    This story sounds like B.S

Is it more a case that the Cambodian ladies didn't like it when the rich foreigner wouldn't pay shopping money or whatever. They complain to the corrupt police and make up a story?

Does anyone know any gossip about this story? What is the truth?

I don't think you can have registered capital without it being a registered partnership (it is really not a company).

He is married to a Thai so it will be 1 million.

Is it beneficial to keep that registered capital to a minimum of 1m ? so that then the liability is limited in the event of something going wrong.

I intend to pay 5m for the building and the wife will be borrowing the other half. Is it a daft idea to register 5m or not?

Finally, do you know if I can get a WP in either 1 or 2 above? or both situations?

    thanks

It doesn't matter as in this company structure all owners are liable for debts in the company.

You will be liable for 50% of the debt.

BTW, you will not get a work permit without two employees or bribes.

Actually are you sure about that regarding the liability of the debt. It depends on whether we originally set up an unregistered ordinary partnership  OR a registered ordinary partnership?

Im more interested in the specific question asked above. We approached 1 bank and the manager said its more complicated to get a business loan and takes longer. He said the interest rate is higher.

For the purposes of deducting interest on the loans I think its better to do a business loan.

  4. I was informed by one of the esteemed mods on this forum that I can get a WP by setting up a partnership company - as long as 1 million baht of registered capital is sorted and employing the thai folk.

My question in the title should really be asking if its possible to get this WP via either of the 2 types of partnership:

    1. 'Unregistered Ordinary Partnership' which is deemed to be subjected to personal tax rates

    2. 'Registered Ordinary Partnership' which is subjected to the corporate tax rate.

Is a WP available for both options?

Also, if you have this type of company operating for your partnership business which one do you recommend? Which one is more tax effective?

What sort of annual accounting fees are you having to pay? I read that Businesses are required to keep certain accounting  and other records with the exception of sole proprietors and ordinary 'unregistered partnerships'. Thus it seems that the unregistered option might be a better option?

Many thanks on any of this.

  5. The wife and I intend to set up a 'Thai limited liability partnership' company structure. I will be putting in 50% of the purchase price of a building. The wife wants to borrow her share from a bank.

Will the bank lend to the partnership company or to her personally? The developer who is selling the newly finished shops told us that the land is govt land and that we only get a 30 yr lease which would be registered at the land office.

The reason that we intend to set up the partnership company structure is that doing so will allow me to get a WP.

    thanks

You should get a 1 year extension of stay based on being married and not your job. That way your permit to stay isn’t reliant on your work. You can still get a WP and work with an extension based on marriage.

    • It’s possible to work as a teacher and for the new business.
    • You don’t need to be employed by the new company at all.
    • You could just be a shareholder.
    • You could just be a non-executive director of the new company.
    • The property could be owned either by your wife or by a limited company.
    • The revenue department shouldn’t treat your business any differently to a 100% Thai owned business.

I dont understand your first bullet point. Are you saying I can do that based on an investment visa (10million baht) or only by having a thai limited company?

He can not obtain a one year extension based on being married without meeting financial requirements so that may be an issue as he appears to want to quit teaching - even for working at the company he will be required to meet financials and work permit conditions.

i have over 800k in my bank acc. What other financial and WP conditions are you talking about?

    thanks

  8. It depends on what coins your going to buy. If you're after any of the main 5 popular ones then I would go for the trezor, keep key. Ledger nano S has the popular ones plus others like Ripple.

I would personally suggest you buy a diverse range of coins and buy the ledger nano S and the trezor. Ripple is cheap and will probably move to $5 in 2018.

You should watch youtube videos about how to move it from bx to the above wallets. Its easy.... childs play

Its true, we didn't lose the files as they were on iCloud.

  10. I'm currently a teacher and thinking of going into business with my wife who has high earning potential. I would paying for the purchase of 1/2 a building. She would borrow her half from the bank.

The decision I face is whether or not to quit teaching, which I dont really enjoy, and instead form a thai company where Im a 49% stakeholder and my wife owns 51%. In this situation is it easy for me to get an ext of stay based on the business and get a legal work permit? Would I need an attorney to obviously set up the company and maybe do the paperwork for the visa? How much on average  does this cost?

For the ext of stay do I get a12 month stamp? Is this renewable yr by yr?

In the above company situation, does the bank have to put the papers in the company name or in my wifes personal name?

Tax wise... does it mean that the tax dept will be strict with our business bc theres a farang involved? Conversely if we dont do all this and if I remain as a teacher... it is my understanding that the tax situation will be more favorable?

    thanks

BCH going vertical today - as I understand it only 21 million of these can be mined much like BTC?

thats correct. Its just a copy of the original bitcoin core code but with bigger sized blocks.

Its big news that bitcoin cash is on coinbase. Now all the 'mum and dad' investors will start hitting the buy button. 2018 is going to be a big yr for bitcoin cash. Many are predicting that it will replace bitcoin core. Its best to own both BTC and BCH for sure in case that happens quickly.

These seem like only partial results, there must be an overall WBC count and also LDL, HDL on the cholesterol.  It is also important to know the clinical picture, i.e. how is she feeling? What prtopbnlems? Lab results don't exist in a vacuum.

without knowing the total WBC count I cannot comment on the neutrophils. The eosinophils are definitely high and suggestive of either parasites or an allergic condition.

She also appears to have a urinary tract infection.

Her triglyceride level is definitely high, cannot comment on the cholesterol without knowing the LDL/HDL breakdwon. Did she make any changes to her diet? (Doesn't look like it...)

She should indeed have a repeat thyroid panel and no, it does not require fasting. I have trouble envisioning what treatment could have been given for the earlier result, the TSH  was suggestive of hyper rather than hypo thyroid (or the effects of taking a thyroid supplement)  but the T4 was normal and apparently no free T3 done which should have been the next step before proceeding to treat.   One cannot diagnose hyperthyroid based on a low TSH with normal T4 alone and her rsults certainly did nto suggest hypothyroid.

In terms of whom to see - an endocrinologist can handle the thyroid and lipid issues but she also needs to see  an internist regarding the likely UTI and the eosinophilia.

Again, please indicate what if any symptoms she is having as other investigations/specialists might or might not be indicated. Did she ever have a cardiac workup for the fainting spell? Have there been recurrences?

I took khun yai for another check up and thyroid was normal this time which is good. They did another urine analysis (see attached photo). Once again there was bacteria in the urine and I suggested maybe she has Urinary tract infection. No he said 'its normal'. Before being moved on I said what about the Blood in the urine etc. Ok he said 'she should do a pap smear'. I couldn't wait around for the result for that and her son took her back to the dr to get that result. From what I understand the dr said its all ok and that she should go back in 3 weeks for another test/ checkup. The hospital that we visited was in the sticks and at xmas time we will be in a city that has the 'bangkok hospital' chain. Do you think we should go and see a real dr and do another urine test there? What does Blood +1 mean? RBC 1-2 and WBC 2-3. Epi Sq 0-1. What does all that mean?

Do you think we should go to the pharmacist and get a course of antibiotics to treat the urinary tract? The urine result from 1 month ago also indicated Bacteria = 'found'. If so what antibiotics do you think?

thanks Sheryl. Sorry to bother you on this day of rest

  13. I think its going to rise heaps this month and in Jan.

The other causes of a crash might be if the 'Tether' issue raises its ugly head. Or if an exchange goes bust. Or if the futures market manipulate the market.

If it does correct there will be plenty of bargain hunters buying in. It always happens like this with bitcoin.

The bitcoin brand is here to stay. But I would also buy Bitcoin cash as I agree above with OP.

By this time next yr who knows what the price could be. Maybe 50,000 to 100,000 if this hype continues.. If an ETF is introduced for bitcoin then holy crap the price will go up for sure.

Login with root and no password, press login twice.

    Google root, HighSierra.

I looked at that. But after turning on the laptop the user name (my wifes name) is displayed and the guest user. There is no way that I can change the user to root. I tried entering root in the password but it doesn't work. We can't get past the login screen.

When I was on the phone for 2 hours with the apple technician a message was displayed 'out of disc space'.

I just clicked on the 'guest' user and was able to log on and safari was working. But there are no other icons on the desktop.

If we send it to apple to fix and if they totally rebuild the laptop does that wipe clean iCloud files? This is the big question for us. We don't want to lose the files.

Thanks for your opinion on all this

  15. When I first moved to the sticks (N.E thailand) the local Robinsons was a peaceful place. Fast forward 5 yrs and now they have these idiots with a mic in one hand and a loud mouth promoting / selling something. For the first time they now have one inside Top supermarket everyday. As soon as I entered I could hear the loud voice speaking fast in Thai. The audio was excessively loud so I decided to go to the desk to ask them to turn down the volume. On arrival I saw a large lady screaming into the mic. I gave them some feedback they obliged thankfully.

I think its ok to be assertive in these situations and ask them to turn down the volume. Most Thais are probably oblivious to the issue or they are too polite to say something.

  16. Its bloody annoying to be locked out of ones laptop due to a bug in the latest operating system. <deleted>.

We spent 2 hours in Robinsons at the apple store and it still doesn't work. They told us to call back the technician in HKong.

Apple used to be stable now its code base is becoming like Windows. Full of bug / problems.

First of all, the WBC differential (neutrophils, lymphocytes etc) is of no importance if the overall WBC is normal, so forget about that.

The slight BUN elevation, assuming the creatnine was normal, suggests she was dehydrated when the test was done.

The cholesterol profile could likely be improved through changes to diet, whether you can get her to do that is another matter. (More fish, vegetables; less fatty meats, less white rice or switch to brown rice, avoid sweets and junk food etc).

Most important however is that the tests done are not relevant to her fainting episode  and the reason for that remains unknown. as I said before, it makes more sense to have her evaluated for that than to undergo a general physical exam.  A cardiologist would be the place to start.

    Hi Sheryl,

Further to the above results Khun Yai today received a set of blood results.

    The anomalies are:

    Neutrophil 32.9

    Eosinophil 25.4  (normal range 0-6)

    Urine:

    Nitrite: positive

    Leukocyte: 1+ negative

    Cholesterol:  240

    Triglyceride: 210

    Creatinine  0.69

She forgot to test the thyroid.... despite being diagnosed with abnormal thyroid results. She took the thyroid medication for 3 months and then stopped.

If she wants to see a specialist at a regional hospital tomorrow, what sort of dr should she see?

Does she have to fast for a thyroid test tomorrow morning?

thanks for your opinion on the results. When comparing the bumrungrad results above to these new ones it seems that chelesterol is much higher. She's worried about the Eosinophil

Such a difference in prices from the different exchanges, Kraken's high is about 200 dollars below that, and other exchanges are all prices inbetween.

I'm a newbie, so can anyone tell me if the experienced traders move their currencies between exchanges to get the best rates?

As for me, I'm trying to pluck up the courage to transfer my BTC from the exchange to my Electrum online wallet. Frightened I might make a balls of it, even though I only have a few thousand baht worth.

Just buy your bitcoin and move it to your wallet. Forget about prices until you go to sell it and convert to fiat again.

Think of it like a bank. withdraw or send  / deposit or receive. Copy and paste the bitcoin deposit address that electrum gives you and stick that in the exchange field. Take screen shots. Give it a go. Buy some bitcoin cash for sure to cover yourself (hedge your bets).

    good luck

  19. According to coincodex  Bitcoin hit 10,000 today.

I believe we will see substantial gains in 2018. By this time next year I would be surprised if its not in the 20k to 30k range at least.

I disclose that I own Bitcoin and have bitcoin cash holdings as a hedge. I also own Ethereum.

    Cheers

What happens when you press  Shift-Opt-Cmd-Q

    MAC OS X HINTS

A simple way to protect your files when you walk away from your computer is to hit Shift-Command-Option-Q to do a fast logout of your user. Your Mac will go back to the login screen. However, there’s a huge downside to this method—all of your currently-open documents will close, and any running applications will quit prior to the logout. Clearly there must be better alternatives, and there are.

A relatively quick method of locking your Mac—while still leaving your programs running—is to activate the screen saver using a hot corner . To do this, open the Desktop & Screen Saver System Preferences panel, activate the Screen Saver tab, and click the Hot Corners button. Decide which corner of your screen you’d like to use, then click the corresponding pop-up menu and select Start Screen Saver. Now when it’s time to walk away, just fling your mouse into that corner of the screen, and you’ll trigger the screen saver.

I ended up working out how to use hot corners.. but.... when I drag hover over the left hand corner it does invoke the screen saver. But if I hit the enter key 5 or 10 seconds later the whole laptop screen opens again. ie. it is NOT locked at all.

I want to be able to invoke the log in screen right away.
