Why would you think that? Is this what like the current regime wants us to belive? It seems that every little thing that goes wrong in this country, it's Taksin's fault..."Oh no, my grandmother died!!! - Well, YOU should thank Taksin for it.", "The cat felt off the tree and broke her paw - That Taksin, what a bastard, pushing a cat from a tree...what a character!!!"...
So true, i'm so sick of it. I wonder how long the scape-goating will last? I mean i expected it for the first couple of months... but come on it's time to move on.
I can't even pick up a newspaper anymore, as it seems like every article in there is pointing the finger at Taksin for something.
- Bombings
- Cracks in runways
- Any Corruption
- Crap exchange rate
- Not enough public toliets at the airport
- Southern Unrest
It seems the current administration (an all the newspapers that seem to be in their pocket) would have you believe that Taskin has now devoted 20 hours a day 7 days a week and all his billions solely to f**king Thailand?

I was shocked when i heard that during the Asean cup final 1st leg the Thai team had walked off the pitch and refused to play for 20mins because they didn't like the refs decision.
What shocks me even more is that instead of reading the Thai news this morning and seeing a public appology from the team, because of their terrible behavior, all i can see is justifications. Such as "It shouldn't have been a penalty", or "They just needed to calm down"? But no where can i find "Sorry we acted like pr*cks".
It seems like everyone thinks what they did was ok?
Imagine if the England team walked off the pitch after the Rooney red card in the WC, and refused to play for 20 minutes? We (Englishmen) would all be totally ashamed?

This sucks, my condo is near Don Muang, looks like i have to deal with the planes flying over head again.

Whats incorrect about a sign saying "Less than 10 items only"?
Makes sense to me?

My fav. is when you see T-shirts which typos or gramma errors. Which seems to be all too common here.
I mean it's one thing when you don't get the quick handwritten english sign proofed, but when you go to all the trouble of having a screen made and printing (probably) thousands of T-shirts you'd think they'd proof it.... i guess not though.
P.S.
(Assuming your first language is English or American.)Yes, very funny. Would you expect a perfect Thai-language message on an out-of-order telephone line in the UK or the US?
Oh, and while I'm at it, when you wrote ''I called my friends house this morning and got this recoreded message'', did you mean to say ''I called my friend's house this morning and got this recorded message''.
Give me a break. So your saying we should expect all signs/recordings/etc written in a language other than the country it is in to be wrong, or atleast shouldn't point out the fact that it's wrong?

My wife and I bought our condo about 6 months ago. We have just got around to thinking about switching her house paper, and getting a house paper for me. As i understand it, if you have a house paper saying that the property has been your primary residence for the last 2 (or 3?) years; when you sell it you pay alot less tax.
It gets interesting because the condo is 2 units, which have been made into 1. We bought it when it was already 1 unit, but it has 2 seperate deeds, one for each unit.
So i figured no problem, my wife will get a house paper saying she lives in unit A, and i get a house paper saying i live in unit B. Thus when we sell the condo we wont be paying taxes as if we never lived there.
However when my wife called the District Office about the house paper they said foreigners cannot have a house paper saying they owner a condo, but i could only be on my wifes paper as a resident of her condo, is this correct?
Ideas, suggestions?

My ATM card seems to charge me the offshore rate, anything i can do?

What a stupid question, though reading the threads in the finance section it appears there are many here who would rather see Thailand crash and burn so they can get an extra B10 for the dollar than see Thailand and her people prosper.
Personaly i think these people are lowlifes to live amongst the people and claim they like them and the country but secretly (or openly on the www) wanting the country to colapse.
SCUM.
An extra B10 to the dollar would be nice, am i a bad person?

Another cartoon paid for by the current administration to keep peoples focus on Taxsin?

Surely there are some people making a killing off this?

Baht dropped 2 points with 1 browser refresh.
After reading this thread i looked up the exchange on Yahoo, and it was like 35.8, however i noticed it odd that the ask price was only at 34.2, after refreshing the page the rate had suddenly dropped to 34
What a bummer.

This same page says under Prohibited occupations "Office or secretarial work", so am i to assume all Foreigners working in an Office at working illegally?
Also Prohibites "Legal or litigation services" but i'm sure there are many foreign laywers in Thailand (even on this board there are a few)?

The simplest thing to do would be to invoice the company direct and have some expenses, ie site trips to fix the bugs. whistling.gif
Just get your friend to take the client out to a "900,000 Baht" noodle dinner at said restaurant before he gets the money, and put it down as in the expenses.
Obviously if anyone other than the computer looked at it they may question why it cost 900,000 baht of a noodle dinner.
Obviously i'm also joking.

My (Thai) wife works with me, but is not American (doesnt have green card etc..) so doesnt have to file any return.
Is it ok to put down the money that i pay to her as an expense on the Schedule C?

So is there any other ways to reduce the Self-Employment Tax? (Aside from reducing your net income)
-
I have a fairly specific question about the Foreign Earn Income Exclusion:
Does the exclusion apply to the "Other Taxes" section of the 1040?
This section comes near the end of the form and includes the "Self Employment" tax field, which applies for me.
There doesn't seem to be any field to input your Foreign Earned Income Exclusion, so i'm not sure at which point this should be calculated into the equation?
Hoping there are a few other members how are in a similar position of being self-employed here.
If you don't know don't post please.

I've been searching high and low for a plastic office chair mat; the kind you use on carpet so the chair can still roll around and doesn't leave marks in the carpet.
Been to Index, homepro, office center and no one at any of these stores seems to have heard of stuck a thing? Any ideas?

Pantip Plaza, 100 baht each, requires mod chip though. Some of the discs they give you are a bit dodgy though as they are just burnt DVDs.

I hadn't heard this until i got here. But i still don't believe it. Because everything seems to be blamed on some kind of food here.
Anything that i like that my wife doesn't "causes cancer". According to her "Burnt toast causes Cancer".
As was talking to my Aunt in Law the other day and she said her son (10 years old) was having aching pains in his knees. She then proceeded to explain that it was because he eats too much KFC...
Then again i could just be on the safe side and restrict my diet to grass and tofu.
