Just got back from Saigon myself after not having been for about two years. The pace of development is indeed astonishing. It's now liveable from a Western Expat perspective imo but has lost most of its charm.

Losing nice sunglasses used to be my hobby when I spent each summer all over Europe partying. Ibiza was a particular taker of high end eye-wear.

Sometimes they've run out and once when they didn't hand them out at all I asked the CSD and he had never even heard of the fast track pass but when I asked he searched and found a huge stack of them.

I always have a few of these spare as don't always use them if normal queue is small. I often give them to friends and they have used them when flying economy in and outbound and also on different airlines to what is stamped on the cards. The immigration officers do not care. My boarding pass is digital on my phone and so never show that either.

I believe the weighing machines are only installed at the proper gate hold rooms - those that are connected to the aircraft via aero bridge.
I was there on the 2nd day but at the gates where buses would take us to the aircraft. No sign of weighing machines.
I was at gate 1 which is a bus to plane gate alongside gates 2-6 I think and they all had weighing machines there between each gate.

Do you do the same at immigration?- look I have a baby me first! Disgraceful behavior no wonder the queue is slow with people pushing in front.
This Tues eve at immigration at DMK the officer who stands behind the desks overseeing them all marched up one of the queues and pulled aside a family with a baby and a 3-4 yr old waiting. He took them to a desk back down the other end of the area and instructed the officer there to process them straight away.
So it works both ways!

Arrived at DMK on Tues eve this week, all the queues to the desks were right back to the other side of the terminal. The private"Taxi Service" desk back down the other end of the hall said 15 minutes wait and 750b. Walked up to departures and grabbed one straight away for 500b he pay tolls. Wasn't in the mood to argue as it was pissing it down with rain at the time and could see that the journey was going to take ages already.

I flew from DMK on the first day of the new rules. All heavy or large looking bags were being checked at the gate.

Went to SGN from DMK on April 1st with Air Asia. My holdall and smaller messenger bag were not checked but they had weighing scales by the gate at DMK and were checking any big cabin max type suitcases or other big heavy looking bags and any overweight were made to be put in the hold and charged. A monk with about 4-5 bags was told no way and also had to check most of them.
Coming back from SGN on Tuesday this week the screen was confirming again it was now 2 bags combined 7kg but they were not checking any.
I'd say at DMK you shouldn't risk it, they are def checking.

I find both Singha and Chang work pretty well.
Yes if all you want to do is get drunk then they're fine I guess.

This does sound familiar!
The white fridge/freezer in my apartment here in Bangkok failed last week. Reported it to the duty manager and an hour later maintenance were delivering me a new one. As they unpacked it I saw it was grey and wouldn't match the white oven, washer/dryer, cupboards etc. When I asked if they had a white one the answer was no, cannot get white anymore!
I thought this was a bit unlikely sounding but whatever, not costing me anything and I want my milk to be cold for my cereal in the morning so told them to go ahead.
Sounds like they were actually right about lack of white models now then.

Sounds like the first thing to do here is hang out in better areas.

I'm actually not into ladyboys, so I avoided Cockatoo when I went to Soi Cowboy to see the place for myself. I was under the impression that other clubs/bar on Soi Cowboy were ladyboy-free. When someone claims otherwise I obviously become curious. I also read elsewhere that Cockatoo is the only LB place on SC.
So if that is wrong I would like to know what other places have LBs on stage.
You're right, no other Cowboy gogo's have LB's as dancers or coyotes.

If you're looking for a Thai hairdresser whose English is so fluent and perfect you'll swear you're speaking with a farang, then check Pam Anderson's salon (unisex) out:
This looked good and the website lists services I want. I mailed them and they said no we don't do that. So fail from the start, very poor.

Peter Jaggs was written a couple of good books about this.

Bangkok already turns out all the big building lights very early now. 9 - 10pm and all the external/decorative lights on buildings across the city are mostly turned off now. They used to stay on until at least midnight but have been going off earlier and earlier for a few years now.

I recognise about half of that lot from the street.
They are truly homeless, not like the woman and "their" children deposited at over passes every day.
Never seen any of this lot begging or annoying people. They're also not the one's who try to clean car windscreens.
A harmless bunch from what I've seen.

Very amusing that it's ABB they're using to get the robots. ABB is a company long mired in fraud, corruption, graft, kickbacks, all around the world.
I'm sure they got the contract here in Thailand in a completely transparent and correct manner though :)

Yep, FF's are upgraded first, the higher FF status you get the more you'll get upgraded.

It's reopened further down Soi11 just past the President.
Decent steaks more like 2000-3000 for a good size, more if you want Wagyu. Meal for two with starters as well and with bottle of good wine i'd say 8-10k.

BBC global audience in 2016 (it's measured in April/May so no figures this year yet) was 348 Million, an increase year on year from 2015 of 13% and it set to exceed 500 Million by 2022.
BBC World Service Radio has an audience of 66 Million and the service is currently undergoing it's biggest expansion since the 1940's.
Overall one in 16 adults on the planet listen to BBC news.
So, yeah, the transmission tower will be moved i'd say.

"New" taxi queuing system at Don Mueang airport

I couldn't find any there now a Cpl weeks ago. There is a separate "Taxi" counter but it's not advertised as a limo service and they weren't very helpful. No AOT limo service like at BKK. Booking a service in advance to meet you would seem to be best for you.
