  1. lets not forget that her father Aung San was a communist,an insurgent and collaborated with the Japanese during world war 2

the reason the west and everybody else is kissing her behind is that Burma is stuffed full of natural resources to exploit including : natural gas, timber, tin, antimony, zinc, copper, tungsten, lead, coal, limestone, precious stones, hydropower, marine products, and petroleum.

  2. I would like to buy a car here in Thailand but when i check out the classifieds I see people wanting up to 200,000 baht for a clapped out 15 year old car with a quarter of a million km on the clock and unknown history

I have therefore decided to put a deposit on a small car and pay the 6000 baht a month HP payment but would like others opinion on which car to choose in the 400,000 baht range

    the choices seem to be

    Mazda 2

    Suzuki Swift

    Honda Brio

    Mitsubishi Mirage

    Nissan March

which of these cars is the best for all round value, performance and reliability in your opinion?

also any good deals etc happening in the Chiang mai area

  3. what brand helmet do you have?

I noticed that Bilmola have a photocromic visor but other than that i reckon a tinted visor will always be a bit of a hinderance at night.

I have 2 helmets, one with a mirror visor for day and another with clear for night; yes, i am too lazy to keep changing the visor on one helmet!

i bought myself a pair of cyclist type clear wrapround specs from the local market for 100 baht and wear them to keep the dust out of my eyes at night...the tinted visor stays up while driving at night

  4. I was at the coffee shop by the lake at CM university today with my g/f when a thai guy turned up on a small electric two wheeled scooter that he bought off the internet..on talking with him it turned out hes a final year engineering student at the Uni and suggested that we may be able to get one of the students there to custom build some sort of electric powered trike as part of his degree project..he is going to consult the teachers and ask around the students for us so fingers crossed we can get something purpose built for the cost of the parts.....if it works out i will start a new thread on this subject...thanks to all the posters for their input

  5. I just wanted to jump in on what Gonzo is saying. I think it's awesome what you are trying to do, i don't mean to come off negative and say "you CAN'T" I just want know to know what to expect. Since I love these bikes, I am always on the look out for more, so I will keep searching and if I find any leads, I will PM you.

There's only one question I can't answer, and that's "What electric start engine will fit on a Yamaha Chappy with little to no modification?".

the chappy i spoke about in my PM had a Honda Wave 110 engine that fitted snugly underneath the frame,it seemed to have been attached by two studs in the top of the engine onto a cross piece between the frame.it looked as if it was meant to be there

  6. Unfortunatly, I don't think that with a 10.000 baht budjet you will find or be able to buy or build a modified Chaly bike with a electric start engine.

Chaly bikes are VERY popular and very seldom do you find a great deal on them unless they are totally thrashed.Any Thai that has one will understand the value of thease little gems, and won't let it go cheap.

Iv'e seen bare frames go for as much as 4000B. Most come with 50 or 70cc enginges and then there is the rare full automatic version.

Although Many after market parts are avaiable for them, the price does add up very quickly when modifiing them.

A dream 100cc will bolt right in will a few mod's and a wave 125 engine requires somemore fabrication.

I stop and ask everytime I see one for sale, and havent (in my opinion) found a good deal in a long time.

Fun project and a good cause though. You might have to help them out with that budjet.

yes would be looking for a trashed one with a knackered engine....the idea is to build something functional rather than beautiful as it will only be used within a km or two of their home to visit the shop or friends

  7. I have built one of these in the past and am building one now.

There are plenty for sale for decent prices around Chiang Mai,

You can hit the Saturday market Gat nua (i always mispronounce this) out in San Patong.

There are a few for sale around Wat Pong Noi / Umong

    www.mocyc.com and chalythailand.com

I saw a Chappy for sale outside of Robinson. When you come out of the parking lot from the side (Highway 108) immediately there is a mechanic on the right hand side with a blue chappy.

You can find plenty of engines on those websites as well.

Might be able to find a 100cc Chaly for under 10k

Take your time, the price of Chaly's have skyroceted in the last few years. They used to be 3k, now you can find lots of people asking 5-8k for a stock one.

I don't have much experience with the Chappy, but they might even be cheaper.

Might be able to put on a Yamaha Belle engine, and those bikes are cheaaaapp.

Sorry, I kinda let this post flow with my thoughts.

thanks for your input......the engine would have to have an electric start due to them not being able to use the kickstart..the original engine would be ditched due to its small size for pulling a sidecar and the fact they dont have the elctric start

  8. My girlfriend has two aunts who are twins and both suffer from Achondroplasia or Dwarfism to you and me

they have just turned 50 and both live together in a small wooden house in a village outside CM

with advancing age they are finding it hard to get around outside of the house...they would really like to be able to have some form of transport but a conventional motorcycle is out of the question due to their height...just recently i saw a Honda Chaly with a small sidecar attached that had a Honda Wave engine inserted in the frame which i realised might be sutaible for them with some modifications to the seat height etc

the ladies would be paying for the project themselves with a budget of around 10,000 baht

the local village m/c guy would be doing the work

i said i would try and source the parts to begin

a Honda Chaly or Yamaha Chappie non runner (the latter is probably better due to the central spine being lower)but either will suffice

a write off Honda Dream/Wave with electric start.....need engine, wiring loom, start switch etc

any leads on the above plus any advice on the project would be welcome.thanks

  9. It's sort of like changing the CPU on a laptop.

    Sure, you can do it.

But the cost is so prohibitive that it makes no sense. Different battery, wiring, switches, the starter motor, etc.

Sell the old Wave, buy another one with electric start is my advice.

i see your point but what i would like to know is whether a starter motor would slot straight in to the engine or are there some mechanical parts (ie crankcase design) that would stop u doing that

  10. My father had a similar condition. It was not the brain at all. It was his inner ear. I think he was given some on-going medication that reduced the effect, but it was incurable. Your condition sounds similar. You might do another check of your inner ears by a competent ENT.

competent ent, mmmm that may be a problem, but it's a thought to get it checked again, funnily enough, a great deal of friends have also commented that it maybe an ear prob.

last year i had dizzy spells for about 3 months and got the usual raft of pharmacuticals from CM Ram when i went to see the doctor. The side effects of which were so horrendous i ended up not taking them. I made a trip back to the UK to see family and paid a visit to my doctor who immediately said i had blocked sinuses behind my eardrums and recommended i buy a bottle of Olbas Oil from Boots the chemist on the way home.a few drops in hot water and inhale with a towel over your head..the problem cleared up almost immediately....as somebody else said it is worth the effort to do some keep fit like swimming or the gym especially if u are not working and eating and drinking too much

  11. the standard tryes are

    90/90-14

    100/90-14

i was in a shop today and they has a Michelin M29 front 90/90-14

    Michelin M45 rear 100/80-14

notice that the rear is an 80 instead of a 90...not too sure what this means and would like to know whether these tyres would be suitable

they worked out at 1550 baht for the pair which is less than half the price of the Pirellis.......a 100/90 was not listed on his computer

  12. Sings at Global house bear the electrical department as well as a sign shop on Hang dong road across from Makro

bought a small brass like sign with "beware of dangerous dog" on it and a pic of a doberman.....cost 65 baht.....

at Global House near the lighting section

  13. would like to buy a "Beware of the Dog"" sign obviously in Thai language.....something like in the pic

as an aside the second pic is probably more appropriate for Thailand lol

  14. Just dumped my PCX125 this morning - partly due to debris on the road but definitely partly due to the crap original IRC tyres. With the wet season coming, I'm not going to trust them to keep me upright. If you Google "pcxclub thailand" and then click on the forum advertisers logos at the top you'll get taken to threads showing their parts for sale inc tyres. Seems good availabilty for Bridgestone, Michelin & Pirelli at around 2,000+ THB a pair.

    Cheers,

    Pikey.

lucky u havent fitted all that bling u have bought for it yet...always suspected u were a scooter boy at heart despite the rockers disguise

checked out the price of Pirellis and they wanted 3300 for a pair
