Can a UK Passport Be Renewed Online in Thailand?
My apologies - I read @transam's post a little hastily..... Yes, of course, it can be done by post to an agent in Thailand - the renewal application does have to be submitted to VfS in person (which can be an authorised 3rd party).

If it a 'legal requirement' can you please let me have a reference point from the Civil and Commercial Code (or any other source).

Can a UK Passport Be Renewed Online in Thailand?
Yes, it is physically possible. BUT anyone taking this 'fraudulent route' (fraud is a bit strong, technically a false declaration). Does anyone attempting this route ever consider the possibility that an eagle-eyed officer at UKPA might pick up the fact that the passport has an entry stamp for Thailand.....................with no corresponding exit stamp.

You are recommending something that involves a false declaration. The world is full of smart-arsses trying to beat the system. Here is the official response from UKPA:- Thank you for your enquiry. The Home Office advise that for security purposes a passport must not be taken over a border without the holder in possession. If you post your passport to a residential address in another country it potentially could be retained by the Border Agency and cancelled, This could influence that actual granting of a UK Passport as there is no absolute entitlement. The package you use could also be damaged during the delivery process and be compromised or end up in the possession of a 3rd party which could lead to identity theft. To confirm the notes on the declaration form that you need to read before signing; When the application form is completed and signed by yourself, if you are not resident at the address you provide, you are making a false statement for which you could be prosecuted and a potential prison sentence. If the passport is lost in transit or has a delivery issue you will need to attend in person to collect it. As you possibly will not have any other travel documents to return to the UK it would leave you in a difficult position. Taking the above into account and you state that the action you are suggesting will save time and money, the repercussions of being caught are severe. I hope this has been of assistance and recommend strongly that you follow the standard process. How to register a heir/next of kin with bank
Same same. My point is that I see no point in giving a bank your Will (I doubt that they would want it) - it cannot act on it until a court has granted Probate.

How to register a heir/next of kin with bank
A Will does not become effective until Probate has been obtained.

I have never had an issue with, what was my local town, 'Kodak shop'. The owner there was aware of the UK requirements but I also took the guide note from UKPA.

It's immigration closed on Monday 12th August?
No - as @brewsterbudgen said ................the date is related to the Queen Mother. (FYI - she was only queen whilst her husband was alive. She retains the title Queen Sirikit, Queen Mother).

Relying on Google will be your downfall. Mother's Day in Thailand When Thailand first introduced Mother’s Day in 1950 it observed was in April. In 1976, the date of Mother's Day was changed to August 12th to commemorate the birthday of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit. https://www.officeholidays.com/holidays/thailand/mothers-day#google_vignette
