@ Gowolfpack77 - "This is not always the case... but is a typical scmmer case as I was told by my Thai-American law firm attorney in Bangkok. In your case the odds are at least 20 to 1 that you are being scammed with the mother orchestrating and advising her daughter every time your name comes up in converstation to take you financially as a fool whether you end up together at all or may actually have a future together."
In your long and convoluted post I think you've got the odds you quoted wrong. I think what you meant to say was odds of being scammed were 2 to 1. That is to say a 50/50 chance of being scammed. The odds you quoted mean it a long shot that he's being scammed and that's not what your post was about.

First. Thanks for all the replies although some were posted by people with internet strength. I'm an ex gamer, so more than familiar with the attitude. It's the internet.
I'm not a troll I work to much, travel too much to have time to troll some post I made to mess with people as you can see from my lack of posts. Everyone can have their opinion and that fine.
1) She's been cut to $700 as far as my helping her.
2) Sinsod was cut in half, all will be shown but only 25% will go to mom. Moms other half will be paid later. 50% of the Sinsod will be put in a savings account for the daughter.
3) We are both buying Thailand Fever to help us understand each other better.
4) The wedding will continue, but the number of guests will be shrunk considerably. Less than 15 will attend. Will now be at grandmothers house and not a resort as planned.
Not all was lost reading through some of the garbage posted. Lol. She's not totally ok with my decisions, but her mother agreed too.
Thanks,
Not a troll
Gee I post again.
I'm sure all the TV posters who gave you a wake up call were not writing garbage (as you put it). They were writing their posts trying to stop you making a complete arse of yourself. They were writing so that you didn't get ripped off. They had your best interests at heart. They've seen it all and know it all. Most of the posters have experience living in Thailand and have dated many Thai girls. Most are married to Thai girls and have gone through the sin sod and wedding caper.
To say what they write is garbage is an INSULT. If you are making big mistakes then it takes a big stick to smack you into some form of reality - to let common sense enter your brain.
Their brutal comments (and mine) are required. You are in airy fairy land with your payments. You put yourself under pressure to perform financially. All the posts are to try and knock you back to reality.
For the record the Thai girl I married did not want nor expect sin sod nor a big wedding. She was just grateful to find a nice, decent, working falang to take care of her and her child. And I knew her and lived with her for 12 months before I knew she was a good girl to marry.
You have only known your girl for a relative "minute".

-
As you were paying even before you met her I imagine the whole lot of them see you as a soft touch. Your girl is old enough to make her own decisions. No crappy wedding party, no sinsod at all.
I feel quite strongly about this topic. If you are weak the family will walk all over you and bleed you dry.
We (TV members) do not want you to become another penniless farang, stuck in their home country, unable to afford anymore holidays and working to pay off debt incurred in supplementing a parasitic Thai family.
In reality if she's on the Internet she's willing to meet up with any John err sorry falang. She needs to sort out the wheat from the chaff ie who can provide for her family and who can provide the MOST MONEY. You talked to her for about four months. OK and how many other farangs do you think she was talking to as well. You wouldn't have been the only one. But she won't mention that.
Love is a transient thing. To generalise somewhat - Thai girls may love you and love you wholly and sincerely, but they've always got one eye on the ATM meter.

Yes she has a girl whom I also love. Prior marriage. But I know my fiancé will listen to mom. Thai way.......
I must post again. This is all a bluff. 1500 USD a month is HUGE money for a Thai family. The mother is playing you for a sucker. You met on the Internet? Perhaps the mother is looking for a richer sucker than you, or maybe multiple suckers/sponsers.
Rather than pay sin sod I would walk away from the relationship. As soon as the tap is turned off they'll come running back to you.
<deleted> after this (sin sod) she'll want a house built for her mother. Then the mother can live the rest of her life more comfortably then you can!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
For Pete's sake think with your brain and not your heart. If this girl truly loves you and knows you are a good man that will provide for her and her daughter then she will understand about no sin sod. Surely you can explain that it will ruin your future together.
Worse case scenario - you say no to sin sod and she walks away from the relationship. Then her true colours will be shown.
Don't join the cast of thousands of farangs that have been duded financially.
You CAN SAY NO! If she truly loves you and wants you for her husband and not for your bank account she will understand.

Now I've only just read the OP post and there's maybe some good information in reply which I will read after I post my comment.
Don't be a bloody fool and pay any sin sod. You are already supporting your Thai GF and her daughter and the parasitic mother.
You are not marrying some Thai virgin of high class and a rich family. You are marrying a Thai girl who has a daughter to support and this will cost you enough throughout your life. No matter how nice the girl and her daughter are I hope you are not ready to be done over by the stupid Thai idea of sin sod. <deleted> you say you are paying for a big wedding - that's enough - and that will cost you a small fortune for all the parasites that will come along to that.
Get real. Grow some balls. The mother is trying to rip you off. The mother is already getting part of the benefit of your 1500 USD payment each month. The mother is playing you for a sucker. I state again the mother is playing you for a sucker.
Say no to sin sod. Explain that you are paying for the wedding and that's all. Call her bluff. Call off the wedding? - I don't think so. The mother still wants to suckle on your breast and your bank account. Why would she cut off the hand that will fed her in the future.
If you pay the sin sod you are ruined financially and emotionally forever. Once they know you're weak that's the end of you and it will end in tears. You can say NO. You should say NO. You are a fool if you don't say NO.
You will face an eternity of financial troubles if you don't say no.

Well done those Thai Ladies.
Not that it's required, but I hope that you return and express your gratitude.
No worries !
I fully intend to do that .
Bit bruised at the moment but I will ensure that I return with thanks and flowers in a couple of days
Perhaps wise to remember they can't eat flowers. Perhaps another way of thanking them may be available. Good story.

+1...Nice to hear a good story.Another good news story. Some decent tuk tuk drivers out there.
A good news story for sure.
It shouldn't be expected but I hope both parties gave their tuk tuk drivers a nice reward for their honesty.. If so the tuk tuk drivers would be more inclined to be honest in the future.
But why <deleted> would you have 500,000 baht in your wallet? Stupid, stupid and more stupid.

@ David Allison - a couple of honest and well written posts from you about how the average "joe" enjoys his time in Pattaya. It doesn't all have to be a gut full of beer and obnoxious behaviour. Lots of these average "joes" go about their holiday or lifestyle full of enjoyment and moderation.

There arises a question whether it is worth waiting until our sunset/twilight years to fulfill our dreams.
As I've said before in another post - "By the time a man has money to burn the fires normally gone out".
Wish I'd have discovered the joys of Thailand when I was in my thirties. It would have been - "take no prisoners".

Good job fishie
I hope you are joking...or drunk...or on drugs. Because if this is the best comment you can come up with and you pretend to be a normal, caring and functional human being , then you are one sorry human piece of <deleted>.
Yes the story is unusual but it's about the death of a young Thai spearfisherman who probably had family including children.
Do you jump up and down when a Thai fishing boat sinks and people drown?
Your best comment would be not to post anything on this subject.
Hmmm - just checked your profile - 9 posts and 803 profile views. Some of your other posts must have raised the shackles of other TV readers as well.

Overall I'd say Thai women are very romantic. They love Valentines Day and are easily won over by romantic gestures like a gift of flowers or anything "cute.". And even though they know full well they're being fed a line of sweet mouth, they eat it up anyway. I find Thai women very easy woo ... and I'm not talking about the bar girls here.
In the early days I'd buy flowers for my wife - she'd say you can't eat flowers.
Once she was comfortable and well fed in a marriage situation she loved flowers on special occasions.
-
brit,
well im romantic, although we have never met,,lol,
yes i want money too, thats why i still work also have a pig farm,
just last year, i promise i wont go on,
anyway last valatines, we were in tesco and my wife sees the teddies and said i get for for you, i so no dont waist your money,,lol
so the next day im up town alone, go into tesco, get her a teddy, rose, balloon, and a beautiful card, hit them all in my store shed,
the morning of valantines day i got up extra early to feed the pigs and clean out, but first i got all the things out the store and laid them out on our veranda,
when she got up and saw them all, she came down to me in tears, saying it was all beautiful,
its nice to be nice,
jake
Nice one. Pig farm...............I hope you had a shower before your passion took over.

Up to each individual if they get a tattoo or not. Personally I don't like them especially on girls.
I've always wondered -
(1) If Westerners get something in Chinese or Japanese script tattooed on their body does it follow that the Chinese and Japanese get English script tattooed on their body? Or Ying and Yang becomes beer and chips?
(2) if people wear earrings to be trendy and different from the crowd what happens when 90% of the people have earrings - are they now just part of the crowd?
(3) If people get tattoos to be an individual and stand out from the rest - what happens when 90% of people have tattoos - you're just one of the crowd again.
There seems to be a current trend for many young people to wear big circular rings in their ear lobe with no centre. Just as you see the African tribesmen have.. So in 20 years are we going to have all these middle aged people with ridiculous holes in their ear lobes?
As for all the old women who's tatts have sagged badly - who cares - it's like Siberia - everyone knows where it is but no one wants to go there.

Thank you everyone for your feedback but for the record I have not handed any money over for the airfare. I was going to buy the ticket online so if there were any problems I would get the refund, not her. In the eighteen months I have known her she has never asked me for money.
I don't have any other cellphone numbers for her, just the one, so I cannot ask anyone else as to her whereabouts. Of course she may not necessarily have entered the U.K. she could have gone to visit another boyfriend in another country. Taking everything into account I think I will have to play a waiting game. Only time will tell. However I'm sorry to say it looks like "goodnight" to the relationship!
If it is goodnight to the relationship you can join a club with thousands of members. So many of them on TV. As long as you are not grossly out of pocket you can put it down to experience. Hurts the emotions but that's a life experience for many foreigners in a relationship with a Thai girl.
Some are just singed and some are burnt beyond repair.
There's thousands of girls in Thailand to give you comfort. Short term remedy I know, but it does the trick for many until a decent girl comes along to fulfil your emotional need.
Anyway I think you are wise to play the waiting game. As long as you can keep your emotions and common sense separate in this matter. Depends on the girl but sometimes the most recent boyfriend is the one that catches their interest. And there's always a chance there may be a genuine reason
-
Calling a bf/husband 'daddy', is insurance against calling them Frank or John or Ian or...........which might upset them.
Ha ha. For the same reason many foreigners refer to the Thai GF as "tilac". Avoids getting their name wrong in the morning or in the weeks that follow.

UPDATE

PATTAYA:--Police detective team have arrested a lady boy who drugged an elderly New Zealander man. He confessed that he had sold stolen his property and bought gold with the proceedings. He also confessed he did the same to a Russian man the following night.
PATTAYA December 18, 2013 [PDN]; a journalists reported news yesterday about Mr. Bernard John Griffiths, aged 65, New Zealander nationality, who was drugged by a ladyboy that he met in Walking Street and stole his property totalling more than 300,000 THB and he had notified the police at Pattaya city police station. Well that's good work by the BIB. However it will be interesting to see what the LB confesses to stealing. A Visa Card? !0,000 Baht? A Diamond ring? A Gold Necklace? Or all four.
If the NZ guy was wearing a diamond ring of significant value and if he was wearing a gold necklace of significant value then he's a first class <deleted>. He doesn't deserve to be robbed but jeez why didn't he just put a neon sign on his head reading "<deleted> looking to be robbed".
If however he was wearing these items and they were of much lesser value - then he's just trying to stitch up his insurance company.. And surely they would ask for purchase documents to confirm the high value of these items.
As I read it he appeared to be drugged once he reached Lucifers, not at the beer bar. Why does one go out with no money for one beer? Why does one share a pin number with a new "friend" Why does one withdraw 10,000 baht when 3,000 or 4,000 would have been plenty - even allowing for sexual services later on in the night.
Yes it may have really happened to the full extent of the report but I keep on banging on my calculator and it just don't add up!!!!!!!

I like to stay in a particular clean guesthouse in Krabi township when I am travelling through that region. Much cheaper than Ao Nang and with a car it's no trouble to go to Ao Nang for the day. I've never had any trouble in several stays there.
I recommended it to a friend travelling through that way. Thought I'd check up on current prices etc on Trip Advisor. Dismayed to see several reports from travellers about money being stolen from rooms there. Most likely by cleaners.
Whether Chang Mai or Krabi or anywhere else it seems to be a common problem.
Only way to avoid this is by not putting temptation before these lowly paid and hard working cleaners, some of whom are thieves when given a chance for easy money or goods. I'd guess that for every person who has had money stolen from their room there are probably a lot, lot more who have had someone go through their suitcase etc and found nothing worth stealing.
The vast majority of tourists cannot open a Thai Bank Account and some cannot deposit funds into an account available for overseas use with ATM access. Having said that it doesn't pay to travel with large sums of money on your person in any country. Where you can use a bank account(s) with overseas ATM access links you shouldn't need a large amount of cash.
There will always be tourists who get into trouble. Sometimes of their own making and sometimes just damn bad luck.

How common is HIV/AIDS in Thailand for male heterosexuals?
Also how about herpes?
The rest don't get as much coverage or concern in general though there are a few scary stories on this thread.
IMO only a b_loody fool or a selfish person would have sex with the P4P girls in Pattaya or elsewhere without using a condom.
I say a b_loody fool in the first instance because why in the hell do you want to end up with something painful or annoying that needs medical treatment. Then you head home & spread it to some other unsuspecting soul.
I say selfish in the second instance because you will eventually pick up an STD and you will spread that onto someone else, perhaps a loved one. All for your own ego.
Anyway we all know that Pattaya and other sex centres are full of STD's, some fatal, some forever and some just damned annoying and painful. There are so many stats put out by the health system that you'd have to be "blind freddy" not to know about the high rate of STD's in Pattaya.
I've always wondered about those guys smooching up to some BG just what that girls mouth and perhaps throat were doing a few hours before.

Savage and cruel revenge for a possible deal gone wrong, or financial dispute, even a serious neighbourhood dispute.
Nationality of offender(s)? Depends on who he's crossed. Police could start with an examination of his office computer if this is actually at an office and not at his burnt home.
Need to know more about his real estate activities. Was he involved in buying and developing housing estates with Thai builders or just selling completed houses, condos etc. to foreigners. There's lots of possibilities. If there has been a dispute on a sold property there should be correspondence for that. Do his bank records show anything?
Throw the bus at me if you want but I suspect that this revenge was instigated by a disgruntled Thai. However, I hope they find whoever did it and throw the book at them.

I GO TO BANGLA ROAD FOR NIGHT LIFE JUST 10 MIN BY BIKE AND ALSO YOU CAN GO TO PHUKET TOWN.
EDIT:
Please do not post in all caps. It is considered shouting and as such rude!
This is also one thing i consider a major plus about Kathu. I'm not at particularly big fan of Bangla Road but think its ok to go a couple of times a month. Therefore its perfect that I can go to Bangla Road when it suits me, instead of Bangla Road being around me all the time. A major implication about this though, is that i think driving a bike and going out for a drink is a bad mix. Especially driving the road between Kathu and Patong. Thats why i wonder about the prices and possibilities for Taxi. As i said earlier, i know its expensive, I just want to know how big the damage will be.
What some people do if going out for a big night in Patong. Rent a hotel room for one night in Patong. Drive your bike down there sober during the day and return the next day again sober. You'll avoid the evening traffic jam, erratic & drunk drivers etc etc. If you can arrange that it's the smartest thing to do.

Doesn't drink, doesn't smoke. But became addicted to poker machines in Oz. Lost more than I dare say. Total loss included marriage. Soooooo sad.
I didn't see "chronic problem" amongst your choices.
Mate ... that's just plain sad.
May I ask, how did she access the amount of money to put through the machines?
Did she work? Or rely on your money?

David you have spent enough time here and been around Thais long enough to already know the answer.
Let me spell it out for you, some of these mia farang never gave up their profession on marrying the white knight in shining armour and moving overseas.
Examples I know of, one woman gambled away 2 million baht, proceeds of a house sale, another gambled away not one but two restaurants, I cant be assed recounting the others.
The most galling was when one Thai wanted to use our house as a "knocking shop", she couldnt understand why the mrs told her to eff off.
To rgs2001uk - No my wife wasn't selling pussy to get the money for the poker machines. I resent your implication that all Thai girls married to foreigners sell pussy at the first opportunity to get extra money.
I sent you a PM on this I hope you receive it ok. [i'm not really sure how to send PM's] She never gambled in Thailand.
My wife worked a number of restaurant and cleaning jobs over many years. Sometimes working 60 hours per week. She was influenced by the other Asians she worked with.. Some people get hooked and she was one of those that did. She also accessed our joint bank account and credit cards before I put a stop to that avenue of funds.
As much as she earned was as much as she'd spend and because she was working she could get multiple credits cards. These were always maxed out and I stupidly from time to time would pay them down to zero only to be maxed out again. This behaviour went on for many years. I didn't want to throw her out on the street. I tried again and again to get her to stop without success. I won't bore you with the problems it caused, but there many.
In any form of addiction you have to be in the gutter before you truly want to change and get help. She's still working through her demons of addiction to poker machines but without me as a source of cash.
-
Why do men get addicted to Thailand?
Women and Booze
You said it all right there. 99 times out 100 , those are the reasons. And both of them will sink your ship a great deal of the time , before all is said and done. I've certainly partaken of both. Have since stopped drinking and cut back on women chasing in the Kingdom. This has been very very very difficult. I miss having several cold ones 3 or 4 times a week in the worst way and my affinity for pretty Asians will never leave me.
People keep telling me to do things in moderation. Where is this place called "moderation"? I can find places called "temptation" and "In excess" and maybe later I'll have to find the place called "redemption" but despite my searching I can never find this place called "moderation"!

Didn't gamble at all in Thailand. Lost all her money from working here in Oz over many years. Influenced by other Asians she worked with. Lost a s -hitload of my money as well. Gambled unemployment benefits. Refused help again & again. Couldn't stand it anymore or I would have gone under - lost house etc. Fantastic lady in so many ways, perfect Thai wife for many years except for chronic gambling habits. This in turn causes hundreds of arguments. But will always be the number one lady I've known in my life.
I would like to s-hit down the throat of all politicians who voted in favour of poker machines. They live their lives on a fat Govt. pension whilst the lives of thousands are ruined by poker machines in Oz.. No poker machines in Western Australia and they are flush with money to spend on the economy not fatted hotel owners.
Reading this post makes me laugh. There are so many Thai ladies I know here in Oz with chronic gambling habits. Check out our Casino - filled with Asians losing everything they earn.
