  1. You are extremely naive if you think there's any such thing as a "genuine" estate agent. The job of the estate agent is to fool you into paying more than you should to rent or buy a property. That's how they make their money, as the middleman. Never use an estate agent to buy or rent a property anywhere. ...

    Sigh ...

One, in Asia, it pays off to be educated and understand the market price and agent commission structure. In Bangkok, I think, generally speaking, that agent commission is 1 month rent. I use prakard and other sites to see what is "going price" for certain condos.

However, I have been renting through a great gal for last three years. She understands me and my "style" and that I'm not that gullible. She helped to find a great room last year at least 20% less than the "going rate" as the owner was just as difficult as I am and she had a hard time finding the right tenant for the owner before I came along. It turned out to be win win situation.

  2. Hmmm. I'm at Thai lounge in Changi heading to BKK. I go about once a month myself for last three years and have been questioned only once at BKK. I normally stay for 4 to 5 days and two weeks maximum. The time I was questioned, I had to show my Singapore employment pass and that was that.

If I have issue today, I will report back. I carry USA passport and have APEC card for fast track.

No drama to report as I was stamped and out to Airport Link train in about 5 min (through Premier Lane) without any question. Only stamps I have in my passport is just Thailand (about 4 or 5 pages)... since I don't stamp in and out of USA or Singapore and I haven't been to any other countries (quite sad really).

  4. Glad to hear it, I'm so sick of getting quoted flat fees just because of my skin color, I might have to start using this myself.

You're so right!!! I mean this doesn't happen to Thais at all. I mean you don't see Thai people complaining about those outrageous taxi drivers asking crazy money after they get off work at 2am on Sukhumvit (while waiting for taxis that prefer to stop for farangs over them) or at MBK. rolleyes.gif

  5. Is this a copy of the reuben debate on fb foodies pages?

I don't mind the one at the Landmark btw.

Hi, what is the exact name of the FB page? I'd be very interested in checking that out .. thanks.

  6. One of my favourite rides except for the bridges along the route where you have to get off your bike. The slope is just too steep to ride. If they make the slope more gentle it would be great and more continuous. It might be dangerous at night as there is a bit of drinking going on there as evidenced by the broken bottles sometimes, but by day is a great ride at both ends as well as tyhe route itself.

I've walked it during daytime. Not sure if anyone should be walking this trail at night time as it's fairly remote setting going through some 'hood near the klong.

  7. Normally I would agree with this ... however, looking at past OS battle, when the dust settled, there was only one standing, Microsoft and they continue to dominate the OS market for PCs.

ke? One OS? How is Windows going in the mobile or server space? tongue.png

Well, it's not going to be fair discussion/argument if you choose to ignore my "for PCs" part of the statement smile.png

It looks like Android is doing quite well in mobile space ... although there is no direct revenue stream for Google from the OS (as far as I know).

  8. I remember when Altavista was the one an trusted search engine and Yahoo provided hierarchical method to find what we were looking for. At the same time AOL provided it's own 'internet' to it's users. Major companies come and go.

Normally I would agree with this ... however, looking at past OS battle, when the dust settled, there was only one standing, Microsoft and they continue to dominate the OS market for PCs. They also won the business application market and we no longer use or talk about Lotus 123 or WordPerfect.

I think Google might be like Microsoft as search engine is fairly mature market at this point that was fought by various competitors.

  9. Last week I was Walking hurriedly to Bumrungrad Hospital from Asok to See a friend's Son Who Just Came out of an operation, Around 8 in The Evening.

To OP (1st time poster), I'm sorry that this turned out to be very expensive long walk. That's a decent hike from Asoke to the hospital. If I was in hurry, I'd have jumped on the back of the motorcycle taxi.

  10. As others have said but the only possible issue may be not having enough pages in your passport for stamps every two weeks. Won't take long to fill up a standard sized passport, especially if you have to have full page visas for other locations

I have thicker frequent traveler US passport that hasn't been really dented at all by my monthly (or more frequent visit) to Thailand (2+ years on this passport) as Thai immigration really stretch out a page by grouping as much stamps as possible on a page!!! I don't really go anywhere else so Thailand is the only stamps in my passport (don't get stamped for Singapore or US).

I'm sure OP knows but if he has standard passport, he can go to embassy to get additional pages put in.

  11. I take it you have no experience of Singapore or their strict immigration?

Sorry but except keep repeating that Singapore has strict immigration, I don't see where you've provided any expertise or detailed experience regarding bringing a Thai child to Singapore.

I'm sure there are others, like me, who are based in Singapore, who does not experience issue inviting Thai friends over. For Songkran this year, my ex and "our" niece (19 yr) came over without any issue. Very next day, one of my ex's female friend also flew in to hangout at Santosa/MBS.

I don't have any experience with having underaged Thai kids coming over but we are discussing bringing over our 9 yr and 14 yr nieces over next year.

  12. When I moved from USA to Singapore, I carried 10K USD in 100 bills so am familiar with the size of the "bank roll". It really isn't fold-able but isn't really that much either. I simply had it in an envelope and had it in a small bag ("murse") that I can carry with me in the plane (toilet runs) without looking totally paranoid.

I routinely have a stack of SGD, THB and USD (larger stack with total value probably lower than 10K USD) with me all the time, safely tucked away in my carry on backpack and never even think about it. Never been asked about it by any custom/immigration ever.

  13. In 2014 alone I have entered Thailand with 30 day visa on arrival more than 20 times, I speak Thai well and have never been told what the OP was told. My last entry was 6 Nov......nothing said!

I have USA passport and live/work in Singapore. I should have 30+ stamps (visa exemption) in my passport as I come to BKK once (sometimes twice) per month for 5 to 10 days (whenever my work schedule allows) since 2012 (on current passport).

I fly in to Suvarnabhumi every time and have never ever been stopped or asked anything (except look at the camera). My last entry/exit was Oct 17 to 27.

  14. Thai food is much better because of the flavours. I hate Japanese food (too much fish), but it's not as bad as Korean food - the worst 'cuisine' in the world. Rice, kimchie, a fried, un-gutted fish and soup made from something that used to live under a rock on the beach... for every single meal: breakfast, lunch & dinner. It all tastes the same... and everything is slathered in gochu-jang (hot, bitter red pepper paste).

You will fit right in ...

    1. classic TV move by creating Red Herring/Deflection from the original post

    2. classic generalization (not all Korean food are slathered in kochujang)
