we travelers have choices. OK I feel for the affected businesses but it's just one of these things...you can't have it all.

Who cares? Many of us care ... and not for just selfish reason that some of us have plans to head there. It's man 'caused disaster that can adversely impact the nature with ripple down effect.

  9. @ BBCO, ordered from cafe menu ... I had Egg Ole and my friend had the traditional/standard breakfast which had eggs, bacon and can't remember what else. Both of us had large Cafe Americano.

It wasn't horrible but also wasn't something memorable. Total bill was just over 1K baht. Neither of us think it was worth coming back for.

Both of us love the bagel with lox at Angel City Diner, corned beef hash isn't too bad. I just hate their coffee ... it's truly American diner (e.g. Denny's) bad.

  10. I would not go as far as to call it a " farmers market " there isn't a real farmer among them,

what it is, it's a bunch of well meaning people with produces sourced from other places

and being sold there, some reasonably priced some way too expensive, nothing really

you can not buy at places like Vila, all in all, a nice way to kill couple of hours, but don't

    expect much.

I have to agree with your assessment. I went to the first "farmer's market" and found it to not what I expected. I'm from California, USA and usually our farmer's market have ... well ... farmers. Many produces from local farms as well as many good things to eat.

I saw more farangs selling their boutique (many organic) items at K-Villiage version.

  11. Whenever I have had anything sent from the Us via DHL or Fed EX I have ben hit with customs duty and VAT.

This is not Thailand specific. I have seen this in USA and in Singapore. If you use DHL, FedEx or UPS, they will enforce the custom duty, tax and also add their admin charge. Also, their packages are more likely to be inspected than anything sent through post offices (EMS or otherwise).

  12. Renovations at the former Coyote location appear to have resumed. Newspapers are covering the windows and workers were hard at it mid-evening this past week. Maybe Dukes have come to a deal on the lease.

Stickman recently posted "Duke's is NOT coming back to Bangkok, at least not in Sukhumvit soi 33 where a sign is displayed outside calling for applications for staff. I've commented a few times on how progress has been ultra slow. I can now confirm it's not slow; it has completely stalled. Duke's will, however, open a new branch at the new Promenade shopping centre in Chiang Mai."

    Don't shoot the messenger ...
