  1. I have an apple MBP that I purchased 1 to 2 yrs ago. It doesn't have the fancy touch buttons that you see on the new apple laptops (located above the keyboard). My laptop is one of the older ones that still has the usb ports on either side of the laptop which I like.

Anyways, is there anyway to set up hot keys to do an immediate screen lock? Using the mouse if I use the 'sleep' function the screen goes black but anyone can still get into the laptop if it is before the 3 minute to 5 min time frame. It takes several minutes before a password is required. I want an immediate password to be required when locking it.

    Can you help.

    thanks

Unlike on my regular online broker with bx.in.th their is no option I notice (unless I am mistaken?) to put a sell STOP price on any holdings?

I don't know the answer to your question sorry.

Can you comment on your dealings with that exchange? Have you ever sold bitcoin and funded back to your thai bank account? What were the fees?

I did my first internet bank transfer to fund my account just over two hours ago. I followed their deposit procedure exactly. It says the deposit will be approved in less than 15 minutes but I'm still waiting. Also contacted them but no reply yet. Is this normal? Are they 24/7 or have business hours that I don't know about?

    Cheers

HI there, can you please update and tell us what happened. Please give details so that other forum members / bitcoin community benefit. thanks

With billions involved in crypto and literally hundreds of coins, a purge is bound to happen soon

but as long as there are buyers around it will not burst. Theres still so much hype about bitcoin. The national newspaper in my country reported on the front page that 1 bitcoin will be worth 1 million in 2 yrs. This sort of article leads to many dreamers to join in the action. I think 2018 will see a huge increase in prices perhaps to 50k when the futures boys join in on the action.

Cme and the hedge funds are only going to focus on bitcoin, they are not going to invest in the other 1300  "alt coins" which have small market caps and are not worth bothering about for institutions...

Everyone should hold a small amount of bitcoin if you can afford to, the upside is a lot greater  than the downside over the next few years...

    https://www.cnbc.com/2017/11/13/novogratz-says-institutional-investors-will-soon-adopt-bitcoin.html

I agree with your comment and disagree with conda above.

I think there's going to be huge upside in Dec and Jan when Wall street money starts to play with bitcoin.

This is currently an opportunity in a lifetime to make big returns. I believe in 3 to 5 yrs this will all stabilize and returns will be 5%.

This is the least riskiest time to invest in bitcoin. 3 yrs ago it was extremely high risk.

  6. The word on the street is that the Chinese miners are shifting to Bitcoin cash. There are 150,000 unconfirmed transactions on bitcoin legacy chain. If the has power on this chain continues to fall then its in serious trouble.

It seems that a lot of folk are selling bitcoin and buying bitcoin cash as they think it could replace the original. They could be right.

I sold my bitcoin in the high 7000 range. Yesterday I bought a chunk of BCH in the low 900 range. I think that to be safe I will hedge this by buying the old bitcoin when the price drops more. Even if I lose that money (i.e. if bitcoin chain dies) I will still have massive profits to offset against that small loss because if Bitcoin cash is the winning horse then it will go to the $5000 to $10,000 range.

Dario, are you worried at all. I read a short time ago that you bought in at high prices. Are you worried about losing all your money?

  7. Yesterday I started looking (for the first time) in the frozen food section of Top supermarket at good old Robinsons. I decided to buy 2 packets of frozen lamb chops. To my surprise they were really delicious. I cooked cous cous and also roasted potatoes / pumpkin.

The 4 lamb chops cost me a total of thb370 which is steep but worth it once in a while. If I buy a couple of steaks from the fresh meat area of Tops it would be around 150baht. By comparison eating lamb is expensive but I think I will start having it once a month. It reminds me of living back home.

When did you last eat lamb?

    cheers

  8. I'm not a POM but I do like the British brand of black teas that one can buy in Top supermarket. I recently also purchased some cardamon and add this to my tea bag with full strength milk. Absolutely delicious. Someone suggested maybe some nutmeg might go well with that combo.

I also try to drink some Japanese green tea everyday. I put a teaspoon of the green tea leaves in the cup and pour water directly over it. Its good for ones health.

Please share any other tea drinking tips. I want to hear some tips from anyone who cares to share their knowledge.

  9. We were driving around an area of Thailand in between Chantanburi and Isan recently and couldn't believe how unreliable google maps was. We had a fold out map with us and knew the route anyway. Google maps is absolutely rubbish and suggests the long way round for sure- eg. turn left when the correct way is right etc..... I categorically would NOT use it or rely on it if driving around Thailand. Maybe its ok for central Bangkok but as soon as your out of the city forget it. It will add hours to your trip if you rely on it driving in the country. Same goes for the crap GPS in my pickup truck. Its just as bad.

    cheers

I was a Type-A, driven personality even after I retired, and suffered from insomnia constantly.
In the last couple of years, I've accepted my mortality, lightened up, stopped taken things so damn serious, moved my personality toward a Type-B personality, and I sleep 8 to 9 hours a night without a problem.
Libido?  When you get into your 60s the number of women who starts to look pretty hot expands exponentially.  As long as I have a pulse, I'm still a man.  I enjoy the opposite sex!
See - you have something to look forward to!

how did you move to type b personality?

I am 73. I keep fit, 20 minutes exercise at 4.50am, 30 minutes on the treadmill in the evenings after dinner. I do a fair amount of exercise by walking, chores such as gardening and getting around doing stuff throughout the working day.

If I drink one or maybe more bottles of beer in one night, or, maybe one or two Whiskey sodas, then I have a restless night and get up for a pee maybe twice. Pepsi or Coca cola keep me awake most of the night. (I assume the other sugar laden/caffeine drinks do the same). I don't drink it.

If I don't drink alcohol, or other drinks such as above, and drink only water, between Monday and Thursday, I sleep 7/8 hours - deep, restful sleep and don't get up to pee. I always feel good in the mornings with that routine.

My libido is OK, but sometimes it isn't so good. But hey, I'm knocking on. I can't have everything. I have a happy life, I am around young people a lot and they help keep me young and interested in life. My younger female partner and I are very close - been together for nine years. No obvious problems. Her family is great. I speak and understand a little Thai.

If everything went to ratsh-t. I would change course and do something else. You make your own happiness in this life and I hasten to add, I am not a wealthy, (moneywise), person but I am careful with money. I still have my dreams for the future, I don't worry about things, I smile a lot, deliberately refuse to get grumpy over trivial stuff which us older people tend to do towards the younger generations and if I reflect on that - overall, I have a fairly contented life.

I am also lucky in that I don't suffer from the heat, (quite the opposite), I thoroughly enjoy Thai food, willingly smile at all Thais, (it pays dividends), and finally, I try really hard not to criticize about the Asian way, too much.

There you go. you asked, and this is my opinion. I hope it is of help to you.

I liked your reply. I try to smile at Thais as well. You remind me that I shouldn't criticize the asian lifestyle over here. Its wrong to do this

  12. Im fast approaching middle age and finding that Im not sleeping very well here in Thailand. I often wake up in the wee hours and can't stop thinking about things. I can't get back to sleep.

A lot of the respected members on this forum are in their 60s and 70s and thus I would like to know how many hours per night on average do you get?

I feel my level of happiness is also slowly going down as I get older. Im getting angry all the time at little things. Is this normal when you get older. I read about a guy on this forum that has a mantra that he says to himself everytime he gets angry:  'I need to lower my expectations'.   'I need to lower my expectations'  'I need to lower my expectations'

I now say that to myself as soon as I get the shits about something.

Finally, what about your libido? From 50 onwards do you find yourself less interested?

I do not trust Bitcoin. We hear many become millionaire with it, but this is a crazy idea somehow. Don't really know even if you will be able to sell what you buy. I think the USA will never allow something like this carry on and people use this instead of dollar. On the other hand all criminally earned money can be transfered via Bitcoin. Think of ISIS, other groups. Do you really think USA and other countries will really allow this to happen?

"I think the use will never allow something like this to carry on....''    <deleted>. The U.S government are regulating the exchanges in the U.S now:

itbit exchange is a perfect example.

Investment banks, e.g. Fidelity, are now linking bitcoin accounts to their funds. Do you think the U.S govt will suddenly take this away? No ways

As long as there are people gullible enough to buy and those greedy enough to sit on them, waiting for Bitcoin to reach even dizzier heights, the perceived value will go up.

The moment those rigging the system and those smart enough to cash in it's (value) will evaporate in a whiff.

There's no one 'rigging the system'. Its de-centralised. No one has control except the owners of Bitcoin- millions of us
