  1. I also have a number of bank accounts worldwide; however, they were opened in the countries I have lived in and these banks only issue debit cards.

    Strange banks those ones.

one of the problems with "offshore" accounts is that one is typically not resident in country where your bank account is, so in a lot of cases they will not issue you an unsecured CC irrespective of how much you hold with them as " residency " is also assessed as part of the application

i went through this with my bank in Singapore, as i dont live or work in Singapore they would only issue a CC if i secured an amount with them equal to limit of the card, it is a proper credit card not a debit card, but its a "secured" CC, they did say if i ever came to live or work in Singapore it would be made unsecured no issue

My wife has been offered over over 20 grand in CC's in Australia. That's from the 2 banks she has accounts here with.

She's not even a resident. Scary thought actually.

  2. ^^^^, Smokes please dont mention Pattankarn, LOL.

I sit upstairs in a Thai style bia garden as I wait for the mrs to finish work, think they must be ripping me off, 75 baht for a large Leo, young dek serv just handed me another paa yen (cold towel) and topped up the ice in my glass, I wasnt asked for a 500 baht tip, LOL.

I'm sworn to secrecy rgs....so many cracking little spots too...poor kris...no doubt I will kidnap and blindfold him at Xmas and take him to a few favourites!

I'm after those places the locals know Smokie.

But you're on! Should be a good Xmas this year.

  3. Only thing I did was put an air con in the village house. Was to hot for me and the baby and that's coming from Australian heat. Straight to Tesco following day and 17k later it was installed by Tesco.

The only other thing we had issues with was running out of formula milk and baby hated other brands. With us she was on lactose free formula so I could only find 2 others in Thailand which she hated.

As for the other poster and infections, wrap your kid in cotton wool then.

  4. Personally,I would not stay at the village, Not healthy place for a baby from a Western country. I would stay in a hotel at Trang. Friends of mine stayed in a village for a week and their 2 yr got a infection and had to spend three nights in hospital. My daughter is four and she and my wife stayed a night in her village when I picked them up; they did not want to stay a second night. Although that was in the hot season in Surin. Good luck.

Oh well sorry to hear that but my daughter had been twice by the time she was 1 And not a problem.

Plus there's millions of kids in villages all over Thailand. Some get sick occasionally

  5. I can't understand the poster who seems to be saying that his child will be better off with Thai nationality only, if he doesn't get him a British passport. Assuming the poster is British by birth, rather than by descent, his child is British, whether he bothers to get a passport or not. Having a British passport will be extremely useful in case he ever wants to travel or study in farang countries, unless the Thai passport is miraculously elevated to allow visa free travel by then, and, if Britain remains in the EU, it provides the right to live and work in any EU country. Getting a British passport for a child is relatively easy while you are around but may not be so easy for him, if you are not and he lacks key documents. The poster should make the modest investment in a British passport for his child and give him the choice of whether to use it or not in future.

    I don't get it either.

To me it's a no brainer to seize the opportunity.

Agree, another angry teen , im sure

Yeah well the way I see it it's about giving your children the most you can offer in life and opening windows of opportunity.

Plus I figure if mine ever mucks around living in Australia I can threaten her with "you're going to live with Yai in the village "

  6. Need some help in understanding this. The crane comes into contact with insulated wiring, so how was the current transferred to the crane? There is lots of give in those cables, they're not taut, so it would not be easy, I assume, for the crane to make a cut in them.

Not sure if anyone answered this wita, but the power can arc itself to the crane.

Something I learnt doing a boom lift course. I think by memory it's a 10metre safety zone for low voltage lines and 25metres for high voltage.

And unlike the movies if the boom lift became electrified you're fine, but if you attempted to jump out you'll be electrocuted.

Edit to add, I don't think the lines lack of insulation plays a part.

  8. where would you like to live? Bangkok or where? Is it for you or for your GF? Personal question, is there a chance you might get married in the near future..

I am looking for somewhere not to busy but not in a small Thai village

somewhere where there is a few bars and restaurants and maybe 20mins walk from the beach and half hour drive to a big city

so Bang Saray looks good but could change my mind if i find somewhere else better

sorry mate can't answer your question about getting married as my gf is at work reading this now lol

There's several 45 square metre condos in Rayong near the beach for 570k.

Townhouses in Chon Buri starting at 230k

    Gives you an idea anyway.

  9. I'm not sure about what the screw you are talking about looks like?

The best way I can think to remove the light would be with a stanley knife. Slowly try and cut the glue. Sounds like it was glued because it was assumed it could fall off without it??

There's 2 types of screws that work well that I can think of.

That metal spring head style would likely work well.

And where in Chiang Mai can you buy either of these two fittings? Would save me a trip to Australia if I could get them here along with large size shoes, underpants, socks etc etc. [Did I mention mature cheddar?]

    No idea
