Michael, are you in Bangkok, if so just go the the Australian Visa Office in Sukhumvit soi 13.

Forget the name of the building, but it is on the right hand side of the Soi.

The first BIG building you come to.

This is where i done mine for my Thai GF, no problems at all.

    Hope this helps.

The name you are after is the Trendy Building in Soi 13.

To the OP - all the tourist visa requirements are online both through the Dept of Home Affairs website and private posters adding their experiences.  There is no point in just rocking up to the VFS Global office without ALL the information sought.  You will NOT be allowed through to the counters.

The first tourist visa is normally the most difficult to get approved.  Evidence of an intention/reason for the applicant to return is normally very important.  All the other requirements are spelt out for you on the application forms on the website.

The vast majority of applicants will only get 3 months no matter what they may apply for.  In addition you are dealing with different people who make the decision at the Embassy so variations in human nature on decisions do occur.

If online gambling is banned how does that impact the casinos in <deleted>sville?

I was in Cambodia 2 years ago.  I visited several Casinos in Sihanoukville out of general interest when staying there.  There was not one game being played that I recognised.

Of interest in each place were the well dressed female Cambodian croupiers playing some form of card game not to people sitting at a table but to an very large online computer screen with many players listed across the screen.  As they dealt the cards the players would bet online.  Obviously a line of credit would need to be established with the casino first.  There were several tables in each establishment participating in this online gambling. I was told by a local that one new hotel of some 7 or 8 stories near the beach was fully booked out by Chinese visitors there in town to gamble and mostly gamble online.

I was not really happy when I heard the Chinese had recently purchased a large tract of beachfront land there for a massive development exclusively for the Chinese clientele.  And a friend recently returning from Phnom Penh said the city was awash with Chinese development and Chinese visitors.  Just like the rest of SE Asia.

I fail to see how people's time is so valuable that in Thailand that have to rush about like they are back in Farang land and cannot operate at buffalo speed. Sad.

Very wrong attitude.  What happens if your Thai partner has to stand and wait 30 minutes or more for you "non Thai" to process through Immigration?

Whilst I have never used the Thai line with my long time Thai partner I know those who do and I will certainly attempt this next time if I see a great disparity in the lengths of the queues.

  4. Question -

I always get a Non Imm O-A multi entry visa from my home country [Aust] every 12 months.  I then spend considerable periods of time in Thailand and surrounding countries each year over about 3 trips per 12 months.  I always have full travel insurance cover sourced in Aust. for every trip.  I do not reside in Thailand but can spend more than 6 months there every year.

If I enter Thailand after 31 October 2019 am I required to have full insurance cover sourced from a Thailand based Insurance company, even though I can show my home based travel insurance cover?

I do not seek to get extensions of the 12 month Non Imm O-A visa when in Thailand.

From what I have read to date I suspect I may have to get the Thailand based insurance cover as well.

    This is not Europe.

    The people are not immigrants.

The people are majority indigenous, Malay, Muslim.

They have been since the 13th century.

    It was their place.

    Ruled by a Sultan.

The region never asked or wanted to be "integrated" into Siam/Thailand.

It never asked to be subject to Thaification - Wikipedia

    It was forced.

Thailand is reaping what it sowed.

As did Britain in Ireland, the Netherlands in their "East-Indies" and France in "Indo-China" and Algeria.

It is my view held for many years that these provinces should be returned to Malaysia.  All displaced Thais are moved anywhere in Thailand at the Govt's. expense and get additional compensation to move to make it worth their while and cover expenses of lost houses and businesses. This may involve one or two million to be moved over a period of time.

All Thai Govt. funding and other assistance to these provinces would cease.  Schools and Govt offices closed.  Banks closed.  Anything assisted by the Thai Govt. closed. The Army of course would be removed from their protective role once everybody who wanted to had moved.  Those that choose to stay do so at their own peril.  In other words give these provinces nothing and make Malaysia pay for everything.

The Army can be given permission to shoot dead anyone coming out of the returned provinces heading north to make trouble.

Radical? Yes.  Expensive? Crazily so.  Take time? Yes probably 5 years.  Stupid thought? Probably.  But after 10 - 15 years or so of not having to support an Army and Govt.  presence there nor have innocent Buddhist killed for some BS cause by the cowardly murderers and terrorists going under whatever name they choose this week it would pay for itself.

Should have been done years ago.  Maybe just a figment of my imagination that this could all be done anywhere near successfully.

Are you naive ( a lack of experience, or understanding  ) or just stupid ? That is how the date rape drug works, you don't just pass out you also cannot remember things that happened to you. Girls in US have woke up not remebering who they were with or if anything has happened so have to have a rape kit (exam ) done and later guy was arrested as people had seen him with her and the semen matched. Another case recently a guy was seen running away from  a  girl passed out in park and was held by guys untill police  summoned. The girl woke up in a hospital but remembered nothing  and did'n't even realise she had been raped untill she saw the news on tv saying a girl found in park has been raped by so and so and figured out it was her they were talking about.

And by the way not all Thai pretties are hookers, many are cute colllege girls that are hired to promote products at various events, hand out fliers, promote drink products at different bars or liven up a party by servingdrinks or even DJ. No matter what she was doing she didn't deserve to die. Henbody did not look stiff (rigormortis ) when being carried out of the elavator so he left her to die on sofa rather than implicate himself by taking her to a hospital. As I said if date rape drug used she would not have remebered how she got on the sofa or who she was with witch was probably what he was counting on.

A classic example of "pretties" are the "Chang girls" in green dresses and the "Leo girls" in red dresses.  Pretty and young serving beers from so many establishments every night.

Like I said I’m my previous post, most likely racing. Just because someone on here is somehow connected to the victim, we’re supposed to ignore the facts that they were both drunk and street racing?

Every story posted on here about street racing or drunk driving is met with “ they should be in jail for the rest of the their lives”. And now everyone is tearing up because they are students at a college?

I have yet to read the age of the driver.  Do you know something that we don't?  Yes the driver was speeding and possibly drunk but we don't know if he was a student or an adult. And surely you're not blaming the poor students in the back of the pick up?

  8. The Dept. of Human Services Website is very good and will answer all your questions.

You will need to lodge all documents online through the Human Services Visa Application site (the name escapes me for the moment).  Be prepared to complete many documents on paper and scan them onto a flash drive for easy transfer.

NB:- IT MAY BE DENIED IF YOU ARE STILL LEGALLY MARRIED - as you have indicated in your post. There is no refund on a denied application.

    Hereunder are a few points.

    1.  You have to be offshore (from Aust) to apply for spouse, fiancé or partner visa.  If it's a partner visa it's the 309/100 visa application you do.

    2.  You have to be offshore when the decision is made.  Once the decision is made in your favour you will have to enter Aust. by a given date, normally about 2 months after the visa grant.  This date cannot be changed!!!

    3.  As you currently reside in Thailand I guess the offshore requirement is taken care of.

    4.  In general it will take anything from 12 to 24 months after you have lodged all documents required.  Expect to prepare more than 50 documents on behalf of the applicant and yourself as her sponsor. They may continue to ask for more documents even when you think you have lodged them all.

    5.  A temporary residency is granted first ("TR").  The permanent residency ("PR") can be granted at the same time or within the following 24 months.

    6.  They are allowed to work and study whilst on a TR and get a Medicare Card.

    7.  Any documents in thai like a birth certificate or house registration will need to be translated to English by an official registered translator.

    8.  There's health checks, police clearances for your lady and yourself to obtain.

    9.  It is very expensive.  The application fee is currently over $7,000 Aust. Then there's the added costs of translations, health checks, police clearances.  Maybe you will need to visit Bangkok to get some documents processed eg police clearances.

    10.  Her child will need written approval from the father to leave Thailand.  I do not know if adding a thai child to the application increases the cost or not.  Again the website will have the answer to that.

    11.  You will need to have documents to show you are legally divorced.

    12.  Expect to outlay roughly $9,000.  The application fee seems to increase greatly every year.

    13.  Only do this if you are really serious about bringing them to Aust.  The process is long, frustrating, tedious and very expensive.

I am sure there's other points I've left out which other posters may have already covered.

  9. The fact that he did a runner influences me to believe he caused the fall.

If it was an accident wouldn't any normal husband be calling for medical help and prepared to help his wife in any way.  You would expect he'd be filled with grief.

But no he flees the scene, in fact he flees the country, safe in the knowledge that he's not going to face charges nor contribute to her medical and future financial needs. IMO scum.

  10. I was recently in Chiang Mai.  I now hate going anywhere near the Thae Phae gate on account of the hundreds upon hundreds of pigeons there.  Yes the enterprising Thais are selling food for the tourists to feed the birds and are making money but in my opinion it's really stupid to allow this to prosper and grow.  No way would a lot of tourists want to run the gauntlet of pigeon droppings and commotion to get their photo by the wall and signage.

I have been to CM many times over the years but this seems to be something that's happened in the last few years.  A major retrograde step in my opinion.

It appeared most to the tourists buying bird seed were young Chinese and Koreans.  Say no more. We need to convince the Thais of the joys of pigeon pie or larp pigeon and maybe that would solve the problem.

  11. I apply for a Non Immigrant O-A Visa with multiple entry every year in my home country of Australia. I take multiple trips to Thailand using that visa and would spend more than 6 months every year in Thailand and neighbouring countries. However I do not have a residence in Thailand.

I always take out high level travel insurance.  My visa is granted upon providing evidence of more than 65K in monthly income by way of guaranteed pension income. I always have a return ticket booked.

From commentary on this topic to date it appears that it will not be the job of the Immigration staff to check whether or not the O-A visa holder has health insurance but rather the Thai Embassy or Consulate when the application is lodged.

It will be interesting to see what approach the Thai Embassy will take in future applications. Whether they will demand a full 12 month health cover sourced from Thailand or whether travel insurance covering the period away will be sufficient.

No, not her phone. My laptop, as we met up for a European vacation 2 months ago. The password to her FaceBook was saved on my laptop. I became suspicious because she recently went on a trip to Moscow, but I never saw the female friend that she was supposed to be sharing the room with. And she just got mad when I questioned her about her female friend.

The part "and she just got mad when I questioned her about her female friend" is a dead giveaway that she's lying. Absolutely 100% guaranteed. Guilty as charged.

It's a human trait but especially a female Thai trait to get angry when pressured to reveal something they do not want to reveal or are just plain lying to your face.  Find out they have been lying and when you confront them they get very angry trying to explain or justify a lie.  Trying to get you to stop your line of questioning.

Only spied after she went to Moscow on vacation and never saw her female friend that she supposed to be with. She saved here FaceBook on my laptop and now I am in this ordeal. 4 years wasted, 30 friends who booked tickets to Thailand whom I have to notify, and $100K+ down the drain.

    (1) I wonder who she did stay with in Moscow if her girlfriend failed to show. It's a shame you cannot check the hotel register etc.

    (2) At an average of US$25,000 per annum expenditure you must have been her dream ATM. Even allowing for your airfares and accommodation costs in visiting her and perhaps multiple times each year you still must have provided her with a wonderful lifestyle and bank account.

    (3) Whatever the cost to date it pales into insignificance if you marry her, or have children with her or are worth more dead than alive.

    (4) The best way to get over a lost love is in the arms of another beautiful young Asian lady.  If this remedy doesn't work the first time just continue to repeat the process.

    Good luck.

I think HA are a criminal gang ..some might wear their uniforms like in the old days..but mostly they keep a low profile not to endanger their multi million dollars drugs and human trafficking venues plus professional money laundering operations. Easy to set foot in a corrupt country like TH see boiler rooms...

One of the more sensible and real recognition of what's going on with these gangs.  Good to see after 5 pages of petty bickering.  Hells Angels in Pattaya, Finks in Khao Lak, Bandidos in Koh Samui (?) etc.  These guys are not in Thailand for a retirement gig.  Everywhere in the world they are known for their enforcement and illegal activities be it drugs, prostitution, money laundering, protection rackets etc. Police in Australia aren't cracking down on them just because they're misunderstood guys riding big bikes.  They gather huge revenues through illegal activities. They then set up legitimate type businesses "on the fringe" such as tattoo parlours and money lending.

Thailand is probably an easier place to conduct business then some of the Western countries now making life more difficult for them where they are subject to raids on their clubhouses. I am surprised that the Thai police have allowed them to gain such a strong foothold.

  15. This makes me SO angry. A good loving law abiding couple die at the hands of scum. Their love was what we all hope for with a Thai partner - 30+ years of happiness together. The scum live on and unlikely to be hanged or executed. I hope they are all executed including the brother in law. How he was ever granted bail is beyond my understanding.  Thai cops get off your arse, correct you mistake and find this scumbag.

Would i be as cold and harsh if i met him in person?

No i would be a damn sight harsher.

Over the years I've read your comments.  Mostly good, sensible, heartfelt and well intentioned.  However I find your absolute lack of sympathy for this young fellow whose lost his leg bewildering. Given your terrible situation of being paraplegic/quadriplegic I thought you'd have more than the usual amount of sympathy for him.  Regardless of no helmet (assumed) and lack of suitable attire (assumed), accidents happen in Thailand in huge numbers.  Sometimes the fault of the MB rider, many times the fault of another driver.

I hate to see any accident like this where the person's life has been irreversibly changed.  Some may never recover from the trauma involved.  His young life as he knows it has changed forever.  Don't be so bloody cruel to this young guy.  It's repeated by the hundreds in Thailand , foreigner and Thai.  Have a heart.

  17. Everyone keeps referring to the fine print on an insurance policy regarding motor bike riding.  That well may be the case but the insurance company I use has very big print about not being covered for riding motor bikes, snow skiing and parachuting etc. I cannot move forward to the next online page until I indicate I will NOT be undertaking those activities.

Should I wish to undertake any of those activities I can but at a higher premium.  Simple enough.

I actually rang and asked my insurance company if I was covered when I was a passenger on a motor bike taxi service.  The reply was if the driver was registered to operate as a mb taxi service and a licensed driver, and I wore a helmet then I was fully covered.  Maybe I just read the relevant stuff that gets these peoples insurance cover voided.
