Interesting that windows defender is rated so highly on TVF.
Can it prevent an application from using the web?
Ive used the free Comodo Internet Security for a number of years, it has a Geek service which you need to pay for to use, but you can disable it and sort out any detected problems yourself.
The firewall is easy to use.
It will sandbox any app it thinks is dodgy, but you can tick a box to say: don’t sandbox this app again.
Just scan a single file if you worry that what you just downloaded may be untrusted. Etc etc.
so having used it for many years, I don’t fancy trying anything else coz of the necessary learning curve.

OP, just use the free www.cronometer.com.
enter foods and beverages you would like to eat.
cronometer will show you the content in terms of carbs, protein, minerals, vitamins etc.
you also get to choose your eating model goals.
A recent study showed that keto folk who ate a little carbs lost more weight than zero carb folk. Personally, I think that zero carbs is possibly dangerous.
Just don’t overdo them and avoid all drinks like soda and processed foods.
Can you walk for half an hour daily?
Get a good nights sleep every night.
Eat a variety of foods, mostly from plants.
Not too much protein either.
look at the palm of your hand.
A piece of meat or fish, that size and thickness is all you need per day.
Not Every Meal lol
To gain weight be sure to eat carbs and fat together, so best not do that?
good luck

Partly. They are definitely an easy retrofit and when talking to a Thai sparks he will (almost) certainly understand "Safe-T-Cut".
For a new install using RCDs in your consumer unit / breaker box is a neater and cheaper method.

We'll start to build a house after the rainy season this year, so I will try to find one like that.
I do not know much about electricity and without this post not sure at all that I would have thought, of it, I know just the differential circuit breakers it does not seem to be the same thing. So maybe one day in the future I will owe my life to a Crossy 's picture of August 2018
In the above post Crossy gave more advice which may be very helpful for a new installation.

Thank you, I am eager to learn and you posted it just in time before I went searching for what, besides Deutsche Bundesbahn, the DB mentioned by MartinL, might mean in the context of electrical wiring. By the end of today, I shall be an expert, if not in electrical installation, at least in its terminology.
Some years ago, the UK made some changed as to what a person may do or not do in his own home in an attempt to improve safety.
Years ago a non technical colleague ectended his mum's standard lamp and couldn't understand why it blew the fuses.
After all, he had "correctly" joined all three wires together and safely taped them up!!!!
Sometimes, a little knowledge can be dangerous..
I am so out of date, I got me City & Guilds on the 13th edition of the IEE regulations LOL

I had a Safe T Cut installed, no earth!
the Thai professional said, no need Earth, Thai electricity not same as faring electricity!
The aircon bypasses the main circuit breaker and can only be disconnected at the meter in the street. Our whole moobaan is wired this way.
well, the main breaker would have to be bigger and cost more?
There is no safety thinking in Thailand, life is cheap.
RIP poor man.

Carbs and sugar in every <deleted> thing (rice) is the culprit here. I dont know how the thais stay so skinny when rice and sugar is in every meal?
I went atkins and cooked at home every meal and hit the GYM hard and lost 20kg so fast I thought there might have been a health issue like cancer. once I hit target I got back on the beer and put most of it back on as the body burns carbs and calories from alcohol first . I kept the Atkins diet as I love it but the beer won in the end
Started Atkins again yesterday this time Im gonna make it last ?
Hee hee.
What you did was a short time lifestyle change and you saw the benefits.
Then another life style change - got un fit again.
Answer, go back and make it a life style change and keep it going.
Stop the Yo Yo!!!!
Best of luck, I'm sure you can do it!!!

Cannot be changed much more. Took a lot of work to get them to work as they have now and I dare not change.
Fasting like this will not affect your metabolic rate. Had some pretty fancy doctors go into depth over that issue with me and they told me in most cases, it can turn up a notch in fact if you are eating right. It all depends on timing. It is awfully complicated and we have two camps on this at the moment but the doctors I have seen in Australia, seem to know what they are doing.
Almost impossible to find in Thailand but I have a good network in Australia that spoke to my current doctors here via email over a long period and they now seem to be on the same page. It took some time, but it has been workable.
Thank you very much for the encouraging words.
Really great to hear that you have a good set of medical supportors that know what they are doing, so really hard to find.
Having said that Aus might be the best place to find em!
There are so many ""urban Myths" out there.
e.g., a recent study showed that a group of strict Keto eaters and a group that also included carbs did a same calories/day controlled diet. At the end, the group with the carbs lost most body weight!.
Thus: we need carbs.....
I'm an old geezer, 76, now weighing in at 70Kg or less.
Now, more or less off all meds.
It's not easy to stay this way, especially since there are 2 things I can't resist.
Pain and temptation ! LOL
Good on you M8, stay strong and on top!!!

I take medications that gain massive amounts of weight and started these drugs five years ago. I went from 71kg to 107kg in one year. I was stable and still alive, and that's a good start but the weight gain was so painful. Once I stabilized at 107kg, I started the hard game of taking it off. When on drugs like Epilim, Lithium, Stresam, and Risperidone, it is a very hard task. All fat drugs but they keep me sane and alive. At that time, it was all that mattered. I was on Lithium for around 30 years, but my condition changed and more drugs needed to be used. Lithium never really gained me weight but when paired with Epilim, the weight piled on really fast.
I am now down to 93kg and have a target weight of 82kg. This has taken two years to achieve. I just don't eat. I have been now on a fasting diet for a long time. Eat once every 20 hours a normal meal and drink lots of water. Since I can spend a great deal of time in bed sick, I try to walk for an hour or so a day. I have just bought a decent treadmill and put it next to my bed.
The foods I eat are very basic (fish, meat, salads, and veggies) and no more than 1500 calories a day. I was not on large amounts of medication when I lived in Thailand before this advent, so I did not gain weight. Being active at that stage of my life and just eating a good breakfast and a meal at 4 pm and nothing else after until breakfast in the morning, kept the weight off.
I am a firm believer or IMF (intermediate fasting) and have been for most of my life. My parents are 80 and 78, and both have fast for most of their lives. They are so fit and have very few medical problems, and Dad has the basic undertone of a six pack at 80. They eat at 12 noon every day, have a small breakfast at 5 am and don't eat at night anything but a piece of fruit. They have done this, as long as I can remember. The meal at 12 noon would be around 2000 calories, so they are not starving themselves, and it is always, once again fish, veggies, salads and meats like lamb or rib fillet every second day.
I have friends who drink like fish here and never gain weight but for a few of them, once they reached 70 and kept the drinking up; they suddenly got very fat. I had two uncles who were extremely thin and drank heavily, and once they hit the 70 mark; they just got very obese, very sudden and then major medical problems set in. I think I saw a lot more fattish farangs over in the Philippines than here when I lived there. More likely the food (which is terrible compared to Thailand) and much cheaper beer.
Sorry to hear your story, Meds can be both good and bad and when bad, they obscure everything and stuff things up so that you body no longer responds as it used to.
A good friend of mine had meds that actually made him depressed.
Recently, he moved to another Dr and had his meds changed.
In just a week he is much more like the guy he used to be.
Can your meds be tweeked in the hope that the weight can be losed?
Great that you are doing your best to take control of things.
Only prob I can think of with a constant and reduced calorie intake is that your metabolic rate may turn down.
Thus making it even harder to control your weight.
Because of the effects of your meds, it must be difficult to find a MD who actually understands nutrition to the point that they can make a diet for you and exercise program that is sustainable in the long term and with the goal of returning you to your healthy weight and yet continue to gain the benefits from the meds.
Thanks for sharing and showing that someone in your awful situation can still keep control and not simply fall into the lazy trap.
Well done M8, good luck and keep it up.

Interesting thread.
I'm a fairly recent convert to this 'nutrition & weight' lark & frankly cannot believe how easy it is or how well it works. My weight had plateaued for around a year before I became aware of the 5 2 system which I have modified to 4 3 (the lower no being 'fasting' days @ 600 cals).
The meals are delicious, I don't have any cravings and my trousers are starting to rattle ?
Great stuff.
IMO, "diets" are short term tools to correct a specific problem.
After tha it needs life style changes to stay as healthy as is possible for any particular individual.
May I suggest that you look into doing an occasional detox and also consider doing a five day water only fast.
The benefits of which are amazing. There's loads of info on the web, Facebook etc.
Do you have sufficient iodine in your diet?
One quick test is to paint some iodine on your wrist, let it dry and see how long it takes to be absorbed.
If it takes only a short time, you may be deficient.
If little change, then your levels may be OK.
I do this about once a week.
Our bodies are clever and if they need iodine it will be absorbed through our skin.
I never read about anyone overdosing by applying iodine to their skin.
(In the past, it was spread all over woonds to disfect them - no problems)
Do your own research.
There are hazzards to Keto Paleo, Plant based diets if not done correctly.
Me, loads of multi coloured veggies as the base and a bit of everything else.
Generally, no added sugar and fairly low carbs.
However, there are days when carbs are high and I pig out.
I think it is nothing to worry about and it keeps the body in balance.
If you stay low calories for too long, expect that your metabolic rate will go down - not something you want to happen.
Best of luck

It is unnecessary, and like you and most others who married abroad, we didn't either.
Had you done so, all you would now be able to do is obtain a copy of your Thai marriage certificate from the GRO. How would this satisfy the Spanish any more than the original?
This problem has been discussed here before when the Spanish embassy in Bangkok has tried to insist on confirmation that a Thai marriage is legal in the UK. If memory serves, a complaint to SOLVIT resulted in the embassy being told such confirmation is not required under the directive.
Perhaps you should make such a complaint while British citizens still can?
They don't; but if enough people complain to SOLVIT then the EU will make them care.
Many thanks kind Sir.
I have made my complaint to Solvit (I didn't know about them, so many thanks).

1) You and your wife exercised your rights under the EU Freedom of Movement Directive to live in Spain. Apart from a few procedural differences, the situation would be exactly the same for a Spaniard moving to the UK with their Thai spouse; until Brexit of course.
A Spaniard moving to Spain with their Thai spouse would have to satisfy the requirements of the Spanish immigration law and pay the Spanish fees. Whether they are more or less onerous than the UK's I don't know.
2) It has never been possible to register a foreign marriage again in the UK. This is because UK law recognises nearly all foreign marriages which are legal in the country where they took place as legal in the UK as well; the exceptions being polygamous marriages, marriages where one or both are under age and similar. All that was possible was to deposit a one's foreign marriage certificate with the General Registry Office; though so doing had zero effect on the UK's recognition of the marriage nor it's legality in the UK. It is this expensive service which ceased on 1st January 2014. Couples who paid for this service prior to that date can still obtain a copy of their foreign marriage certificate from the GRO.
The Spanish requirement you speak of is a Spanish requirement, not an EU one and certainly not a UK one. As you have always been unable to register your Thai marriage in the UK, how did you manage to meet this Spanish requirement previously?
3) General visit visas have been combined, like most category of visit visa, into the standard visitor visa; the rules and requirements have not changed.
As you and your wife were living in Spain while you exercised your treaty rights in 2013, then she could have obtained a free UK EEA family permit to visit the UK; provided she was travelling with or to join you.
A point you acknowledge in your point 6 and have used since! It is not the fault of the British government if you were ignorant of this fact in 2013.
I cannot comment on her refusal as I do not know the full details, including the reasons given by the ECO for same.
4) Those in the UK who need to renew their biometric residence permit and therefore have their biometrics taken once more can do so at designated post offices if applying by post or at a UKVI premium service centre if applying in person.
5) Because pensioners, or rather their foreign partners, are already covered by existing types of visas; standard visit visa if they want to visit, settlement visa if they want to settle or, at least until Brexit, EEA family permit if, as you are, they are exercising a treaty right to live in another EEA member state
6) The subject of freedom of movement for UK nationals in the EU and EU nationals in the UK post Brexit is a vexed one; but nothing to do with this enquiry.
The subject of human rights is also outside the remit of this enquiry. But, government's of the UK and other signatories to the ECHR have successfully argued in the ECtHR that their immigration laws do not breach Article 8.
Indeed, nothing in your proposed letter is anything to do with this enquiry; as bobrussell says
Thanks for your commentary, I shall not send these thoughts.
Although it would be nice if a visa allowed a foreign spouse to settle in the UK without needing to pass all the language exams, if they are not intending to work and are fully supported by their other half's pensions etc. Makes me wonder how the system would cope with someone with learning difficulties.....
as to: The Spanish requirement you speak of is a Spanish requirement, not an EU one and certainly not a UK one. As you have always been unable to register your Thai marriage in the UK, how did you manage to meet this Spanish requirement previously?
I did not deposit our marriage certificate because I was told that it was unnecessary.
What a mistake to make.....
Our marriage certificate was new and within the three month window that Spain required.
We were also required to swear oaths at the Consulate in Malaga as I mentioned.
The Spanish system is somewhat strange in that a date on a marriage certificate does not signify anything as far as I can tell.
The Consular Office in Malaga said that they have tried to get the Spanish to drop this requirement because it causes unnecessary work for the Consul, extra expense and stress for the people concerned.
The Spanish do not care.....
We have visited the Consul again and have sworn new oaths, the cost was 175 GBP which I think is excessive when considering what is actually involved.
Now we have our fingers crossed...

(Any quick feedback would be greatly appreciated, I will wait for a day and then send it.)
(Cheers)
In response to your “Call for evidence: Home Office approach to charging for services”Please email the Chief Inspector: [email protected]
https://www.gov.uk/government/news/call-for-evidence-home-office-approach-to-charging-for-services
1. I married a Thai lady in February 2013 and we travelled to Spain where I have lived full time since my retirement in 2000.
Sure there were hoops to jump through and some expense and it took about 5 months but she was granted a Residency ID Card which, along with her Thai passport, allowed free travel for 5 years before it needed to be renewed (No further Visa’s or other paperwork or fees required).
There was No verbal language test,
No written language test and
No knowledge of the country tests (so no fees).
We had to pay the British Consul at Malaga €243 (for a 15 minute job) to create a sworn document in both English and Spanish to prove that we were still married and living together (the Spanish Foreign Office required this document).
2. The UK has changed the law so that we are no longer allowed to register a foreign marriage and this is creating big problems in Spain.
To renew residency, Spain requires a current copy of the marriage certificate which could be obtained from the UK after registering the foreign marriage. We are currently in limbo and unable to renew my wife’s residents ID Card.
3. At that time there were only two types of Visa suitable for us, a General Visitors Visa (no longer available) or a Settlement Visa.
In October 2013 My wife applied online for a general visitor’s visa to visit the UK (to meet my family and friends – a 2 week visit planned) which required a 1,200 Km round trip to Madrid to visit the British Embassy to present the supporting documents and have her fingerprints and photo taken. I think the cost was €114.
The application was refused “On the grounds of probability” that she would overstay or need funding from the UK Government, among other things.
4. In Spain, the local Foreign Offices have fingerprint scanners and photo capabilities. They are used during the process of issuing the Residence Card. Why does the UK not arrange for this system to be used?
It would save costly visits to the Embassy with the need for hotel accommodation etc.
5. I am retired and have sufficient resources and pensions such that we are fully independent.
So why is there not another Visa to allow people like us to visit/stay in the UK?
When in the UK we contribute to the economy by spending our money in the local shops etc.
6. As European Residents in Spain, we are allowed freedom of movement within the EU and we have since visited the UK for a short holiday on that basis – No Visa required!
(We were grilled at the point of entry each time to ensure that we were genuine visitors and I have no problem with that).I am not sure what will happen after the UK leaves the EU.
My hope is that you will create another class of visa for retirees (and others?) who have sufficient resources so as not to be a burden on the UK Government.
I think that it is intolerable that a British Citizen is forced to live outside their country of birth because they choose to marry someone from an “Unscheduled Territory”.
Do we have any human rights?

I think some gentle nudges and some direction pointing is in order with your friends son. He is far too young to let a doctor destroy his health like that with insulin. Some of the doctors advocating total diet as the cure to Type II diabetes refer to the treatment method with insulin as "Doctor assisted suicide!" My old college room mate died at age 48 blind with missing limbs from lifetime insulin. He was treated by the best expert doctor at the largest university hospital in the midwest USA. The protocol was called timed carbohydrate eating. Doctors believed carbs were so important that they had diabetics use little clocks and had them eat controlled portions of carbs every few hours. We know today this is total nonsense but that was the medical treatment being pushed at the time. Today my old college roomate might be alive on a Keto or no carb diet and have no health problems at all. Alternatives were not known when we were younger.
The doctors often standardize on a bad treatment protocol encouraged by the drug companies and not by the best interest or health of their patients.
And if the kid and parents don't take the advice don't be too hard on yourself. Today I have pizza with a friend that uses insulin. He insist he is just fine and getting better with his medications everyday. The fact that he is not seems to delude him entirely and after one good natured attempt in a full afternoon of supplying him with lots of alternative treatment and a few books I gave up. My friend just believes you should listen to your doctors you are paying for the best advice possible. I bow out and don't do anything further with trying to help him. It is similar I guess to friends that used to smoke years ago. After you tell them a few times you give up.
Good Luck 2 you! I hope for the best. There is so much out there today to help people with Type II diabetes get off of all the treatments that damage their bodies that is sad the medical community is still pushing outdated damaging treatments.
I agree with you.
On Facebook there is a guy who was morbidly obese. He had type II diabetes and had lost the feeling in his feet to the extent that on a bonfire night, he stood so close to the fire that he got second degree burns on both feet without realising it.
This guy changed his lifestyle and has reversed everything.
The before and after pictures of him are amazing.
He created a documentary series of his journey and I watched it while it was free.
He showed success and failure (when he fell off the wagon), it was very moving.
He now had many followers who are following in his lifestyle changes and having similar successes to him.
OK, so now he earns money from sharing....
So what!

Here is something I came across and I have subscribed to the group because I am interested to see Keto and other popular ways of eating from other points of view.
I have not researched this doctor so I have no idea of where her funding comes from or what secret agendas she may have.
This is what an email from her tells me:-
About Dr. Ritamarie Loscalzo, MS, DC, CCN, DACBN
Dr. Ritamarie Loscalzo, founder of the Institute of Nutritional Endocrinology, is passionately committed to transforming our current broken disease-care system into a true health care system where each and every practitioner is skilled at finding the root cause of health challenges and uses the wisdom of nature combined with modern scientific research to restore balance.
Dr. Ritamarie, a licensed Doctor of Chiropractic with Certifications in Acupuncture, Nutrition, Herbal Medicine, and HeartMath®, specializes in digestion, thyroid, adrenal, and insulin imbalances. She’s also a master at using palate-pleasing, whole fresh food as medicine, and is a best-selling author, speaker, and internationally recognized nutrition and women’s health authority with over 25 years of clinical experience.
I'm sure you've heard the buzz about the paleo diet. A huge number of functional doctors are recommending it for all their patients, with the belief that it's the best diet for inflammation, fatigue, and autoimmune disease. The keto diet is the big rage these days, too. People are buying ketone meters and working hard to stay in ketosis. And plant-based diets are claimed to reverse heart disease, cancer, and diabetes, yet many doctors and nutritionists don't think they are healthy. Each of these approaches have hazards, and it's important for you to know about them. It's super confusing to know what to eat. Every summit, Facebook video, and expert blog is full of information, claiming to have the perfect diet for you. It's to the point that my patients and clients are becoming food-phobic.That's why I decided to put together a brand new webinar, "The Hazards of Paleo, Keto, and Plant-based Diets."Does anyone else know about this free seminar?
Will anyone else check it out?
I get the feeling from some of the recent posts that Keto is being treated as some sort of religion -
Whereas I think of it as just a tool to help us regain control of our health - Despite all the effort that Governments, the food and health industries put into keeping us dumbded down and sick enough to just continue to pay taxes, buy junk food and medication.....

Me? Then if I felt like that - nothing.
Nausea is the bodies way of getting rid of something nasty - quickly.
Even pure water could be enough to cause vomiting and I have experienced that so I would leave my stomach empty for as long as it takes to feel like eating again.
Retching on an almost empty stomach is no fun at all.
I assume that like me, under these circumstances, you wouldn't feel like eating?
If that is true, why force yourself to eat? Most of us could go weeks without eating and not suffer any long term damage so a day or two wouldn't hurt at all.
When I felt better, I might have some tepid water with a spot of salt and sugar so that it is easily absorbed and helps to avoid dehydration.
If that stayed down, I'd wait till I felt hungry and then start with plain soup of whatever I fancied.
You know, the way Grandma used to treat us.....
